- Q: How do you reupholster a sofa?
- You need to dissemble the Sofa, take off arms etc., and then you can unstaple and unpick the existing upholstery to use as a pattern. Remember when choosing a fabric make sure it is an upholstery fabric and take into account the way the patterns run. I re-upholstered mine with excellent results, but it's no 5 minute job and you have to re-assemble it after you have recovered it. Good Luck.

- Q: I dog-sat a friend's dog for three days and while the old girl was asleep on my sofa, her bladder released her urine onto one of my sofa cushions. My hound dog used to sleep on that sofa all the time, now she won't go anywhere near the sofa and I've tried all of the dog cleaners and all of the deodorizers! Does anyone have a homemade remedy? - The problem is not so much the urine in the seat cover, but most likely it soaked through into the foam underneath. If the cushions are removable from the sofa there should be a zipper on the back of the seat cover. This will allow you to remove the foam insert inside. Take that out, measure it and call some local upholstery shops and get a quote on one of them cutting you a new foam core that you can insert back into the casing once you've thoroughly cleaned said casing. That is the only way you will truly eliminate the problem. If the casing is NOT removable and you have an attached seat then it gets more complicated and you will have to call out an upholsterer to come out and see how difficult it would be to replace the foam insert. - If you have a dog that big you can't sacrifice quality. That dog will be moving around on that sofa and it needs to be strong. Preferably made of a hardwood frame with double bolted joints. The material should be hard leather all the way. That dog will otherwise dirty it and tear it apart. Because you need leather, I am sorry it will probably not be cheap. However, You can buy a used sofa on Craig's List. Like very cheap leather sofas! Adding an area rug on the floor will keep your home cleaner still.

- The football pump is higher pressure (relatively) and lower volume than what you need for your little sofa. A football requires 9 or 10 psi while I would guess you need 3 or 4 psi in the sofa. Plus the needle likely will not fit the fill holes in the sofa. A larger volume pump such as used to inflate rubber boats or camp gear would be faster and easier, and they come with a variety of different sized nozzles.
