- I've purchased several sofas and sectionals from Z Gallerie (they carry a variety of brands) and I've always had great luck with them. You might want to check them out. Their prices are fairly reasonably for the quality and they tend to last longer than most which gives you greater value in the long run. In general, avoid sofas and sectionals that have sewn-in cushions. Since you cannot flip and rotate the cushions you cannot maximize their life. How often does anyone actually sit in the middle of the sofa, right? A good salesperson will be willing to unzip the cushions and show you the construction going on inside. I recommend foam cushions that are wrapped in a blanket of down for more comfort and loft; also the down blanket can be [somewhat] fluffed.
- Q: I live at home with my parents and we are getting new sofas for the first time in a long while. The old ones have a detailed floral pattern which I find very ugly and outdated, but my parents don't mind it. - OH JEFF GREAT NEWS....they no longer make those ugly floral prints on couches...lol i would encourage more earth tones like a nice tan...it works with anything if those curtains have been hanging for more than 10 years they need to go to the piano would look great on a nice area carpet...you could go an accent color and carry it though the room...like black or burgundy...throw carpet...and pillows on couch and accent pieces candels on coffee table... i would go to bed bath and beyond...in the beyond section they have new couch covers...for the floral couch...so it can become modern and be solid...i hope your parents plan to get rid of it... if the room hasn't been painted in 10 year you should offer to freshen it up....light tan walls...white ceiling and white baseboards...dark tan couch...area carpet..in front of couch with coffee table in center...would look great... an area carpet...makes the space look more homey...you do not need 2...either one under the edge of the couch with the coffee table in the center or one under the piano also do they play the paino...if not it need to be sold to create more space you need modern...candels...to accent to... happy decorating *(*
- Q: How to remove black permanent marker stain from sofa, anyone?
- You didn't say what kind of sofa. I had this happen on a leather lounge so in my case I got a damp cloth and rubbed until it got lighter and lighter and wasn't noticable anymore.It took ages and i was worried it would ruin the lounge but it was okay. Also, in regards to the first answer I can see her point that permanent means permanent but if you think about it further, you can also get permanent marker on your skin but it eventually washes off right? Otherwise when someone wanted a tattoo they would just use a permanent marker rather than a needle with ink. It is just called permanent because there are also white board markers which can be wiped off. Also, if the sofa is material then you could call a cleaning company and find out what the chances are of that coming off and how much they charge. Or a cheaper option could be a cleaning product available out there in the supermarket, like a carpet cleaner. Some actually can be used for sofas as well if you read the back. Or call a furniture store and ask them about it and see if they sell any special products.
- Q: I am decorating the sitting room in my new house and I am looking for some advice on sofa colours I am putting down a French oak floor, the room is fairly big so I was going to buy an extra large sofa and a large sofa, the colors available are beige, caramel, Berry red, and chocolate brown The walls are similar in colour to magnolia. - Personally I think the caramel would look great with your flooring and magnolia walls, very rich and comfortable too, plus it won't show pet dirt as quickly as the other choices. Pull your magnolia in with pillows, window treatments, an area rug and/or a side chair in bolder fabrics to make the whole room look custom made to your taste. When picking accent fabrics, choice 3 with similar colors with each a different size pattern, one small, one medium and one large print. That way, they coordinate the colors you are using together but don't compete with each other. I'd do both sofas the same color. Also, going with a neutral on your large pieces makes them versatile if you decide you want to change the rooms color later on. I'd play around with the fireplace color, since walls are rather bold, a light neutral could really make the fireplace pop! Good luck and have fun with it!

- Yep - I had a Flexsteel sofa from the 70's. I just got rid of it about 4 years ago - not because it went to hell, but the color was just so out of style and I couldn't stand looking at it anymore! (gold and green) Flexsteel is not the top of the line, but I have to admit - It went through 2 kids and 6 pets and it lasted.
