- If the covers can unzip and come off from the cushions, you could throw them in the wash and wash them as usual The spray that I would recommend would be Wool lite or Resolve for carpet and upholstery
- Q: I bought an ikea Ektorp sofa two years ago.In the first year itself, I noticed feather leaking out of the sofas, it seems Ikea uses feathers in their cushions.Anyway when I was about to wash, I removed the slipcovers and there was just so much feathers that have leaked out. Also after washing the color of the slipcovers faded.I should have returned the sofa in the first year as they have a three year guarantee but I was busy and all. I can still return since my 3 years is not up so I would like to ask has anyone returned ikea sofas due to the quality. Did Ikea take it back after you complained, any problems returning the sofa? Has anyone complained but Ikea decided not to take the sofa back?Any advice what I should do about the sofa? It is such a waste, the sofa is still comfortable just a hassle when cleaning as there are a lot of feathers leaking out, eventually I think this will cause the cushions to sag/sink. Also the color has faded in just 2 short years.I guess I expected better quality from ikea.
- The Ektorp sofa has an awful reputation. I almost bought one last year but I did some research first and I'm glad I did! All the problems you've experienced are the similar to the stories I read. Apparently, the covers are well known for fading. I would try to take it back and get a refund or at least a replacement sofa. Good luck.

- I don't know about the sofas, but I own a Lane recliner - we've had it for 6 years now and it still looks and feels new. The cushions are all still firm and the padded arms are still fluffy - not all floppy like the cheap ones get after awhile. Oh - and it gets MAJOR use too - it's not just sitting in a room looking pretty. I haven't heard real great or bad things about La-z-boy (other than they're overpriced), but I'd buy a sofa from Lane in a heartbeat, but that's just my opinion. Good luck!

- Q: Okay, I've had the same ugly couch for like 9 years. It has a sharp thing sticking out the back and it's getting really springy now. I looked in a bigger town but didn't see anything I liked. It's about 140.00 dollars difference at the store where I can get it. Which one do you think is better? I'm really leaning toward the Ella Spice one. I don't want to get the other one just because it's cheaper and then regret it. I do like it though. Just not as much as the other. - You need to retrain him. Everytime he gets on the sofa, order him off. If he refuses to budge, hold him by the collar and say off. Be calm and use a firm authorative voice, be consistant. He will soon learn that his place is on the floor. If you see him going for the sofa a firm Hey Off should do it. It is always better to correct before he actually gets up on the couch. It's not hard to train your dog, it just takes consistancy. I have taught many dogs, who have been on the furniture for years. to stay off. You can break habits and teach old dogs new tricks. Using aluminum foil or runners is not training. You want your dog to listen, to obey, to respect. Although I would use these tools when not home, I would use basic training to correct this behavior. Who wants to keep this stuff on the couch all the time? Where would you sit, it would render your sofa unusable and you would have to continually take it off and then put it back on.
