- I had a sofa from Ikea and it hold up good for a couple of year if you don't have any kids or wild beast scratching it all up. I don't really like it since its construction is not the best. It may look good but wont last long. I want a sofa that cost 400-500 to last 6 year but what can you do. It's decent sofa but I rather send a little extra at some other place to get a better quality one.

Fine metallic threads are a wonderful addition to upholstery fabric but, velvet is my favorite for chairs. A floral with metallic threads is great on a sofa, or velvet. I love velvet. But it should be upholstery quality - more durable than something you would wear. Microfiber is paper thin and cheap. Cheap, cheap and more cheap. Not suitable for upholstery.

I have an idea to create a sectional sofa/daybed by using two twin bed sets minus the frames and placing them in an L-shape with lots of pillows on top. I have my eye on two Wolf Slumber Express mattresses from Walmart that reviewers say are extremely firm. I'm thinking of just placing two twin mattresses on top of each other, thereby getting some sinking action like on a real sofa instead of putting them on a wooden foundation by themselves. Does anyone have any idea what happens when you put two mattresses on top of each other - do they slip off of each other or do they pretty much stay in position?
- Your better off using the foundation underneath, which is specifically designed to supply the mattress with support. Keep in mind that mattresses and sofa's are designed for their intended purpose, so substituting one for the other isn't likely to be effective long-term. Mattresses are designed to absorb the weight of the individual spread over the entire surface area of the mattress, placing your entire weight on a few springs will result in them breaking down quickly. Using a second mattress will only expedite the wear and tear even more.
