Q:All water pump have diferent caracteristics, but it is imposible to overcome a certain hight...what is that hight and why?: It depends on the pump characteristics. It has its suction and discharge head limitations.

Q:I have a leak and all the hoses are fine but I am not sure were the water pump is also has anyone had this repaired and what did it cost (part plus labor) in general is it hard to get to? Q:i am not sure whether the water pump is bad or how much water should come out of exhaust.: It may not be your water pump at all. It could be a blown head gasket or a cracked block. Do you drive it very much? If you do and it doesn't totally overheat, it isn't your water pump. Water pumps usually tend to make a lot of noise when they go bad. Depending on the temperature of the air where you live, I would say don't worry too much about white clouds coming out of your exhaust. You do notice I said white? Condensation in an exhaust pipe is normal. Check the little stuff first. Check your thermostat and radiator cap first. Those are inexpensive. Have your radiator checked at the local Mom and Pop radiator shop where they will also check your hoses and engine oil, to see if it looks like mud. That will tell you if you have a cracked block. Total overheating can be a blown head gasket which is expensive because of labor. The parts cost is minimal, it is just a total b i t c h because you have to get the whole top of the motor off. Have your freeze plugs checked too and if they are plastic, have them replaced with brass ones. It is a very old vehicle and you are going to be looking at some money to fix things. I hope I helped, although you didn't tell me the name of the vehicle. That would help a bit more and if you know it is the water pump, go get a new one!!!!!!! Q:2005 pontiac grand prix 3.8 v6There is a scratching type of noise when i start the car. Looked under the hood and it seemed to be coming from the serpentine belt.Took the belt off and and checked the pulleys for any play and turned out the water pump pulley wobbles back and forth too much. Replaced the belt with a new one and want to replace the pulley. It does not seem to have a loose screw so i'm wondering if i can take the pulley itself off and replace it, or would i have to replace the pump too? Still makes the noise with new belt and you can see the pulley wobble a bit when the car is running.: You need to replace the pump itself. The wobble you feel is the bearings in the water pump that are bad. Good luck and hope this helps.

Q:I think my water pump has crapped out on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. I have been leaking coolant for a few days now and there is a puddle under my Jeep after I turn it off and my reserve tank keeps emptying out on me. I replaced the lower radiator hose and still the same problem. It is not over heating so I am wondering if it IS a water pump problem? If it is, could I do the work myself?: Special tools? What? They are real easy to do. You need only a 1/2 wrench, 5/8 socket, 9/16 socket, 8mm and 15mm. Remove belt (15mm to loosen tensioner pulley, then to loosen adjuster). Remove electric cooling fan (2 8mm bolts at top). Use 1/2 wrench to remove 4 nuts on viscous fan and remove fan. Remove water pump pulley (4 1/2 bolts). Remove hoses from water pump. Remove 2 5/8 bolts that secure water pump to P/S bracket. Remove 4 remaining 9/16 bolts holding water pump to block. Remove water pump. Installation is reverse. No special tools required. I've done hundreds of them and can do one in about 1.5 hours.

Q:Okay, the fan has the clutch unit on the front with the large nut attaching it to the water pump. Then 4 screws attach the pulley to the water pump as well. What's the best way to immobilize pulley/pump so I can get the fan blade clutch nut unscrewed? Can't hold onto the fan or clutch unit since it simply spins. Q:does anyone know the proper way to take the lower gearcase off and install a new water pump kit. it is a 1986.: This is a simple repair but I'd recommend that you get a service manual, ether a factory manual or one of the generic Seloc manuals. The key things to do are mark the trim tab so you can put it back in the same position after repairs. Drain the oil. Removing the bolt that is in the hole at the back end of the upper housing, as well as all the obvious Nuts. both above and under the cavitation plate. Put the drive in forward gear, which takes the tension off the shift shaft. Once all the nuts and bolt are loose. Jiggle the drive and it will separate from the upper housing. You now have access to the water pump housing. Remove the housing and pull it up and off the d. Shaft. Inspect fully and account for missing impeller blades. When you re assemble Lube the impeller and put the drive key in place and put the impeller in place. Slide the housing down to the impeller. You can use ether th drive shaft or the propeller to turn the drive shaft in a clockwise direction as you apply pressure on the housing, It should slide down over the impeller. Reassemble in reverse order. Slide the drive shaft up into the upper housing turning the D. shaft using the prop to turn the shaft. Watch the water tube slip into the guide tube. Once it's in place put a couple nuts on then check the gear shift to make sure it goes F-N-R. Bolt up and fill with oil. Good Luck!
