- Q: An internal combustion engine runs more efficiently at constant speed. If it was run to charge the batteries when needed, via a generator, it seems to me it would be much more efficient than today's dual mode hybrids. This is essentially what diesel-electric locomotives do, and they get much better gas mileage than cars.
- Truly it has to do with type of fuel to create energy. So using whatever type of fuel you want to create a specific amount of energy, say to move a vehicle, you end up not considering the type of fuel but the cost of fuel. Seriously, if gas was a couple of cents a gallon who would care about alternate fuels. So as a race we seem to be more satisfied to leave our ability to travel around, not only our countries but also our planet, to the money Barons rather than placing our fuel needs in the hands of our Governments where our tax dollars could be efficiently used to develop human efficient fuels that are FREE. Sunlight comes to mind, seriously how hard can it be with our technology today to develop ways of utilizing this never ending source of vast power. Then there is water made up of H2O and yet we are all aware of how much energy we get from splitting an atom, dah! So how about splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen and utilizing that energy and God hasn't hinted he/she/gay/partner/bi/lesbian etc ( to make sure I am politically correct here, will be stopping the rain anytime soon. Oh rain and sunlight are FREE, hmm, I wonder, is there someone not wanting us all to have free energy. WHY would that be possible?
- Q: I built my own, verry successfull HHO gas generator and I want to inject the gas being produced, strait into my car engine but the flame keeps going back into my hose, i have going strait into the air intake carb, and blowing up my generator! I built a little flashback arrestor with gas piping filled with aquarium airstones and that obviously didn't work. Where can i buy a professional industrial flashback arrestor so I don't have to make my own?
- Sorry you can't!
- Q: I am trying to settle a estate for a friend and there are 2 small generators to start
- A generator works using 3 components: an engine(gas, diesel, or LP-gas powered), the generator, and the control unit. The engine runs at a preset RPM to spin an armature inside a magnetic field, thereby producing an AC current. The AC current is then sent through the control panel/curcuit breaker box, where it is regulated and then finally used to power the house, boat, or whatever it is used to power. The actual worth of the two generators varies on what kind of fuel they run on, the engine size, the wattage, and hours of usage.
- Q: I need a specification of the inverter and battery that will work for 5-6 hours with around 10-14 laptops connected to it. Can any one please help me.
- You would need to be more specific. Multiply the watts of one laptop power supply by 14, then get a more powerful invertor. e.g. 14 x 50 watt laptops 700 watts, get at least a 1 Kw invertor. It is difficult to predict how long a particular battery will power an invertor, a 1 Kilowatt load will draw a huge current, about 50 amps from a 12 volt battery. If at all possible you would be better off using a petrol or diesel generator and extension leads, as the size of battery needed would be enormous, you would need a no. of 12 volt large 12 volt batteries joined together, or one battery and one x 100 watt invertor for each laptop. You might also consider using a battery to power a DC to DC convertor for each laptop. For example one laptop could use a 12 volt, 50 AH battery and a 12 to 20 volt convertor, this will probably run a 50 watt laptop for 6 hours. I say probably because the only way to know for sure is to try it out. For the price of 14 batteries and 14 convertors you can probably buy a really good silent 1 kw petrol generator. This will be smaller, lighter and probably safer than 14 x 50 AH batteries.
- Q: I am thinking about installing solar panels on my roof and I am just wondering if it will be possible to completely get my house off the grid. I live in the state of Missouri. I am thinking to buy a house in Florida also and I want to install solar panels on that house if I ever buy it. How many KW will it take lets say for an average 3-4 BDRM?
- you might consider going of the grit including geothermal cooling maybe heating (we have heating) since it gets warm there sometimes (so i hear) - this will bring your electric use up again, we doubled ours to ~1400 kwh/month or better depending on the weather, cooling uses less energy with geothermal. regarding solar, keep an eye on solar pv and new developments in the near future
- Q: i have a 7.5 onam diesel generator that runs for 15 min and shuts down i get a code 33 (overheating)I change coolant, cap and thermostat also checked air flow Still no luck.any ideas anyone
- This may sound stupid, but check the belt. Make sure it's actually on there. The Onan QD's sometimes throw a belt. I have seen them break too. Make sure that's on. You may have an internal water pump issue as well - impeller fell off, etc (rare but possible). Another issue could be a blocked radiator. If your radiator is blocked with sludge, you may not even know. I usually check various spots on the block, thermostat housing and radiator while running with a infrared temperature probe to see if it's actually getting hot BUT BE CAREFUL doing that because there's a risk of damaging your unit. That's actually a last resort thing. It may just be a bad high temp switch. But make sure everything else is right first. Full radiator, belt, t-stat (you already did). Oh, I just thought - make sure you have the right temp t-stat in there. The one I have in the shop (1997 7.5 Kw HDKAJ Spec D) takes a 71 Degree C (160 degree F) one. Anything higher will set off the high temp system I believe.
- Q: There are several ways to start the diesel generator set?
- will be cut to the automatic control switch (AUTO), and with automatic switching power switch (ATS) control switch shall be placed in automatic position, when the electricity stopped,
- Q: i need three ways to save the amazon rainforest and explain how they will work? thanks
- Buy 100% post consumer waste paper. 18.8% of greenhouse gas emmisions come from deforestation and the paper industry. Also, don't support McDonald's. They cut down the amazon rainforest to house the cows for their meat. Think about how many cows a day that die for McDonald's. That number needs to live somewhere before it dies. Not to mention the amount of methane that's released from the cows.
- Q: hiam in the process of purchasing a flat.under the electrical specifications, the builder has specifid the following. please explain me what does it mean by3 phase power supply with automatic change over switch and what does it mean by RMU Transformer with Advanced Features
- This electrical specification describes some aspects of the electrical distribution system for a block of flats (apartment building in USA terms). A 3 phase power supply is 3 live wires and a neutral with 400 volts or so between any two live wires and 230 volts or so between any live wire and the neutral. Each flat would be connected to one live wire and neutral. A change over switch is a switch that can switch the load from one power source to another. It could switch between two mains connections from the power company or it could switch between the power company mains and a standby diesel generator set. An RMU transformer is a ring main unit transformer. The transformer would be the step down or substation transformer from the transmission line voltage to the 400 volt level. There would probably be one transformer for all of the flats, possibly two if there are two mains connections from the power company. The RMU designation indicates that the transformer includes additional components such as the change over switch and main circuit breaker as a single piece of equipment. Advanced features might include such things as transformer temperature monitoring, load monitoring, and remote indication provisions. Unless the features are enumerated, it isn't a particularly useful description. It may or may not include features in addition to the minimum required by government regulations. If you are purchasing only an individual flat, this might offer some assurance that the electrical system is modern and reliable, but it is a very poor description to offer prospective purchasers of individual flats.
- Q: Does anyone currently live off grid?If so, what type of alternate power system(s) are you using?Solar? ---(I think very expensive and in this part of the country, not enough sun.)Hydro-electric? ---(may be a viable choice if I have enough current running through my stream and or enough head from a waterfall)Wind? --- (If It is installed high enough and does not obscure.)Diesel Generator---(may be ok if underground, low speed, water cooled)We are planning to build a log home in up-state Pa. as a second home for now, but our primary residence in a few years. Thanks in advance for your answers!Newt
- i don't know about your possibilities where you are but i would definitely suggest using as much natural lighting as possible and the alternate wood heating furnaces available
