- Q: If you‘re riding in 5th or 6th at high speeds and you let off the throttle completely, letting the speed of the bike drop without braking/holding in the clutch;-Will the bike even stall out, or will it drop to a certain speed and maintain it with no throttle?-Given that you don‘t pull the clutch in, will the rear tire lock up if the bike stalls while in gear?
- It will vary due to the type of bike and the road. The first one, where the bike is off throttle, most bikes will not be able to maintain any headway at idle, though some high torque engines (such as big V-twins) may be able to idle along. A down-hill grade would allow almost any bike to idle along in top gear. If the engine does stall, the bike will certainly come to a quick stop, though the tire may not break traction. If you have a slipper clutch, it won't lock up. All in all, this is a good way to dump your bike. Why the question?
- Q: I have a bad a** bike and all the gear but these dam strips are killing me. How can I wear the unused section of tire without risking wrecking my sweet machine?
- Take your motorcycle to a racetrack for a track day and you will lean it over further than ever before in a relatively safe environment. If you are worried about your pristine bodywork, take it off and run it naked.
- Q: I have a buell xb12r so its got tons of torque and the front end does come up quite often. But i do not do the twisties and bends. so side grip is not really a problem. What tire is better a Pirelli Diablo Strada, Metzeler roadtech z6 or bridgestone battlax. I want a sport touring tire because i drive this bike every where, probably 700miles a month!size is 180/55 zr17
- Wear i come from 700 miles a month is low mileage. you might think about trying Bridgestone BT-021 they are two different rubber compounds so they can deliver long wear for up right riding and grip for aggressive cornering or a set of Michelins duel compounds I use the Michelines on my SV1000s and am very happy with them
- Q: I am looking to buy my first bike. I am trying to find one that has fat tires. I am looking for a sport touring, standard, touring bike, or a sport that is comfortable to sit on for long distance and can sit upright. Thanks
- The best way to avoid buying the wrong bike for you is to rent a bike for a day or two and compare several bikes to make sure you will be getting the bike that's right for you. My suggestion is to look for motorcycle rental companies in your area. At the yahoo search box type in motorcycle rental (your city) and find local motorcycle rental companies. Then call several companies to check out their inventory to see if they have any of the bikes you are interested in buying. I own a motorcycle rental company in San Francisco. We have most of the sport touring bikes on the market including a BMW R1200 RT, Honda ST1300, Yamaha FJR1300 and a Kawasaki Concours to name a few.
- Q: Motorcycle tires 4PR what does it mean
- Motorcycle 4PR tire refers to the number of layers of fiber 4, that is, the more layers the greater the load resistance, the thicker the tire. General front wheel with 4PR, rear wheel with 6PR.
- Q: I‘ve heard that Tire balloon sizes drastically effect fuel consumption on vehicles (motorcycles), that means if i increase the balloon size on my bikes tires, there will be a huge change of fuel consumption, something like, previously it did 45 Kilometers per liter and after going one balloon size up, it has gone down to something like 30 - 35 KM-PL. Can this happen? is it true? How big is the difference? Previously i thought it effects only 1 to 2KM max, something like taking off the baffles. Please en-light me with your wisdomMany blessings
- Changing tire size can change milage, but minimally, and I mean on a bike, it would be hard to measure. You'd lose more MPG by running low pressure.
- Q: Stored with battery. Empty gas tank. Tires not cracked, but probably no longer soft - ie, gripping issues.
- Rust in the tank. Carb(s) will need cleaning/rebuilding if any fuel was in them. Replace the fuel filter. Tires are junk (all motorcycle tires should be changed after 5 years, especially if not used). Possibly ALL rubber is junk: check carb boots for sure. Battery is junk. If it leaked there will be severe rust underneath it Check for nests/animals in the airbox (not a joke) and exhaust. The muffler(s) may be rusted out. Inspect the air filter. Before trying to start the motor, I would first remove the sparkplugs and squirt a small amount of WD40 (or similar) into each cylinder. Then I would try to turn over the motor gently (turn rear wheel with transmission in gear) before replacing the plugs. This will show that the engine is not seized by rust, or will break it free with the least possible damage--hopefully none. Brakes may be seized. Brake fluid attracts moisture, and must be replaced. Both brake systems are very likely to require complete rebuilds if they are hydraulic. It would probably be wise to replace all cables (throttle, clutch, brake and clutch, if any) Everything may need cleaning and lube: chain, swingarm wheel bearings, controls, footpeg pivots, any cables you don't replace. Change oil filter immediately, and after first 1,000km. Before riding, check ALL controls, lights and horn. Make sure that centre/sidestands retract and stay out of the way.
- Q: I just put new tires on my bike and probably put 200miles on them already. It winter now and I‘m putting it away and want to have them ready for the spring. They still are slick on the edges and I‘ve heard the best way is to ride them but is there a way I. Can speed it up by rubbing something on it?
- I never have had to store over winter but for fast new tire break-in I cut off all the teats first than reverse spin the wheel while applying #30 grit sandpaper to the tires. I hold the paper all the way down to the margin on the sidewall and spin the tire with a friction cylinder on a drill motor. Bob A's method is great too.
