- Q: what else does motorcycle servicing include? Thanks guys
- Depends where you are, and who you use. In the UK some dealerships will not bother to check tyre pressure.
- Q: Hello I just recently bought a Ninja 250R from a dealer, and before I had bought the bike the dealer told me it was in excellent condition and has been checked. How ever about 3 weeks later I noticed my tires have cracks all around the sides near the rims. (Both tires) The cracks go all around the tires. Now my dad told me that its fine and I don‘t need to change the tire however I was told that the tire can blow out at any time causing me to crash and possibly die over a stupidity! So my question is, do they need to be changed? Is my dad right? And if they do need to be changed, the motorcycle has a warranty by the dealer and store of 6 months, does this mean I can get the tires changed for free? Because I just bought the bike :( Thanks.
- Id be surprised if the warranty cover tires, but you CAN ask. Go online and get some new tires. Dry rot can cause failure at anytime. Chances are you will have low tire pressure problems rather than a blow out, BUT WE ARE NOT IN THE BUISNESS OF TAKING CHANCES .
- Q: I want to support my local shop, but I can get a great Pirelli tire on Ebay way cheaper. Would that be insulting to the shop if I brought my own tire in for installation?
- Get the OKorder tire and have a local guy install it for you, unless you have extra money you wish to flush away. If the shop gets insulted then go to another shop, I have been buying motorcycle tires from OKorder for my bike and both sons' bikes for years, I have saved a LOT of $$ that way. Standard price around here if you remove the wheel and take it in is $25.00 to mount and balance, you will save $75.00 to $100.00 over the cost of a dealer just for taking off the wheel and taking it in. If you're going to call yourself a rider, you should be able to do a bit of minimal wrenching. Good luck and have fun!!!
- Q: So I just knocked off the last of my 100 pound weight loss. I am currently in awesome shape which as you can tell is drastically different than how I‘ve lived my life.Being 100 pounds overweight has made me miss out on things I‘ve wanted to do. So I‘ve started a list. On that list is to learn how to ride a motorcycle. I‘ve always loved bikes and I really want to learn how to ride one.I‘m most attracted to the ninja bikes. I‘m 5‘8 and 20 years old. What‘s a good starting ninja bike? What‘s the cost like? How difficult is learning to ride? Are lessons required? Do you need a motorcycle license apart from a car license? How much is insurance usually? Basically tell me everything and anything. Thanks!
- yea congrats on losing that weight. I would first go get the permit for the motorcycle and then take the safety/training course. most of the courses will have bikes that you can ride while in class. I wouldnt run out and buy any bike yet until you see if you would even enjoy riding. But whatever you do be careful out there cause people dont see motorcycles on the road
- Q: Could you let me know the size of the tire and what brand is recommended.
- You really don't want to install any car tire as most expect for skinny spare tires are usually too flat on the tread and that will interfere with the handling in the corners.
- Q: How would a motorcycle ride in a horizontal circle?
- There are circus acts in which the motorcycle is being ridden around a horizontal ring. You might think that that's the equivalent of your diagram with a theta of 90 degrees. But what actually happens is that the motorcycle is not pointing at the center of the ring, but at a point slightly above the center of the ring. That has to be done to provide the upward force required to counteract the weight of the motorcycle and rider. The faster the motorcycle goes, the smaller this above the center angle needs to be. In your diagram, you're actually ignoring the weight of the motorcycle and rider. If that was being taken into account, that line from the point of contact through the rider would not be pointing at the center of the sphere, it would be pointing just above the center of the sphere.
- Q: Hi i went over pothole the other day and it caused a hole on the side of my front tyre (picture attached), and it was losing air fast so i took it to a motorcycle repair store and they recommended me some sort of tyre filler where they take off the tyre and put some sort of tyre filler on the inside of the tyre. they told me it could last a month or two depending on how much i ride so i went for it, does anyone have any idea what they‘re called and how long they last? I do plan to get a new front tyre soon but am curious about this filler they put inside.
- Nothing will fix a sidewall. There are various fillers like Goop and Slime and lots of others, they work around a nail or screw in the face of a tyre but they do not repair a hole that large and never in the sidewall. Riding a bike with a tyre in that condition is asking for an accident. You can also plug tyres with a plastic/rubber mushroom (again not in a sidewall). Get the new tyre now, do not ride on that.
- Q: What‘s happening when motorcycle one of tyres suddenly explodes due to riding process? Can it even happen or do motorcycle tyres are so hard differently from cars‘ not to explode? Yesterday I just thought about situations when you riding too fast to see any edged barrier and ride on it? Will rider fall from motorcycle then or continue riding, just tyre will slowly release it‘s air? Or it explodes loudly and splashes?
- Motorcycle tires are structured differently than car tires. and care procedures along with tire technology should minimize the risk (as well as riding technique and procedure). However, it is possible that you have a complete tire blow out. In that case, there are procedures to follow to ensure that you bring the bike to a safe stop without crashing. If a front tire explodes, you shift your weight towards the back. If a rear tire blows, you stay seated as you are. In either case, you should straighten the bike and keep a firm grip on the handlebars. Apply brake pressure to the wheel without the blown tire (but not too much, as locking the tire would most likely cause a crash. remember, you're already at a loss of traction). You'd be surprised how much control you still have on a motorcycle even with a blown tire.
- Q: I was doing some looking online and I saw non pneumatic tires for passenger vehicles. I can‘t however find any non pneumatic tires for motorcycles. I am mainly interested in the non pneumatic tires that can be found on youtube where the basic construction is the wheel treadband and spokes. It‘s also refered to as the tweel. Anyway I can see alot of demand and applications for non pneumatic tires available for motorcycles.
- No you can't put an ABS Axel on a non ABS vehicle, you would have t get ABS installed in your car. The best thing I could recommend is if you can't find it in Britain, you can have it imported from Japan. Hope this helps! xx
