- Q: I know motorcycles in general are not necessarily safe, but I‘m planning on getting my first bike and want to know the pro‘s and cons of each? Would a bike like a Kawasaki Ninja 250r be safe enough or a louder cruiser type bike like a Honda Rebel? Also, do skinny rear tires like on the 2008 Ninja 250r make a huge difference in terms of traction and such?
- First, motorcycles in general are very safe. It's usually the rider who is not. Second a cruiser type is NOT louder than a sport type. They both have to meet the same noise levels. It's only after they leave the dealer that the noise changes. And sport types change their mufflers as well. Tires can and do make a difference. Many times, wider is not better. Narrow tires are a little quicker in the turns. The weight they carry is more concentrated, instead of spread out. This is one reason that traction is at least the same, if not better. OK, arguments and such aside: You have listed two cycles that are pretty much opposite in style, seating, and handling. This leads me to believe that (no offense) you don't really know what you want yet. I would suggest taking a learner's course such as the one offered by the MSF. They provide a bike in the 250cc range for the class. You will get the opportunity to talk to people who actually ride. At the end, you will have a much better idea of what really suits YOU. And that's what it's all about. YOU. nobody else is going to be stuck with your decision.
- Q: I just bought a new rear rim for my motorcycle, but am unsure on the right size of tire to put on it. I want to go with a 140/70. Would this tire size work well? If not, any suggestions? Thanks!
- 3.5 x 25 87.5mm or about a 90/90-18
- Q: It‘s an 06‘ Yamaha R6
- Depends on the brand and model of tire, how much you weigh and the riding you do, and what you want ie: more traction or longer wear. The print on the side of the tire is max inflation, probably not to conducive to good handling although the tires may last a bit longer.
- Q: My Rear tire is brand new but my front tire is very old and I just noticed I have a split on the side near the rim and also one in the middle the one near the rim is deeper than the other ones but you can not see anything inside. Is this dangerous to ride like this. I am getting a new tire Next week but I need to ride the highway to get to the shop for the new tire. Help what do you think
- It might be, it has higher chances of bursting.
- Q: what is to consider before buying a motorcycle tire?
- what your local shop stocks!
- Q: It‘s a chrome Schrader *.
- The local auto parts store sells them for 10 cents. Now, if it was from Casey Stoners bike AND was autographed AND was from Phillip Island last October, then I would give you $10 for it.
- Q: For a 2010 Triumph America front tire.
- no thats just dangerous and stupid
- Q: how do I find motorcycle tires country of origin?
- The country of origin is embossed / labeled on the tyre itself. Pending on region, there are a few country of origin for the same make. Eg. Dunlop - Japan, Malaysia, Thailand. Metzeller - Brazil , France. Michellin - France, Japan Bridgestone - USA, Japan, Pirelli - USA, Italy Euro Rubber - Thailand Tyres are printed with the following info, Make, Model, Size, Profile, DIrection of rotatation (or tyre position), country of make, and tyre type eg tube / tubeless. these are the standard specification for all tyre manufacturers to follow. Its usually on the sidewall of the tyre, right after the 'direction arrow'. Quite small though, about a 4mm in height. P.S - the country of origin in not essential, perhaps only for costing. You should worry more about the compound / profile. Cheers. R1 Rider.
- Q: Normally a 150 tire will go on a rim which is 3‘ or 3.5 rim, but will a 150 tire stretch out to the wider rim?A 160 or larger is out of the question as clearance issues come into play.Rim is 16 x 5.
- measure the clearance on the tire that's on the rim at the moment if you have 20mm clearance then you can afford to loose 15mm of it that is each side. as the tire rim sit in the middle so if you have 15mm twice the stock tire is 150. you can fit 180mm as long as your not flexing the side wall of the tire too much. it should be OK but the local tire shop should be able to steer you in the right direction
- Q: I bought a r6 which has Pilot Power tires on them. The tires have a little more than 700miles on them. Now my front tire got a nail in it and is now flat. So my question is that can I buy a brand new front tire on my bike?? will it effect performance because the rear is more worn?? do i gotta buy 2 new tires???or does it make no difference at all?????
- Avon, Bridgestone. But it depends very much on what kind of tire you need. I would compare specific tires rather than just manufacturers. Any major manufacturer of motorcycle tires (Avon, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Metzeler, Michelin, etc.) will have some models that are good. Having said that, the Pirelli tires that I've looked at so far always had far too little life expectancy and I couldn't find any Continental tires that would suit my purpose.
