- Diesel -electric has long been used in trains, buses, ships, mine equipment. Diesel has 30% more energy per gallon over gasoline. Diesel is a by-product that is refined from trying to make gas from crude oil. Diesel can also be made from soy beans, coal oil, vegtable oils, used cooking oils. The new Blue tec diesel engines exhaust is even cleaner then the air that went into the air filter--(cleans the air as you drive). Diesel doesn't evaporate ,. The old vw rabbits use to get 48 mpg highway---that was 24 years ago, diesel engines have gotten cleaner and more powerful for their size. Generators normally never go above 3600 rpms. So the idea of a engine that has so many ways to make the fuel, fuel that has more energy per gallon, cleans the air as it drives, the engine has plenty of torque for it's size and weight---just makes scents to me that it would make a good hybrid

- Q: I live in a location without municipal water supply. I could buy a natural gas generator, and hire an electrician to connect it to my breaker box, but I believe there is a way to connect solar panels to a battery system to provide enough power for my 220 volts submerged pump. I have 2 horses, 24 chickens, 2 dogs, 4 cats, 3 parakeets, and 3 people that need water in the event of a hurricane, national power grid attack,etc. There are solar powered generators advertised, but they are not powerful enough for 220. Also, my whole neighborhood of over 200 homes all lives off their own water wells, and we all suffered during hurricane Ike: 10 days without a water supply.
- For solar you would want to have a bank of batteries to store that power. Like the other guy said, you're better off buying a Honda Generator or even just a diesel (not gasoline, DIESEL) powered pump for emergencies.

- It really depends on how old the generator is. In the last 15 years or so the engine/generator controllers came with some of the things you seek. It really depends on the manufacture, (onan, kohler, generac,cat etc.) If your generator control panel is of a digital display you MAY have the capability. If it has dials and guages you probably do not. It can be retro-fit with new generation controllers that will give you what you seek. It would be expensive though,

- Should be a 65 amp breaker or 70 I doubt that you will find a single pole breaker that size Are you sure that size generator is not 230volts but has 120volt output also?
