- Q: I live in a remote location and my power bill is just ridiculously expensive -- I did the math and it seems like it'll be way cheaper for me to use my solar panel (which currently supplies DC power to a few parts of the house) and a diesel/oil/propane generator (which I have yet to purchase), and just cut off all mains power.Question is, which of these configurations is better?1)-Solar panel-DC generator-Large battery bank-High-wattage inverterResult: AC power throughout the house, using both solar panel and generator to charge the batteries as needed2)-Solar panel-AC generator-Smaller battery bank (for solar panel only)-No inverterResult: AC power when generator running, DC power from solar panel and batteries (I use DC right now for lights and a few basic appliances so I can live without AC power)Or should I do a combination of both, like using an inverter for the solar panel to always provide AC power? Thanks.
- i)Increase the no. of solar panels, as it is a one time expenditure only. A battery bank(of sufficient size) A small DC generator ii) If you live in an area where oil is really cheap try investing in an AC generator The first option will always be better
- Q: diesel generator
- 1. Determine the diameter of the cylinders and piston stroke of locomotive engine 2. Determine the wheel diameter of the locomotive 3. Find the mean pressure of the piston for the generator engine 4. Multiply the cylinder diameter by itself 5. Multiply 324 by the stroke length 6. Multiply 7,776 by the mean pressure of the piston 7. Divide 622,080 by the diameter of the locomotive wheel.
- Q: first, no power plants here.there is a siege on my country.also no engines like these which generate electricity from wind.and they keep cutting the electricity.so, I`m ready to do everything with my hands.and well, yes I can buy some basic things. like dynamo.actually everything basic thing like diode and these stuff, I can buy.I have some prior knowledge in electricity,I`m 200% ready to study and know more,I`m 200% ready to do the needed machine with my own hands.so, can you suggest any basic Ideas that may help me? and already known Ideas that can be implemented
- First question is can you get fuel like coal or gas? If something like that is possible you might want to look into either trying to build or buy a small gas generator or a steam piston that you could then use to generate electricity. Otherwise water, wind or solar is your best bet. Solar probably won't work to well unless you can afford to buy panels, making them isn't really an option. Look into wind, but hydro power especially wouldn't be that hard.
- Q: I have never had any interest in cars until recently when diesel engines have started to feel like important and valuable power sources moving forward.

- Q: I guess the batteries are just extra weight - I'm not looking for an exact math answer, I could do the same thing. Or use a different gen, etc. to increase HP. I'm just interested in this concept of using the generator to move the vehicle along till real power is contributed by a battery bank.
- As you increase horsepower, you increase weight. Refer back to your original question, I listed some useful answers that apply here as well. The basic principle you are thining of is exactly the principle of a modern Diesel electric locomotive short of the battery bank. As a concept- it is very workable. 3 Phase power has an advantage to it of space and weight savings for the horsepower versus single phase.
- Q: I have an old generator that the motor doesn't run. I want to salvage the generator head and make something like a wind, steam, or bio diesel generator I haven't made my mind up yet. But for now I need to dismantle the head from the motor. I think it has some kind of a ratio box on it too I'm not sure I've never done this before. I sure would appreciate any help!
- The generator end should unbolt, followed by the stator. Remove everything you can and all that should remain is the rotor attached to the engine crank shaft.
- Q: I am doing this project to find eco friendly alternatives for businesses. So how is electricity in it generated. Also.why is the pollution of water bad? I mean i realize that it kills marine life, and it affects biodiversity, but how does it affect the wold, or even us humans???
- Many modern cruise ships use a combination gas and steam power or COGAS plant to produce electric power. Much like you cars alternator in your car it converts other power sources into electricity. Unlike you car though the COGAS system does not directly power the ship but sends the electricity to electric turbines for propulsion and also provides the rest of the ship with electric power. The human body uses about 10 cups of water each day. No matter how it regains this water ( liquid or solid ) all these sources get it from nature. Contaminates in the water, though most tend to be filtered out, pass on to the food or water source that you get it from. Obviously, contaminates like weed killer use on a lawn, can contaminate rivers and streams causing other plants and animals to mutate and die. Though much has been done to keep contaminated water from reaching humans in more recent times some still make it through the filtering systems. Contaminated water has been found to be main contributing factors in plagues, cancer, mutations, as well as other things in humans. I hope this helps.
- Q: I would like to try a browns gas generator on a 3 cylinder Diesel engine to compare efficiency and save money and not add a turbo to the unit. I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience in this. I am also considering a natural gas flow to the intake.
- Had the previous responder actually read from his Wikipedia reference he would have proven himself incorrect
- Q: I am doing a research project and I can't find anything about there being power plants on Easter Island, Do they have to bring in batteries?
- Electricity, also widely available, but expensive by world standards, is provided by diesel generators to 220v Chilean standard, using a 2-pin round plug. The USA constructed Hotel Hangaroa maintains its American standard 110v 2-pin flat plug.
- Q: Difference between diesel generator and gas turbine generator set
- The operation cost of gas generator sets is low: the new energy, turning waste into treasure and environmental protection and clean emission are becoming more and more popular
