Q: What is the most important parameter of diesel generator
rated current (Ie): refers to the diesel generator set in the rated state of the line current, the unit is an kA (A)
Q: HelloI am doing a question on my homework and im being asked to determine how long a tank of gas on a diesel generator would last a family if one tank produced 20kW of electricity. This family uses 2.052kWh of electricity every day. The problem i have run into is that i don't know how to determine how long tha tank can last with only those values, i have a feeling im missing something very obvious here. Any help would be great. Thanks!
Yup, you missed the obvious. It is not important how big the tank is, simply that when you have used the whole tank you have produced a total of 20kW/hours of electricity for consumption. So as shown by the first person to answer, the tank will last for around 9.5 days. (Assuming the family's consumption is consistent throughout the day.)
Q: I just watched the Chernobyl Diaries and it made me really interested with the actual disaster and the impact of it. I never really knew anything about it up until watching this movie and it just fascinates me. What happened that the nuclear plant exploded? Did people did from it? What is Chernobyl like today? Just some interesting facts about the whole thing would be great!
On April 26, 1986, the operating crew planned to test whether the Reactor No. 4 turbines could produce enough energy to keep the coolant pumps running until the emergency diesel generator was activated in case of an external power loss. During the test, power surged unexpectedly, causing an explosion and driving temperatures in the reactor to more than 2,000 degrees Celsius—melting the fuel rods, igniting the reactor’s graphite covering, and releasing a cloud of radiation into the atmosphere. The precise causes of the accident are still uncertain, but it is generally believed that the series of incidents that led to the explosion, fire and nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl was caused by a combination of reactor design flaws and operator error.
Q: I inherited a never used generator from a family estate with no motor. After a tornado here last fall I've decided to build a gen-set with it and I have a few questions. 1) Does the 1800 rpm generator mechanical specification mean that the required engine rpm must be a minimum, maximum 1800 rpm or both? Could it be more or is the chance to ruin it a possibility? I want to stay safe.2) Obviously I'm assuming the 25 hp engine requirement is a minimum but how much bigger can it be without wet stacking problems?3) With these generator output specifications can I power my household without damaging anything?I was planning diesel (still researching brands) and connecting direct. Thoughts?
1) The 1800 RPM specification is the speed which will produce the 60 Hz output. This frequency is critical in some of your household electronics, maybe. If the speed is lower than 1800 RPM, the hertz will be lower. If speed is higher, the hertz will be higher. 2) The 25 HP driver is probably sufficient for your generator. A more powerful engine will not return the value for the extra cost of the larger driver. However, a larger driver will give you perhaps a better frequency control. 12.5 KW is (in theory) 12500 / 746 16.75 HP. I'm not sure what 'wet stacking' is. 3) .It will power most households. You may have some problem starting a large AC unit, if you have your electric clothes dryer, stove, oven and a larger lighting load on at the time it comes on. TexMav
Q: I want to calculate the Genset load of following 3 phase, 50 C/s, 400/ 440 volts electric motors coupled with Water pumps.60 HP x 4 Nos. + 100 HP x 3 Nos. + 225 HP x 3 Nos.What is the method for calculating the safest load for all these motors to run simultaneously.
You are after capacity of the generator not load. You add up all the power required: 240 HP + 300 HP + 675 HP 1215 HP 1 HP 746 W Power required 906.39 kW You take this figure in consideration to choose your set allowing for efficiency and power factor.
Q: I thought we had some smart people in government. Guess not. Read somewhere that one station was pumping it out themselves.NO NEED FOR EXPENSIVE 20,000 WATT DIESEL GENERATOR. Wake the F**K up people!
Yea. Drill by using the grate? Drilling through technique of metallic creates sparks and sparks makes gas fumes bypass strengthen. Plus the position are the metallic filing going as you drill? acceptable in to the tank with the gas. In needed Park that they had 2 turbines gigantic sufficient to capacity four hundred houses each and each and every for use for the lengthy island Marathon. Why now no longer hook considered one in each and every of them as a lot as a pair gas stations each and every. In places you've gotten some stations close together do no longer you?
Q: I am shopping for alternative power source as diesel powered generators are becoming too expensive and noisy
Your best bet is going to be Geothermal. It's cheap, reliable, and can be used 99% of the time. That is if you are thinking solely of hot water /space heating and cooling A wind turbine will set you back slightly less cash but it is also limited to factors such as: - if the wind isn't blowing with enough velocity, then the turbine isn't spinning (cut-in speed) which means the turbine isn't producing 100% of the time. -your location may not be suited for wind harvesting( not enough wind duration per year) -the bigger the generator, the larger the diameter of the wind swept area. I don't think you would want a 7MW +400' diameter turbine in your backyard(source below). If you are thinking of electrical needs then solar PV may be another option to invest in. Either way, talk to a renewable energy specialist about scouting your area for efficiency before you make a decision.
Q: Fanks for answering!
Advantages: does not release greenhouse gases, requires little fuel, fuel source is extremely abundant (there is more energy in recoverable and fertile thorium that in all other source of energy combined, except for hydrogen fusion, which we do not know how to do yet) Disadvantage: delicate to implement, can be missused to produce nuclear weapons components, leaves radioactive waste that remain radioactive for centuries and millenias, scares people and is thus costly to build because of all the multiple redundancy safety systems. You're felcome
Q: can you also tell me the functioning of those parts. thank you.
I think you mean diesel-electric generator. Properly, a diesel generator is a factory that makes diesel fuel. And the parts (at a high level, as there are thousands of parts total) are a diesel engine, plus fuel tank. an electric generator or alternator and electronic and mechanical controls to adjust the engine and generator so that it outputs the required voltage and frequency as the load changes.
Q: fuel oil (called also heavy oil) operated engine.can be a dual fuel engine e.g. diesel / fuel oilor engine only or a generator set.generator 150~250 Kvaor engine only 200~300 HPused in working condition
Fuel oil is diesel. You can try a google on used machinery suppliers, they should give you some idea. Depending on where you are you will find someone who can help. Failing that if you already have a gen set, adapt a scania or volvo engine to drive it. Both these engines come in the horsepower range you are asking for and will give many years faithful service providing you look after them. All you need is to securely mount the chosen engine on a 3 channel frame, preferably on manufacturers engine mounts, with a adaptor plate (easily produced by anyone with half an idea) to drive the gen motor. Make sure you have warning lights (pref buzzer) in place for oil press, temp etc and you're in business.
