Q:Hello, what I'm really trying to understand is how do large generators that power prisons, hospitals and various government buildings work? I have a basic understanding of regular house generators and their working process. What I want to know is how such a generator can acquire power in a case of a complete electric blackout, is there a back up supply line? another power source? Surely to supply a large building such as a prison or a hospital one would need a large reserve of power. So the question is where does that power come from? Or are they completely autonomous? Also are these generators commonly used nowadays and what is the difference between them and the reserve power system if any. I would greatly appreciate any answers that could explain the above. Thanks.
You are asking about backup generators? They have a gasoline or diesel engine driving the generator.
Q:because generating electricity is not very efficient, coal being imported from bolivia etcDoes it matter how far the stations are apart?btw dieselectric means the locomotive isn't directly diesel-driven, but runs on electricity generated by a diesel-generator inside the locomotive
The advantages of dieselelectric outweigh steam, mostly due to the high maintenance required on coal-fired steam engines. Another large factor is the ability of electrical generator to drive the traction motors required to overcome the inertia of the enormous mass of the freight when the train is starting up. Efficiency is not simply the mechanical efficiency of the system, but the ability to maintain the system and adapt it to various tasks.
Q:I have been given a cheap diesel generator made from china. It starts alright, but seems to be reving very high and poping and spitting until it has ran for a while. It surges some times as well. I don't really like it much and haven't used it to power anything other then to load test it a bit. I have checked the motor and all it has is a simple governor on it with no adjustments? I am not sure even where to start adjusting anything on this. Any body have one of these and same problem? Please I was given it, I would like to get a little service out of it , not just junk it Fuel, oil, air filter are all new.so? help?
So what did you want to do with this engine? It sounds like a stationary engine used to power a generator or pump or similar application at a constant RPM.
Q:i know that steam powers the turbine. And depending on the type of plant, i know how the steam is made. But once the turbine is spinning and generating electricity, i get lost. I know it all has something to do with electrons and metal coils and magnetic fields, but can you help me understand it all?
This website shows the entire process animatedly so it's kind of hard to explain. I, myself am a visual person so this should help. It even shows how the generator in the picture works. www1.eere.energy /geothermal/g Since generators are usually powered by turbines, which in turn are powered by energy sources for example geothermal energy, then what you are looking for is not a specific type of generator, but a regular generator which can be found in any type of power plant. Generators and motors are very closely related and many motors that contain permanent magnets can also act as generators. If you move a permanent magnet past a coil of wire that is part of an electric circuit, you will cause current to flow through that coil and circuit. That's because a changing magnetic field, such as that near a moving magnet, is always accompanied in nature by an electric field. While magnetic fields push on magnetic poles, electric fields push on electric charges. With a coil of wire near the moving magnet, the moving magnet's electric field pushes charges through the coil and eventually through the entire circuit. howthingswork.virginia.edu/electr
Q:has anyone ever heard of a 50cc diesel engine? if so, where could i get one and how much is it?also, i just want the engine, i dont want the rest of the scooter, bike, etc.
This Site Might Help You. RE: 50cc diesel engine?????? has anyone ever heard of a 50cc diesel engine? if so, where could i get one and how much is it? also, i just want the engine, i dont want the rest of the scooter, bike, etc.
Q:Can any anyone help me with this. The generator is a brushless, air-cooled diesel generator without AVR. It is kinda old and it's made from Japan. The manufacturer is Yanmar.
There's a capacitor in the generator, and I suspect it's bad. They're not very expensive, and can be tested with the right kind of meter.
Q:I planned that the factory be fully mechanised. Public power supply is very poor. I wanted to purchase diesel generators but i have been advised by a friend that solar generators are more cost effective. Is solar a good source of energy to power such a factory?
Yes, it can be fully solar. Very power comsuming factories are autonomous. If you dont find how to, if you want e-mail me and i will put you in touch with some companies. For your info, some companies not only are autonomous, they resell power while they dont use it.
Q:husband is looking for something that he can use for power that is more economical. (no natural gas lines)
No, not if you are talking about running this all the time 24/7, if this is what you are implying to here. You can not run a home on any generator as cheap as the utility company sells it for. Now if you are referring to a back up system just in case power goes off then yes propane is not bad as far as the cost goes. With the prices of fuels Propane for me right now is less expensive then diesel fuel is, which diesel gen set would be a good option as well. If you are talking about a total electric home with heat you are talking a big generator anyway I would not use anything less then a 23.5 kw or larger if you are in a cold climate. depends on your actual demand but if you have electric heat they use a lot. As compared to a home with gas heat and they can get by with some as small as 9 .5 kw to get them by. If you want to check in to green or free power solar does help as well as a windmill. The initial cost is very expensive to start though.
Q:I have a new Onan 10k diesel generator engine and an old isuzu pickup truck not worth engine replacement cost. Can this small diesel be adapted to fit the manual transmission?
Anything is possible, but Is it practical? Probably not. Can you do all the work? I hope so, because the amount it would cost in labor to do it would be much more than rebuilding or replacing what you have now.
Q:I want to know if i can get a 40kvh generator (witch is usually ran by 4 cylinder diesel engine) to run with a water wheel and some poulies??
(Assuming kvh is a misprint for kVA) If you can (1) get a big enough water wheel (40kVA 40 000 Newton-metres per second: you would need about 4000 kg of water per second falling through a height of 1 metre to run it at full capacity, increasing the fall or reducing the maximum load will reduce the required flow rate) and (2) ensure that you can get the generator to spin at 3000 rpm (to get 50 cycles a second) then yes.
