- Q: and diesel generator and ATS that switches between two electrical sources ??
- There may be no difference. It will depend on the application. For example, if I specified an ATS that had the proper voltage and current capacities, the only other item of concern would be to determine if the transfer would be a make before break or a break before make type of transfer. In a make before break, it would mean the sources would be placed into parallel operating condition before one of the sources was interrupted. This would require the ability to synchronize the sources. Which means the frequency, voltage and phase relationship of the sources must match before they are placed into parallel service. On a break before make switch, usually only phase rotation and approximate voltage levels are of concern. Hope this helps, Newton1Law
- Q: i think having a back up generator at my home would be useful in case of winter power disruptions however and although the new generation generators are quiet enough to stand next to where would I stand with electricity suppliers ?
- No. Running a fuel-powered motor inside any building is unsafe.
- Q: i want to see the model of this perkins generating set
- are you sure its a perkins? It may be a Yanmar?
- Q: I am leaving a career as an aviation electrician after 23 years and have applied for a job as a diesel locomotive electrician with Union Pacific. I was notified about a skills test and was hoping to brush up a bit before the test. Which areas should I focus on studying? Also what can I expect on a day to day basis working in this field? And lastly, although I can troubleshoot and wire a jumbo liner in my sleep I don't have specific experience with large generators and motors. How will this affect me in the hiring process. Thanks in advance for any help.
- Diesel Electrician
- Q: Diesel?Coal?I mean modern trains, like freight and passenger ones. Thanks!
- Diesel
- Q: If the electrical grid fails and takes years to re-establish, how will the plants cool down?
- If they are shut down and there is no grid power, then they would use diesel generators to run the cooling systems, the generator would need refueling every eight hours. If they are operational, they produce more than enough power for the cooling system. A conventional nuclear power plant is at it's most dangerous when shut down which is ironic since most safety protocols demanded of them requires shutting them down whenever there is a slight risk such as what happened at Fukishima, had Fukishima been left on, there would not have been a problem. You could bet that even if the entire grid may take years to rebuild, the nuclear power plants, hospitals and even grocery stores would have priority and would have power very quickly, a grid doesn't have to be completely repaired for portions of it to work. Solar storms are really not a civilization ending threat, merely an inconvenience as it might take some time for the entire grid to be operational again but that does not mean portions of it wouldn't be operational sooner as in days. Of course, conventional solid fuel rod nuclear technology were developed for expediency in producing weapons grade plutonium and the proprietary fuel rods allowed the manufacturers to direct the economic benefits to themselves much as printer manufacturers do with inkjet cartridges. A competing technology called liquid flouride thorium reactors could not melt down, could not explode, could not leak, shuts down safely if cooling power is lost, stays shutdown safely without power, and consumes existing nuclear waste reducing the nuclear wastes to a small amount that only needs to be stored for 350 years instead of the current 30,000 years. The military had no need for it, the government didn't want it because it did not employ an army of technicians, the reactor manufacturers didn't want it as it did not have proprietary nuclear fuel rods.
- Q: I have been given a cheap diesel generator made from china. It starts alright, but seems to be reving very high and poping and spitting until it has ran for a while. It surges some times as well. I don't really like it much and haven't used it to power anything other then to load test it a bit. I have checked the motor and all it has is a simple governor on it with no adjustments? I am not sure even where to start adjusting anything on this. Any body have one of these and same problem? Please I was given it, I would like to get a little service out of it , not just junk it Fuel, oil, air filter are all new.so? help?
- So what did you want to do with this engine? It sounds like a stationary engine used to power a generator or pump or similar application at a constant RPM.
- Q: I want to buy a portable generator for power-outages and need some advice on which to buy. I want to run: at least one refrigerator possibly a stand-alone freezerbasic lightinga few outlets a sum-pump. I also need to provide power to my heat in the winter Our heat is natural gas but it needs to be lit with the pilot light and I guess the thermostats need power. Preferrably diesel so we can store fuel safer. How many volts and watts do I need, what price range should I look for, and how many gallons of fuel would I need to be prepared for a good 2 days without power? Thanks- best answer gets the 10!
- Your idea of a diesel is good. Look on the back of both all appliances and find the plate that tells how many watts and amps they use and copy them down. Make a list of what will be plugged into the outlets and if possible get the amps and wattage of those and add it to your list, same with sump pump. Now take that list to a dealer and show it to them and they will figure out what size generator you will need. Do not guess what size generator you will need, most underestimate The size and often by a large amount. Let an expert that is in the business do the figuring. Most answers on here go by widely varying assumptions and uneducated guesses, depending on any of them could result in your system watts being way off. You might be paying for a system several times too large or small if you rely on these answers. Either way it could get very expensive and wasteful.
- Q: i can not figure out that why the hiring department selected someone without any interview!!! and one thing i would like to let you know that,my supervisor rejected my RFI at first without giving a look on it giving the reason that lack of three years experience, even having around ten years experience. that means the hiring has made through favoritism or through recommendation.but i am a fool working in CSA for these 22 months hoping to get my professional job, first of all the CSA cheated me while recruiting from India, telling me that i am coming here as a Utility technician(diesel generator mech), but gave me the position Supply Associate, promising to give my professional position within three months, but i got the position Mechanic Associate after sixteen months, but the work is water washing (in Wash Rack). anyhow please let me get the proper person's contacts. so that i may not loose my precious life time and skills like this.looking forward to hear from you soon
- I work for CSA as well, first off are you western or TCN? If you were offered a specific position and didn't get it you should be talking with HR. Or get a Kuwaiti lawyer the company is in violation of labor laws. CSA lately has been doing some very unethical things and are going to get caught.
- Q: How much is the waste of the power that may be lost in the combination of two engine and where I can find the diagram that shows the relation between rpm and HP in the combined two diesel engine.this two engine combined with a clutch that synchronize two engine for two input in gears and single output.
- It's best to connect them at the crank so that they can be timed to fire in a manner that your getting the most amount of power you can. This has been done in applications as small as a .12cc engine all the way up to huge engines that power large ships. The most common place I used to see it is with gas engines for tractor pull. The engines do sync up and will run together when you pair them up thru a clutch
