Q: The tar has been on the carpet for four months: There is a poduct called Goof-Off. Works for tar, gum, paint, and other sticky type things. It works well, and doesn't have too bad of an odor. It is nice to keep around the house. Comes in an orange spray bottle and is pretty easy to find.

I have done it with a high pile carpet by cutting a small slit and injecting glue beneath the carpet and then put weight on it for a while. If it is a low pile carpet you might have a hard time hiding your incision. Maybe if you can get a syringe type injector (meat injector) you can make a small enough hole that's not visible.

Q: So I have this cheap $20 rug from walmart thats teal. I did away with it for a while but now that I want my room redone, I want a black rug to go in front of a futon. How would I go about dyeing this rug instead of buying a new one and leaving this one to collect dust? It has a plastic wired bottom to hold the rug together and to act slip resistant. Would dyeing it affect it?: Whether dyeing would work depends on what fibre it's made of. If it's wool or cotton, it would dye quite well with ordinary dyes, though it might present a few difficulties since dyes usually call for being heated, and a lot of rinsing after. If it's a synthetic fibre, which it very likely is, it might not dye at all because synthetics don't absorb dye very well, if at all. If they do, they usually require processes that would be very difficult to achieve with a rug, such as heating the dye bath with the item in it. All in all, it's probably not worth even trying. Find a cheap black rug to buy.

Unless you are comparing apples to apples it is not possible to get a fair average price. I have a carpet business and customers ask a question like this all the time. So this is what I tell them. My company has a 25 ounce carpet with a FHA padding for $6.99 per square yard. Just over 77 cents a square foot. This carpet is not industrial and is better then rental carpeting. And the price goes up from this point. You must tell the store you are call the exact type of carpet you want to get comparison prices, that way you are apples to apples, not whatever store one gives you compared to store two. Installation cost run around 30 cents per square foot in my area (depending on size of job, type of carpet, stairs etc.)

Q: I currently operate a rug store that sells almost all persian rugs in Santa Rosa California (in the San Fransisco bay area). Operation is rather stable but I have two issues.1. I sell high quality rugs and hence the prices are more expensive reflecting the quality. However, many customers can find designs similar to mine on the internet at 1/3 to 1/4 of the price. (internet is 600, mine are 3000). If you put the rugs side by side you can DEFINATELY tell the drastic difference in quality. How should I cope with this?2. It doesn't cost a penny more, and you have a better opportunity to give valuable details on your products.
