- Washing your rug can be perfect , but in removing tough stains why not use white vinegar , this will remove stain effectively, afterward sprinkle amount of baking soda to remove bad smell, and then vacuum it.

- My feeling is you'll have to get new carpet. You're basically going to have to saturate the carpet repeatedly with solvent and rub it with old towels to soften and absorb the adhesive. Carpeting has a tendency to 'wick down' moisture, so if you soften the glue it will want to go down further into the carpet rather than wipe off. Depending on the thickness and height of the pile, and how much adhesive is stuck to the fibers, you may be doing a lot of work for nothing. Solvents you can use would include stuff like Goo Gone, however it will take a lot to get the adhesive off, and that will get expensive. You can also use paint thinner or turpentine, but the fumes may be too much unless you can close off the room, and the smell will linger. Either way, you'd best not light a match in that room for a while, and the solvents could also cause the adhesive under the carpet to fail.

- There are 2 types of padding in foam. One is solid and the other is pieces recycled and glued together called re-bond. Both have good qualities, but the thickness of the pad can make a carpet feel plush and comfortable or firm like a pool table. The thicker the padding the softer the feel, like a mattress.
- Q:The rug cleaning company wants $300 to clean the rugs, $200 to deodorize them and $200 for a protection service that will help them stay clean. Are the extras worth it? I looked online though and the ones I found all seem to have tines that are very close together. I don't think it would get down far enough to pull anything up. - It may be an issue of what your rug is made of. I had a similar problem with a synthetic rug and I had to hang it outside for weeks to get the stink out of it (we'd used a steam cleaner 4 times on it so we knew it was clean). Make sure you've gotten all the soap out of the carpet because that can actually attract more dirt! Also try cleaning the surface the rug was on. Sometimes the smells can get trapped there too.
