Q:I have a smallish (3ft by 5ft) area rug that needs to be cleaned. It's not worth enough to pay a cleaner and I have hardwood floors so I'm not trying to rent a steam cleaner. I was thinking about using a clothes line between two trees and hosing it down real well with a pressurized garden hose... I have tried vacuuming and quot;beatingquot; the rug with a stick, but there is a dingy coloration that I think needs water/washing to get it looking nice. I wasn't going to use any detergents, just water and a scrub brush then let it air dry for a day or so. Does this seem like at least a semi-good idea? I'll sooner throw the rug out and spend money on a new one than spend money cleaning this one. Any advice would be appreciated. When shopping for carpet, you ll be buying or comparing that price to an s/f price. This is the way carpet must be sold. The builders price break down to 1.77$ a s/f. You ll be able to get a cheap bedroom carpet for that if you look hard but none with any quality will be found. Get a carpet with a stain protector, you don t necessarily need Staimaster, although a good stain blocker, your paying some for the name. Also shop for a carpet with anti matte, anti crush. This won t matte down and show walk patterns. This differs from an anti wear warranty. Edit to your add on questions.. My family is the original owners of our house and she is the only cat that has been in this house. how would i get the smell out of my carpet and if for some reason she is peeing on the carpet how would i get her to stop? also i thought it could be the smell of dust but i vacuum, how would i get my carpet to stop smelling?: Cat pee and dust do not smell at all alike, if she has been the only cat in there and it smells like pee then she is the culprit. First off wash the whole carpet, then once that is dry get some cat urine remover spray at your pet store get the largest bottle you can, I find a few soakings works best. You spray it on till the area is wet, let it dry and redo it again. Even if you cannot smell the pee your cat can so just washing it will not remove the smell. She may still go back and pee just from habit and I have never found a way to stop a cat once they start peeing where they are not supposed to.

See what he has before making any purchases. In terms of types, it depends on whether he is going to be field kept, stable kept, on a combined system and if he will be clipped in the winter. It also depends on the individual - some horses feel the cold more than others. It also depends on the storage space you have at the yard. My Connemara is on a combined system (in at night, out during the day) and has a hunter clip in the winter. These are the types of rugs he has: -Lightweight turnout -Middleweight turnout -Heavyweight turnout -Detachable neck cover for turnout rugs -Fly rug -Fleece coolers (we have a few of these as we like to keep one worn and the others clean for after bathing him when we are going competing) -Lightweight stable rug -Middleweight stable rug -Heavyweight stable rug -Duvet-type under rug -Summer sheet In the winter we layer rugs depending on the weather and the clip he has - he often starts with a blanket clip and once that starts to grow out, he has a hunter clip and requires more or different rugs. Rugs that are clean and not currently in use are left in the bags the cleaning lady put them in (we send rugs off to be cleaned a couple of times a year) and are stored in a wardrobe in a container provided by the yard we're on so they stay clean and dry. Q:Just wondering if anyone knows a product that will loosen carpet glue without ruining the finish on a terrazzo floor... the previous owners of our house covered up the terrazzo with carpeting and glued down the padding... not a lot of glue, but enough for me to say bad words, and I'd really like to take some of the carpeting out, but can't afford to have someone else come in to refinish the terrazzo at this point...Anyway, does anyone know of anything I could use?: The extension handle on the scraper will help your back from getting too sore. (lol) PS- Removing the old carpet is going to improve the overall health of your home. Old carpeting is the #1 cause of asthma and other air-born illness's. (At that time we could not afford to replace with real wood floors.) 4 years ago we found some tongue and groove laminate flooring (from all places) at Sams Club. Try oriental rugs or persian rugs. Very costly. Can set you back a couple grand but will increase in value over time. you need to look behind the rug for the quality. You are looking for handstitched and lots of detail, etc. The most important characteristic for me is durability and washability. Some you can put into the washer, others need special cleaners, some are spot clean only. The second characteristic important to me is texture. I like plush soft carpets that you can walk on with your bare feet. Of course, color choice and design are important. (floral? transitional? contemporary?) I like transitional. I'm a fan of Mohawk and Shaw area rugs. You can find them at Home Depot. Reasonable prices for machine made rugs.

Q:Will peroxide remove rust stains from carpet?: Rust Stain Removal from Carpet 1.Vacuum up as much of the rust as possible. 2.Saturate the stain with lemon juice and allow it to sit for 5 minutes. 3.Using a clean, white towel or several paper towels, blot the rust stain to remove as much of the lemon juice as possible. 4.Using a solution of dishwashing detergent and water, re-saturate the rust stain and gently scrub with a toothbrush or small scrub brush. Scrub only within the borders of the stain as this can spread it. The purpose of the scrubbing is to loosen the rust from the carpet so it can be removed. 5.blot the area dry once more. Repeat until the stain has been removed.
