Just be absolutely sure to remove the plastic bag over the carpet in the morning as you do not want to cause any sort of moisture problem as you need to leave the rug there, flat, to dry. If that does not work, you may need to use steam. Put your iron on the lowest temperature setting that will still allow steam. Fill the water reservoir and allow the water to heat up. Then, place the iron an inch or two over the rug and press the burst of steam button on the iron to release the wrinkles in the rug but do NOT iron the rug or allow the iron to touch the rug. Allow the rug to completely dry. Either one of these two methods can be used as I have tried both, successfully. I do not know which will work for your carpet because I am unaware of the fabric content of your rug.

Q: I think Tide works great for brightening clothes and was wondering is there anything out there that brings out the color in older carpets (my carpets are about 7 years old and they are starting to fade in color).: I'm having the same problem and I just searched the net and found a place that recommended using hydrogen peroxide and it............. so tomorrow I'll buy some and try that. but if you find anything better than the shampooer please let me know too!!! I think you're already aware that having a carpet cleaning machine would be much better...but try using a scrub brush with oxy-clean solution....or using white vinegar and baking soda solution. (Vinegar disinfects and may help to eliminate the urine odor). You could try this combination first....and then go over it using the oxy-clean solution to clean more. After carpet is dried, regular sprinkling of baking soda all over it and letting it sit, then vacuuming it up will help to take out some odor, too. (But if pets have been regularly going on the carpet, there are stains all the way down to the floorboard and carpet is ruined, really). Just do the best you can in this situation, okay? See if you can stress the importance of the pets being able to go outside to do their business. Pet stores sell products that are like pet grass mats where they can go on instead of having accidents on carpets. (Check a pet store online and see if your parents would get those). Pet stores also sell cleaning products, too, if they want to inquire about having some on hand for the future.
