- Q: It's about the size of the cotton part of a q-tip/cotton swab... It's just a regular shiny black color, but then again this is the first time I've seen something like this. I found it crawling on the carpet, so I ran across the room to get something to kill it with. By the time I was back, I saw it digging into my carpet! I was astonished, and disgusted, so I got my vacuum cleaner, and went over the entire room it was in. A little later I saw it again! What is this, are there more beetles, and WHAT DO I DO?!

- Some carpet stains can be removed with a paste of 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar and 1/4 cup salt or baking soda. Rub into the carpet stain and let dry. Vacuum up the residue the next day. (Always test on an out-of-sight part of the carpet first).

- Q: my brother spilled water on the carpet and instead of drying it up he just threw a towel over it and left it all night. now the carpet smells really bad of mildew. i tried washing it with soap and water and it helped a little. i tried febreeze but that did no good. i don't have a steam carpet cleaner.
- The carpet just sat overnight and now smells of mildew? Wow. First you need to kill the mildew. I would spray it with Lysol so that you saturate the wet spot. You need to make sure that the padding underneath the carpet will be clean and dry, so you may even need to lift up the carpet to check the padding. If the water has saturated through to the padding, you need to Lysol that too. Then blot it with a towel to get as much of the moisture out as possible, and turn a fan on that spot and leave it for a couple of days until you are sure it is completely dry. Then work some baking soda into the carpet and vacuum it up.

- Ask an honest carpet man! :You will find the only thing really recommended is water! NO soap (the residue attracts more dirt!)...Just steam with water, do NOT soak carpet, but keep it lightly misted and vacuumed up with a carpet cleaner...if the dirt does NOT all come up with the first cleaning, wait until it dries, then do it again. Dirt makes its way down into the carpet and will keep coming up as the carpet dries if you get the carpet too wet. Good luck

- You can figure between $1.50/sqft - $4.00/sqft + installation, just depending on what type of carpet you choose. I just put some in my house that was about 1500sqft worth of carpet and paid $5500 total, and that wasn't that nice of carpet. I would shop around, yes it's nice to have some companies come to your house, but you should get several quotes and use them against each other as a bargaining tool. Good luck.

- Q: Ok so my toilet over flowed over night, which caused some water to go onto my living room rug(Clean Water). Its not too bad but bad enough that it needs to be cleaned. - If this rug is a machine-washable rug, just wash it in your machine. Then dry it in your dryer, but don't over-dry it. If the rug isn't machine-washable, take the rug to a Dry Cleaner. They should be able to clean it for you. Now if were talking about wall-to-wall carpeting, your best bet is to have the carpet professionally cleaned. Professionals not only can clean the carpet, they can add special deodorizers so that mold doesn't end up growing in the carpet. Cleaning just one room should cost that much.
