- Q: I accidentally spilled a little tung oil on a carpet this morning (stubborn cap = messy opening). Knowing that oil finishes can spontaneously combust, what is the safest way for me to clean the spill?Not much was spilled - possibly two teaspoons worth. I absorbed as much as I could with paper towels, and the rest got absorbed by the carpet.

- Q: My radiator started leaking and now my carpet is pretty much ruined. I've heard nothing but good about the Rug Doctor machine, but I don't know anything about using or renting the machine. Does anyone know how much it'll cost? Are the attachments needed in order to work the machine? Does the cleaning solutions come with it or is it an additional charge? Also any additional info about the machine would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

- Q: I recently had an incident with my toddler and a light candle. The wax went all over the carpet.. bright red wax, and white carpet. I have tried using a carpet cleaner and hand scrubbing it with a brush. Any ideas how to get it out? Thanks
- Put a piece of brown paper grocery bag down over the wax. Take an iron on a warm setting and set it on the paper bag. As the wax melts the paper bag will absorb the wax. Do it several times if needed, putting a new paper bag down to absorb more wax. Dont overheat the iron or it will burn the carpet. Start with the lowest setting on the iron and move up from there. Or use wax freeze in a spray can that you can spray on the wax. It freezes the wax to the point where you can break it away from the carpet carefully with a blunt knife.

- 1. Dip a white cloth (or a white paper towel with no printing) into the detergent solution and dab repeatedly, then press the cloth on the spot for a few seconds. Wait 15 minutes (it takes time to break down the stain), then soak up the excess liquid with a dry white cloth. 2. Dip a cloth into the vinegar solution and dab repeatedly, then press the cloth on the spot for a few seconds. Wait another 15 minutes. (This is an important step, because white vinegar removes residual detergent, which will attract dirt if left in the carpet.) 3. Rinse by blotting with a cloth soaked in lukewarm water. Wait one hour or until the carpet dries completely. For bad spills, place a 1/2-inch-thick stack of white paper towels over the stain after step 2, then lay a glass baking dish on top for 15 minutes. 4. As long as you see the stain lightening, repeat these steps until it is gone.

- Not sure maybe some frebreeze. Or alittle vinegar and water in a bowl, it takes out smoke smells in a room. Or try a box of freezer baking soda, just put a box in your closet for a couple of days. Hope it helps

- There is no such law. Landlords are never under obligation to replace carpet. In fact they are under no obligation to clean it for you, that is your job.

- Q: We are going to replace our flooring in the basement, it has very expensive cushony white carpet, and over the years with kids and dogs, it no longer looks white. Our basement is just under 1000 sq ft, and don't really feel like ripping all the carpet up. Its a very warm, dry basement, no dampness or leaks. So could I just put the laminate over this instead of using an underlay? Or is that just asking for trouble later on?
- absolutely not! it will not lay evenly, if the carpet is dark dirty in spots you are trapping all that underneath ripping up carpet takes a day of labor, cutting in strips with a carpet knife makes it even faster
- Q: This must sound like a really dumb question, but...I'm still a novice with horses, and one of my stable jobs is putting rugs on the horses to be turned out.And I have quite a lot of trouble getting the rugs on, especially as the horses are 17-18 hands, and the rugs are volumus! - There are two basic types of blankets; those that open in front and those that you must put over the horse's head (closed front) For blankets that open infront, normally, there is extra padding (usually white at the whithers. At the back, there is a tail flap. If you grab the padding in one hand and the tail flap in the other, it makes it much easier to swing over the horse's body. For blankets that are closed in the front, the first thing you have to do is put the horse's head through the front. In order to do this without it being inside-out, check and make sure the buckles are on the outside. If the horse is really tall, and you are short (like me) ask the horse to lower its head by doing short gentle tugs on the lead rope (if you just hold, the horse will most likely just throw its head up)
