Q:I have a light weight rug on top of a thick wall to wall carpet? I have tried to use padding made for this purpose but it does not work. The rug continues o bunch up and not lay flat. Thanks
Why dont you get some self adhiesive velcro and stick it to the back of the rug and on the carpet then it wont move.
Q:Hi yahoo answers give me a suggestions to remove the rugs from the carpet..
Do you mean rugs - pick them up and more them. Or bugs.... Insecticide.....
Q:I recently lost a large wall rug in my house due to a fire. The only information I have for it is the following: My grandmother purchased it from a traveling salesman in Canada sometime between 1967-1971. The dimensions of the rug are approx. 6ft long by 3-4 ft tall. It has a picture of polar bears on icebergs. The edging was red yarn-like fringes.I think that this rug is worth something but I can't find anything like it. I need to put a value on it for insurance purposes so I want to find out its true value and need documentation to prove that that rug, or one close to it, is worth a certain amount of money. My other grandmother had a similarly sized rug, possibly sold by the same guy, but it had a bullfighter and bull on it. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.
I'm not incredibly familiar with rugs, but I can try to give some help. After searching around a little bit, it seems that most of the rugs fitting this description are between $200-400, but rugs also run much higher in price. If it is a hand-made rug of that size made by a fine rug-maker, you could be talking $1000 dollars or more. I can't say too much more, since I'm in no way qualified to appraise a rug, since I don't know enough about them, but I included some links in the sources that might help you price your rug. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Q:I stay at my current apartment for 8 years, the carpet is not in good condition. The landlord just sent someone to do carpet wash, but refused to replace it. I am wondering if there is any law/regulation regarding how often the carpet needs to be replaced at the landlords/owners expense. Or any way I can request him to replace?Thank you.
You should have the carpet cleaned and ask the professional person to give their option as to the condition of the carpet. You have been there for eight years so I would gather that you really like the place. If it is wall to wall carpet, after you have it clean, place whatever size carpet that would cover most of the floor. When you move you can take the removable carpet with you.
Q:Hi,I am a tenant and had a leakage from a dishwasher. now carpet is wet and smelly.around 1 square meter is the carpet area affected. I told the landlord about it. My question is should I remove the carpet myself in the meantime just to prevent mould from building up?As long as I took pictures I am safe doing it if landlord does not send someone to fix within say 48 hours?Regardless, is it not the best thing to do anyway - remove the wet section and put in garbage until they come to install new carpet? is trying to dry and clean it instead an option?THANKS
Since you are a tenant, the carpet is the owner's property. You didn't mention if the wet spot smelled like mold so I am going to assume your answer would be yes. Since it has not been wet for very long from you, it may have gotten wet and moldy from a prior tenant and when it got wet from you, it reactivated the mold smell. The important thing is to get the water off the carpet from the top and under. If you have a wet/dry vac, vacuum as much as you can. You can also put towels down on the wet carpet and step on it. Keep doing that until you get up as much moisture as you can. What professionals do once that is done is they lift the carpet up and have a fan facing the wet carpet. The moving air will help dry it. You should not lift the carpet up yourself so you don't risk doing any damage to the carpet and have to pay for it yourself. As a tenant I would suggest you let the landlord take care of it. Make sure you put it in writing, depending on how responsive your landlord is. Date the letter and keep a copy for yourself. If the landlord does not take care of it within a reasonable period of time, you can call a professional and deduct it from your rent. If you do not have all of it in writing, you are not protected by tenant laws. I'm not sure what is considered a reasonable period of time for wet carpet.
Q:How to maintain the silk carpet?
Wipe and dry the polluted places, roll up the carpet according to the wool's direction, four is it can absorb moisture on the ground. Don't suck the side ear, it had better to lay a liner under the silk carpet. The cleaning and maintenance of silk carpet the cleaning and decontamination of pure silk carpet. The preservation of silk carpets When the silk carpet is not used, put it in a ventilated and dry place. use towel to absorb polluted places quickly. Change the direction every six months to a year to change the direction of the silk carpet so that the piles can bear force uniformly, this is tha daily maintenance of silk carpet. Silk carpet can be said to be a luxury decoration, and prolong its service life, the two is to extend its life. But the liner does not have to use, three is the liner can make silk carpet not slide. One is to feel more comfortable, but it is not very serious, is the priority among priorities, in daily life, silk carpet needs professional cleaning. If you sprinkle wine or oil on the carpet by accident, you must not put the silk carpet in a plastic bag for a long time. Then use a cloth to dip warm water with vinegar and detergent, then wipe the polluted places. When the silk carpet is laid, it can be cleaned once every two to three years, you can use vacuum cleaner to dedust
Q:I want to ask my mom if I can put carpet in my room, because right now its hardwood. We live where it gets cold, so it would be nice to walk on in the winter. It also more comfortable to walk on, and would look better. How much would it cost to carpet my room if its about 13 by 13 foot?
Just a basic carpet itself costs in the 2.50/3.50 $ a s/f installed with a pad. Your room is an odd size for carpet so you can t do just by the s/f..Since carpet comes 12' wide you can get a 12x 12 cut off any roll carpet as low as 99 cents a s/f. Or small area rugs, place where you walk is a cheaper option if you can t afford full wall to wall carpet. Plus small area rugs won t ruin hardwood in the long run to keep the house value higher.. GL
Q:What is the difference between engineering carpet and ordinary carpet?
Engineering carpets are high-grade carpet generally used in the hotel, KTV ,conference room and so on. the ordinary carpet is usually used at home.
Q:We've only lived in our brand new home for 1.5 years, and our carpet already has light patches! The carpet is that annoying tanish color that stains way easily, and it's stock manufactured home carpet, so it's not so great to begin with. A few weeks ago, I noticed a light patch in an area that would hardly ever be stepped on, even by our dogs. I don't think I've ever had to shampoo that area, except for in the summer when we had a guy shampoo the whole house. I decided to shampoo our carpets during Xmas break, and I'd barely begun when I noticed 2 more light patches! I highly doubt it's from our carpet cleaner. We use the same stuff the carpet guy used, and we've used it dozens of times without any problems. I decided to just let our carpet be dirty rather than risk any more damage, just in case. Ever had problems like this? I read a little about carpet dyes. Any experience?
If your home is a double wide (or larger), and you did not order it direct from the factory, then there is a good chance it sat on the dealer's lot for some time...and its possible some sunlight was allowed in thru the marriage wall. The marriage wall usually just has a layer of plastic over it for transport...some dealers leave it on while the home is on their lot, and some don't. Even a small hole in the plastic can result in a large faded area if it was facing the sun. (Some homes will sit on a dealerships lot for a year or so, before they are sold....plenty of time for the sun to cause some fading) There is also the possiblity that your cleaning chemicals did cause some fading....they all come with a warning to 'spot check' a section to see if they will cause any fading, before you are to use them all over the carpet. Since you mention dogs in the home, pet urine could also be a factor. And of course, there is always the chance that you just got a bad quality carpet to begin with. Different manufacturers use varying quality of carpet. Some are pretty good. Some are pretty cheap. A lot of the carpet being made today is synthetic...(some even use recycled plastic). Things like nail polish (or remover), or 'kool-aid' (its actually the sugar in the drink that does the damage) can actually alter the fibers chemically. Bleach dripped on the carpet will do the same, even if it is wiped up immediately. If a rag has been used to clean with bleach, or acetone (an ingredient found in most nail polish removers) is dropped on the carpet, or used when damp to wipe the carpet, it will cause the carpet to fade. If the carpet is in good shape, physically... little wear and tear, no holes, etc... then you may want to just have a professional come in to dye the carpet. Usually, this costs less than replacing the carpet, but get some quotes for replacing it too. Good Luck
Q:Okay so If wanted to get rid of carpet stains from animal urine or say spilled drinks that are months old would baking soda work to get them out? My parents aren't too clean or careful and don't care much that the carpet is so messed up because they never have anyone over and are constantly worrying about other things. I hate it it bothers me out so I want to take initiative and clean it. Would it work? If so how much? And if not I'd really appreciate you telling me what would. I can't rent any machines since I don't work lol I'm 15.. Thanks.Have a nice day(:
Sprinkle bicarb soda (baking powder) over the carpet and vacuum. The carpet will be cleaner and less smelly. Then treat the stains by rubbing the bicarb into the pile of the carpet and pouring a little white vinegar over the area. Allow to dry, then vacuum. You may have to repeat this process, but it does work. It is inexpensive and does not damage the carpet. I use this method on carpets (urine stains from an old cat) tapestry sofa and chairs and dining chairs which are antiques and it works every time.
