- Alot depends on having the proper tools and knowledge . If you have the right tools you could try it but i have known a few people that tried doing there own t-belt and ruined there motor . I am not trying to scare you just don't want you to cause any more expence for yourself. The water pump is easy once you get the belt off . If you do try it heres wishing you good luck

- The water pump is timing belt driven and is under the plastic timing cover on passenger side. These water pumps have a history of breaking, due to the fact they have a plastic impeller and it shears off the shaft, which causes the engine to overheat. First you want to remove the thermostat and then check the water pump. Follow the lower radiator hose to where it connects to the engine. That flange is where the thermostat is at. After you remove the thermostat you can shine a light in the hole and put your finger in there, if the impellar of the water pump moves, it needs to be replaced. If it does, then you might as well replace the timing belt and tensioner, seeing how you have to remove it to get the water pump off.
- Q: my water pump has gone south on me and I want to repair it myself any ideas on how to will be greatly appreciated, do to space between the water pump of the engine and the chasi or body of the van that makes working on thi vehicle kind of difficult any knoledgeable instruction will be welcome. thanks for the help. - Q: i have a 1996 camaro rs v6 that needs a new water pump, the old one is leaking from a failsafe type hole.i know that im probably not gonna get one but its simply the perfect time to so if i am so... but should i consider getting an electric water pump instead of the $50 origional replacement? the car has no 'real' mods and i know the electric water pump would be a two horse difference, and that it is a mostly race type modification. so i had to ask because if i was to do this mod, now is the time. so what do you think? things like average cost of a good name like meziere , how hard to wire, etc.thanks
- Not sure where your shopping, but I could have sworn water pumps were more than that at least the ones I buy. And yes, I do not buy aftermarket parts since I do not like replacing the same part over over again every month!!!!!!! I would advise you if you do not want to replace the engine down the road for overheating, I would stick with factory water pump leave the electric pump idea alone!!!!! Last time I checked on those, they were more than $50.00 also.

These are the so called jet pumps or deep well pumps wherein part of the output water is returned back to the bottom of the well pipe through the space between the outer pipe casing and the inner pipe and passed through a venturi opening to create an upward water jet which will push more water upward.

- if you cannot tell where the fluid is coming from, ...the pro's put dye in the fluid then use a black light and use gravity as the rule to find the leak. generally it is the seal that makes a water pump fail...which makes is leak out a weep hole. I think its a coincidence you changed the thermostat and the pump seal went out.
