- Q: i have to do a report on air brakes and i don‘t know what information to put on it!!im in the 9th grade and i need helpplease give me info on air brakes.
- Air brakes are used on vehicles above a certain weight. Air brakes are spring loaded, so that when there is no air pressure in the system, the spring locks the brakes, for parking. Then, when you [ charge ] the system, that means when you put air pressure into the lines, the pressure pushes the springs back to unlock the brakes. next when you press on the brake pedal, the air pressure is let into the back side of the brake chamber to close the brakes to stop your vehicle. then when you let off the pedal, the air bleeds out, releasing the brakes.
- Q: Relatively how much brake fluid will I need to bleed the system on a 97 Chevy S10 Blazer, 4dr., 4x4, 4.3L V6, to change out all the old brake fluid with fresh stuff? I can‘t find the capacity of the system anywhere. I just need a good amount/number to go with to make sure I have enough for the whole system. Thank you!
- in case you have lost that plenty brake fluid already in basic terms kneel down and check out the returned of each brake rotor deliver jointly, there will be a moist fluid everywhere in the single this is leaking, brake fluid in basic terms would not dry up so this is going to be quite difficulty-free to work out, then take off that wheel and examine that slave cylinder, and replace it or rebuild it with a kit from the aspects shop
- Q: The car is 30 minutes from my house and i want to drive it home. I heard the 1999 tracker comes with a dual braking system. Does that mean the other system is not affected by the one that is bad? Can i use the emrgency break as a back up to get home? I am nervous about the brakes giving out on me. Should I try that or stay away from doing it and tow the car instead? Thanks!
- ?? Dual braking system?!! Ummm. I think someone's pulling your leg on this one. But to be fair On your brake's master cylinder, there are 2 valves that control the brakes one for the front, one for the back. If there is a leak in the fluid line that goes to the front brakes the rear will still hold pressure and stop the vehicle. Also, the emergency brakes work by a cable, not fluid pressure. The emergency brakes will also stop the vehicle, But you'll have to be smooth with the hand lever Think of it as performing surgery with an axe! It can be done but with pinpoint accuracy.
- Q: Do I need brake fluid? It only happens when I come to a complete stop like a stop sign or traffic light, and then I press on the gas again. It doesn‘t last more than 30 seconds.
- If you need brake fluid, you need brake pads and or shoes replaced. When was the last time you had your brakes serviced? Here's why: The brake master cylinder is designed to hold just the right amount of brake fluid for your brake system. There are two things to note. 1) As the brake pads wear out, the calipers piston has to move farther out to press on the brake pads. As the piston moves farther out, the area behind the piston becomes filled with more fluid from the master cylinder, and the level of fluid in the master cylinder goes down. When the fluid level in the master cylinder gets too low, a light should come on indicating that your brake fluid is low. That does NOT mean you need to add brake fluid. It means your brake pads are VERY close to being worn out. 2) If you add brake fluid today, and have your brakes done tomorrow, when the mechanic compresses the caliper piston ALL the excess brake fluid is going to spill out of the master cylinder all over the engine compartment and make a huge mess. Not to mention ruining your car. Just a note: Brake fluid does not evaporate. So, unless you have a leak, NEVER add brake fluid. Have your brakes serviced.
- Q: I was talking to my friends today about this and one said to pull the emergency brake and another said to turn off the ignition??? which one is right???Thanks
- Almost all current cars have the braking system separated into two different parts, so if one fails the other two brakes are still operational. This will stop the car, but it will take more room. Also, you would NEVER turn the ignition off, as that would cut the power steering lock-up the steering wheel.
- Q: We have family visiting and they left their car at our place last year. They drove it today and noticed that the brake pedal was pulsating. They mentioned that it kinda felt as if the car had a flat but they only felt that sensation while pressing on the brakes. They haven‘t had this problem last year before they left but know they do. Can the braking system of a car go bad after not being used for a year? Its a 2000 Toyota Rav4.
- The rotors are unprotected steel, so in a year exposed to the elements it probably got covered by rust. For the braking problem. For the feeling of a flat, that's what it is. The tire got a flat spot on the bottom from sitting too long. After a while of driving it might go away but they probably should get new tires, or at least get the wheel balanced again.
- Q: Where could air be getting into brake system? Hardly, if any, rear braking.?
- I would make sure the rears are adjusted properly. If the star adjusters are not set right after a brake job the shoes will not touch the drums. Also ask the shop if they bench bled the master cylinder properly before they installed it. If the all of the air is not purged out of the master before the lines are attached, you will not be able to get all of the air out. Good Luck
- Q: To start with, the brake system is not the same on any other car so I need someone who knows about the trevis iii brake system WITH ABS.When I got the car the back brakes did not work but the front worked very well. The electric pump was bad so I changed that. The problem I am having is that I am not getting fluid from the master to the back brakes. I was told that there may be air in the master and that would make my brake spungie. this is not the case. My brake peddle is very hard. I can push it to the floor if I push vary hard but i still do not have fluid coming out of the master for the back brakes. I can not get a new master. but I have a second master I can pull parts from. (This master will not work due to a striped thread.) So if I pull them both apart can I make one good master? I have herd of people changing from the abs to non/abs. would that work better? Or is this normal if there is air in the master and I should just try to bleed it?
- a manual transmission does not use transmission fluid. It uses oil of the viscosity the manufacturer says to use. You should have a drain plug and a fill plug on the tranny case.
- Q: uh oh! what happens if i accidentally put power steering fluid in my brake system ?
- Do not EVER put power steering or transmission fluid in a brake Master Cylinder. Power steering fluid is petroleum based, and will cause every rubber part in your braking system to deteriorate. If you have not driven the vehicle, IMMEDIATELY flush out the braking system with denatured alcohol. Even then, it may be to late. I have had the sad duty to inform more than one confused and upset driver that he or she now must spend 1000 or more dollars to correct this problem. This is the worst thing you (or most likely, a shade-tree mechanic) can do to your brakes. If your system is contaminated, the least you can get away with replacing is: 1: Master Cylinder 2: all flexible brake hoses 3: Calipers and/or wheel cylinders 4: possibly (though not always) proportioning and measuring valves. Make sure the steel brake lines are flushed out with denatured alcohol. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but you simply cannot substitute ps or trans fluid for brake fluid. It is possible to put brake fluid in your power steering system with no ill effects, which is where this confusion started.
- Q: I think my abs is acting up. At low speed I can feel and hear it grinding. I drive an 02 pontiac grnd prix. Any ideas on how much that‘s gonna cost to fix?
- do you have the ABS light on. It is normal for the ABS system to pulsate when you are pressing on the brakes harshly. If there is no ABS light it should be preforming correctly.
