- Q:They‘re always jackknifing and sheet. Whats up with that? My 1989 BMW motorcycle has anti-lock brakes, but brand new semis go around rolling on top of Miatas for no reason. So, wtf is going on, mang?
- All new trucks are now required to have anti lock brake systems. Some manufacturers have been installing them for several years but the reason they're still jackknifing is that the law only went into effect one year ago so there are still a lot of trucks out there without ABS.
- Q:I know that the silver wing has 3 piston front and a 2 piston rear. I only have one hand (sill have my right hand) but I still like to ride and I want to buy one. So My question is that I want to put the back brake on the left side and the front brake on the right side. I know this can but done I just want to know how to do it and what parts I will need to do it. So where are all the motorcycle mechanics at !!
- The front brake is already on the right side handlebar Ride Safe
- Q:I'm new to motorcycles, and don't know a lot. I've always been a fan and I am finally buying my first one, but I don't have anybody to teach me a lot of the basics. I just recently got the basics of gear shifting up and down, but I don't know how to go from say fifth to first or fourth second , if I need to rapidly slow down or make an extreme stop.I understand that neutral is right after first, can I jump from 1st past neutral to 2nd.I also would like to know the rpm range I should be in for the different gears 1st 2nd 3rd etc.Plus a side question. When I go to one of these schools to get my endorsement, do I have to bring my own bike? or do they usually provide one? meaning do I have to trailer my bike there?I know it's a lot to take in, but this is coming from a person who has very little experience, so helpful answers would be greatly appreciated.
- you can jump to anywhere in the gearbox in no paritcular order you can go up and down gears in two or whatever BUT if in doubt go up a gear as for instance going from 5 to 1st without slowing down is going to lock your back wheel as your bike tries to go several thousand revs over the redline (which it will eventually resist) and then it will try to throw you off Also 1st is a hard gear to drop into - it is so low - try and stay in second and then stop and drop to first after. try to go around gears in second too resist dropping into first.
- Q:I previously posted a question about my front brakes squeaking but have since figured out that it is my rear brakes. Is this something I need to have checked out immediately? Are there things I can check?1983 Honda Magna V45
- is it a disc brake? if so take out the pads and put a smear of copperslip on the back, that should sort it, if they are drum brakes take rthe shoes out and just take the leading edge off with a file, you dont need to talke off much, just give it a bit of an angle. cheers
- Q:i changed the pads and bled the brakes in my motorcycle. why aren‘t they opening?
- They dont release enough hardly to tell is the wheel locked ?
- Q:a high performance road bike with disc brakes appeals to me, a bike I would not race and would put in a couple hundred miles a week witham I insane?
- Based on my previous years of experience disc brakes on bicycles are used for one of two reasons. One, because the amount of stopping power required is more than can be generated by standard pad-on-rim designs. Sometimes a 'drum' style brake is used instead (Ala rear tandem brakes). The second reason is if the riding conditions a bicycle is likely to be ridden are muddy, wet or messy which would tend to 'gum' up a standard caliper style brake (anybody that's tried to stop a mountain bike that has just completed a messy creek crossing can understand this perfectly). That is why many mountain bikes -- and I suppose some cycle cross bicycles -- use disc brakes instead of calipers. For the most part I tend to think that road bicycles would not have either of these issues as there generally is not enough weight (or mass) to require the stopping power of a disc brake nor is a road bike likely to encounter muddy or messy enough conditions to warrant a caliper brake useless. Furthermore, and I'm certainly no physicist, but given the relatively small amount of tire patch touching the road surface at any given time it would seem to me the sheer stopping power of disc brake may cause the wheels to just lock up rendering the bicycle uncontrollable. No, I'd just as soon stick with my calipers on my road bike than take that chance with disc brakes.
- Q:Regular parts suppliers have things like replacement headlight bulbs. I need a source for the complete motorcycle headlamp assembly that I can utilize in my design. I also need to be able to buy in bulk to sell multiple units.Items needed: headlight assembly, turn signals, turn signal switch, brake light assembly, electric brake light switch (turning brake light on as brake handle is depressed, not hydraulic).I‘m looking for modern styled parts that I can incorporate into custom molded composite fairings.Thank you for your answers!
- Jeff, For your prototype vehicle, just use parts from a motorcycle wrecking yard. You'll save money and not be out as much in the long run. Some of the current touring fairings are about as aerodynamic as you can get If you plan to run two front wheels, a hydraulic braking system will be lighter and easier to build, not to mention you can incorporate all brakes into a single hydraulic foot operated unit. Be sure to use double flares on steel lines for safety.
- Q:New car, but 3,000 km, neighborhoods to teach a good way to care for the car friends want to talk about each other!
- More oil, rain do not open
- Q:How do I adjust the brakes on the motorcycle?
- Motorcycle hydraulic disc brake is not tune, because the whole system is not a adjustment screw. Cause the brakes are particularly tight reasons are: brake hydraulic piston card does not have the resilience or brake the master cylinder plunger card, to solve only the replacement.
- Q:some one sold me sold me a scooter and i want to know if i got ripped off. the front brake works geat the back barley works
- The back brake is the most important brake. If you use the front brake, then that locks the front wheel which is the one you steer with so you loose steering control. Basically you use the brakes depending on what speed you are doing. If you are going a slow speeds you only use the back brake to slow down as you still keep control over the steering. At higher speeds you use more and more front brake, but the ratio rarely exceeds 50:50. If you use the front brake without the back brake not only do you loose steering control, but because the back wheel is still spinning then it is propelling the bike forward so you can end up skidding and coming off it. I would replace the brake pads immediately. If you don't know how to do this get a book like Haynes motorcycle maintenance Techbook as it has detailed instructions and will save you a lot of money. I wouldn't say you were ripped off. Because the back brake is used more than the front, it wears faster. If you buy anything second hand then you have to anticipate that it will break down sooner or later.
