Q:What is a water pump for?
It is to compress the gas and let out the liquid, such as the bottled water in the life, and to compress the air with a pump to make the water run out
Q:After I replaced the water pump impeller in my outboard I fired up the motor and now its not pumping any water through the pee-hole at all and also the prop is spinning in the neutral position (motor seems as if it is in gear and trying to move). Would this be because of the shift rod or the drive shaft not being in the proper position and possibly the impeller is being span the wrong in the impeller housing cup?
First the impeller -- did you find all of the old one, or are a couple of vanes missing? When you disassemble to put on a new impeller, you must account for all of the old one -- pieces like to be pushed by water into the cooling passages. I like a thin stiff springy wire to run through the pee-hole and up into toe water pickup tube. If you can blow air through the tubes, they aren't blocked. Did you put the impeller on upside down? It only works one way -- as it spins, the outer ends of the vanes should follow the vane, not lead it. When you reassemble, you must get the gear set aligned properly -- When it's assembled properly, the prop will be locked in forward and reverse but will freewheel in neutral. You must turn the blade so the flat of the clutch dog faces up, with the shifter in neutral, as you assemble it. Try it a couple times, you'll figure it out.
Q:Hi, my water pump isn't working in my rover 400i V reg 99 model......does anyone know where under my bonet this is located and whether it's easy done at home?
water pumps are never an easy fix. most the time you have to take the fan off, and the radiator as well so a person has room to work. MOST water pumps are in front of the motor, towards the bottom. If you follow your radiator hoses you will find it.
Q:I want to know the disadvantages of a wind powered water pump and if you have any questions you would ask to someone presenting to you about a wind powered water pump(They should be really hard and smart questions) please include them in your answer. Thanks in advance.
The disadvantage is that it will not work with no wind. I would ask: 1. expected life 2. maintenance cost 3. capacity (liters/hour) at the mean wind speed on installation site 4. height it can pump the water (so that I can check the possibility of having a reservoir for the no wind period)
Q:what makes pump come on every 10 seconds when water is on
Most likely the check-valve is failing to stop flow back to the well. Replace the check valve. It's the metal cylinder just between the pump and the water pipe coming to it from the well.
Q:What is the difference between a low pressure pump and a high pressure pump?
High pressure pump head, large power! High pressure pump, low pressure pump has no strict limit
Q:mechanic says the bearings are going on the pump, and they might as well replace the thermostat while they are there.my question is he right?do they have to remove the engine to replace either the pump or the thermostat?seems like a lot of $ for a what should be a simple job ($450).thanks for your help!
If you have the 3.4L V6 the water pump is a simpler job to replace than the one on the 4 cylinder motor. The thermostat on the V6 is in a very tight spot, next to the exhaust pipe. I am unsure about the difficulty of the thermostat replacement on the 4 cyl.
Q:I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu with 123xxx miles on it. I notice coolant being leaked on the floor heavily and my car gets hot driving. It leaks when the car is on and stops when it is off. Could it be a water pump? What r the signs of a bad water pump?
Doubt it is the water pump, it is more likely the lower intake manifold gaskets are leaking. This is a common issue on the 3.1L Malibu. NOTE: DON'T drive it like this, you may do serious damage to the engine. Better take it in for a Cooling system pressure test.
Q:Work done in water pumping?Water is to be brought from a well 60 meters bellow ground level to a tower 10 meters high, once there the water falls freely on a 5000 liter tank. A submerged pump 10 meters under water level and a two inch diameter pipe is to be used. What is the work done by the pump when 2000 liters have been served to the tank; what is the power of a pump selected to do this work in 20 minutes.
Power_W = (Mass_kg * Gravity_m/s/s * Height_m) / time_s Where: Mass kg is 1kg/l of 2000 liters Gravity is 9.81m/s/s Head is 60m + 10m (height). The suction head is ignored because the pump is submerged. In practice there is some suction head due to intake restrictions like pipes, check valves, strainers. The time is 20 minutes in seconds. The work is the energy used in the time allocated, which is: power * time in seconds, which is watt seconds = joules. Not needed here as it is in the formula above. Power is the rate of doing work. The depth below water is not really relevant except for pipe losses which increase the head slightly. The flow is 2000 liters/20 minutes = 100 l/min. This can be used with the head of 70m to determine the pipe restriction, which amounts to a pressure drop representing extra head added. It will indicate whether the pipe is too small (excessive head added) or whether the pipe is overkill (no head added). You can find on line calculators for this, e.g. search pipe resistance flow on line calculator. I am guessing a 2 inch pipe has little loss at this flow. This is the so called water power. It is the output power of the pump. The pump may only be 50% or so efficient, so the mechanical power delivered by the motor needs to be greater by this ratio. The electrical input power to the motor is greater again to allow for motor efficiency. This might be 60-90%. In practice the efficiency of pump and motor are determined from user manual or specification of the actual devices with the actual loads (head and flow).
Q:My water pump in my pontiac bonneville 99 went bad, and while I was in the navy, in aviation fuels, some of my job consisted of repairing pumps and valves, and rebiulding them all together, and this water pump from my car seems to have some of the same features of previos pumps i've worked on, usualy when i use to repair pumps, most of the time i just replaced the bearings, just wondering if its do-able, im looking for the cheapist way to fix this, the casing for the pump seems to be in very good condition, but havent got it out of my car yet, im short on tools right now for the moment... thanks in advance for any help...
Don't bother. Water pumps fail on this motor all the time and replacements are plentiful and cheaper than dirt. I won't even use rebuilt water pumps in my shop - we only install new ones because they are much more reliable and the cost difference is literally only a couple of bucks.
