- Q: My cat got sick a year ago and repeatedly urinated in a corner of a room. The cat is now gone, but I still can smell it sometimes, especially when it's humid. I've shampooed the area probably 15 times and used various enzyme shampoos, treatments. I don't have the money to replace the carpet. I am assuming that the urine is on the pad and flooring. How do I go about cleaning the flooring underneath and replacing the pad, etc. Should I clean the underside of the carpet or just lay in a spare piece?
- Urine can soak through the carpet, down into the pad and subfloor, so surface treatments don't help. Try an enzyme cleaner, such as Nature's Miracle, and use a whole lot of it so that it soaks all the way down to where the urine odor is. If that doesn't work, you may have to cut out that corner of carpet and pad, clean the subfloor (soak with an enzyme cleaner, let dry, and then paint with a sealer), and then have a carpet layer install a new piece of pad and carpeting.
- Q: I'm planning on helping my dad put some new carpet in our family room. We measured it and its ABOUT 13.5ft by 13.5ft. Any body know how much that would run for? And our current carpet is the very thin outdoor/indoor carpet. Its ugly and needs to go.

- Q: Which rug should I get?
- If your walls are white / creame / a neutral color get the Herringbone Rug as you need something to accent the color. If you have a wall that is purple, pink, blue, green, red etc. and you have a lot of stuff in your room get the Zigag Rug, it wont make the room too busy, but it will compliment it as well as give it length/width (whichever way you place it). - Q: Does anyone know anything about Indo Bijar rugs. I bought a 6x9 Indo Bijar rug today for next to nothing and am curious about its value. It has a tag on it from a profesional rug repair shop in Dallas ( the tag just says indo bijar 6x9 clean and replace fringe) It's in great shape and was hoping to resell at our yardsale but not sure about the value. I found two similar rugs on Craigs list, one was $4,000 and the other was for $600.
- Hi, Value of a rug depends various factors 1.)Whether it is hand made or not? A) If hand made is it hand knotted or hand tufted? I am assuming that it is hand knotted, then the value depends on knots per square inch, the quality of the wool, the design, the worksmanship and finally the size. One more thing, carpet retailer often make this mistake; there is no such thing as 'BIJAR' its Bidjar. Indo-Bidjar rugs are usually made of 10x10 or 11x11 quality and this will have a retail value of 50-60 USD per SQ FT. Your rug has a square footage of 54 making its price fall in the range of 2700-3240 USD. Again, this is based on my assumptions. This is the fair value retail price. Now, some retailers like to keep a higher listing price and then give occasional discounts while some retailers do not like to do so. So its possible that some one might sell the same stuff for USD 4000. The 600 Dollar rug cannot be hand knotted. It must be hand tufted or something, as for this amount the rug is sold in India and when when add to this the retailers, wholesalers, importers margins; the price increases dramatically. If you can upload a picture of the rug, with a close up of the back side of the rug as well , I can provide you with much more information on its make as well as expected retail value.

- Hi there, My most favorite rug cleaner is Spot Shot. I've removed most stains (grease, oil, dirt and wine!) from wool or synthetic rugs. It's awesome stuff! - If it's that soaked, it will all have to come up anyway. If it was a decent carpeting job, it will have a foam underpadding and that will be soaked as well. Don't know where you're at, but around here we have a company called Servpro that handles such problems, even works with your insurance company to help get it paid for. There may be wicking occurring with the wall coverings as well, if there's drywall involved. I'd suggest looking in the yellow pages for a fire/flood restoration company that could help.

- Q: My puppy decided to chew the carpet going from my living room into my kitchen (which is laminate). Unfortunately, my attempts thus far have just made things worse. I was trying to put a transition piece in, but could not get it to stick since beneath the carpet is just concrete. My lease is up in 3 weeks and I'm getting a bit panicked. I read online that you can take a piece of carpet from a closet and use that piece to seam to ripped carpet, then grab some similar carpet from the store to replace the closet area. Any suggestions to make this process go easier? I think I just need a tack strip and some special tape that I get from lowes. Any other suggestions?
- to repair your carpet, you will need a carpet knife,level or square to guide your cutting.,double sided carpet tape, tape measure, first measure out the area you need, make sure it is prepped by squaring the area off, in a corner in the closet remove a section needed for your repair job. sweep or vac the area, place your double tape down,place your carpet on top and if you have a rolling pin, roll over the carpet to make it lay down and seal to the tape. you can pick up same carpets and replace the one in the closet.

- try putting rugs on them. It might make it look better. Get the rug color you want and try putting them around your apartment. And try not to put things that look interesting on the floor. Cause people will see it and they'll see your carpets.
