Q: I vacuum every day with a kirby sentria. I read somewhere that vacuuming daily can ruin your carpet, but I haven't had a problem (yet). Supposedly it'll wear out the carpet sooner? I use the correct settings for my carpet. We have a 3 year old, a dog, and 3 cats, the thought of vacuuming even every other day kind of sickens me when I think about how many crumbs and how much hair can build up in the carpet lol.Is it okay to vacuum daily? Not gonna have to replace the carpet every 3 years if I do it that way?
It's true that it will wear the carpet down because vacuums have beater brushes slamming against them every time you run it. However it's a necessary thing that can't be avoided. Carpets also break down from walking on them and dirt debris getting ground into them. Buy a better quality carpet and just as importantly a better quality padding and you won't have to worry about how much you vacuum. A good carpet should last 15 years or more.
Q: I recently rented a condo and the carpets were filthy. Used my Bissell in February and March to clean it. It looks better, but I still see dirt stains. Is it safe to shampoo it once a month until its clean?
vinegar is my number one tip and I cant see how it will damage your cleaner as you do have to put the vinegar in water just as you would a carper cleaner soap. Vinegar is a food and most of us consume vinegar. Actually if there is too much soap in your carpet the vinegar will work against the soap and gradually the dirty soap will leave your carpet. All you need is vinegar and warm water. I put vinegar in my automatic washing machine for the final rinse it does the job of the more expensive fabric conditioners even the whites and I never wash my black and denim and very dark colours in soap as eventually it leaves little white spots of soap on the clothes. I wash my dark clothes and denim in vinegar and for the rest I put it in the final rinse. Vinegar is also the best thing to clean your microwave. Just put a dollop of vinegar in a microwaveable bowl of water and turn on the microwave for 5 minutes. Then remove the bowl from your microwave as the vinegar in the steam will of loosened all dirt in your microwave then squeeze out your dish cloth and wipe the inside of the microwave and the dirt just disappears onto your cloth. 2 seconds and my microwave is clean and dont discard the vinegar water untill after you have finished cooking as it will absorb all the cooking smells from your kitchen.. Vinegar is also good for sunburn even on children. I bought a book called the vinegar book and their are 1000s of things you can use vinegar for including a gargle for sore throats provided it is diluted with water of course so I would advise anyone to buy themselves a copy of the vinegar book Vinegar is a disinfectant and I only buy the cheapest bottle I can see on the supermarket shelf and it works the same as the dear stuff. One last important thing although I put vinegar in my bath water in hospital after an operation please keep it away from the eyes. And one last thing vinegar is a disinfectant But it must be kept away from the eyes.
Q: I am moving to an apartment that has hardwood floors. I've never had area rugs before, someone mentioned I would need one in my living room at least..?Thanks
Though it is not necessary, rugs add a nice design touch to your space and help define an area. They add color and warmth. I think a room would look a bit bare without them. Your choice.
Q: whats a good inexpensive stream cleaner that will make my carpet look like new again! we moved into our apartment almost a year ago and it was a very rainy muddy day, ever since my carpets have just been plain nasty looking, its only the livingroom and diningroom though. What can i get that will actually work
I decided last year to do that very thing and researched carpet steamers and scrubbers on Consumer reports. Their finding was that NO home carpet cleaner was even close to the cleaning power of the rental steam cleaners that can be rented at grocery and pharmacies. (They did advise to inspect closely for worn or dirty units). But beyond that - they said that having Stanley Steemer out was far beyond the cleaning of the rentals. That's what I did, and I have to agree, having used both rental steamers and an older home carpet scrubber at our own home and on rental property carpets.
Q: Does scrubbing the carpet floor work?Question Details:Right now, my dad is scrubbing the carpet with a carpet cleaner.Well, he is applying the liquid and scrubbing over it and drying it.Does that damage the carpet? He's not even using the machine and the carpet still looks dirty.I think that using that carpet machine is better but my dad doesn't find it necessarySo?.
I had this problem with the carpet in my lounge. I foolishly cleaned the carpet by hand, but it meant I overwet the carpet so all the dirt that'd worked down into the underlay got wet and then squished itself up and through to the carpet (the previous house owners had 2 children who spilt many drinks!). After a week it looked worse than before I'd started cleaning it.
Q: I'm trying to find a bright sky blue rug that's about 3 feet by 5 feet. Hopefully for less than 50 bucks?
wal-mart is usually a pretty good bet, i've found a lot of area rugs there for $20-$25. if you're looking for brighter colors though i'd try for Target...they tend to have some really bright colors in the dorm-kinda furnishing areas.
Q: What kinds of carpets hold up well with kids and pets. We have berber now, and it seems to trap stains and pet odor than typical carpet. Any suggestions?
Nylon Carpeting Olefin Carpeting Wool Carpeting
Q: I recently moved and in my old place I noticed that my rug stained the linoleum. Now that I have moved, I really want to take care of my new place and was wondering if there is any way to prevent this staining?
There are a few types out there ,but the one I m familar with is calles Rug Hold.. It s a thin rubberymat you put under your rugs to hold them down and wont react w/ your vinyl like the backing is know to your vinyl.. Ashphalt drives are a big problem (tracking in the oils) because the petroleum based products react w/ each other and causes the yellow stains you see.. Check any product like this and get the 1 for your needs.. They make them for wood and carpet etc The nice thing is they can be tossed in washer when they do lose tackeyness and be renewedGL
Q: Difference in rugs and carpets?
A rug is something you lay down on a floor and is easy to change where as carpet covers the whole surface area and is more permanent. As for the texture or substance of the material there isn't much difference :)
Q: last night i left the top of the cage open for my hamster. he climbed out and chewed loads of holes in the carpet. is there a cheap way to patch or replace the carpet
Wow that sounds just like what my puppy did,but of course they were way bigger.I really hate to contradict everyone else who answered but they were only half right. Cutting patches from inconspicuous areas is the right thing to do but using glue isn't. If it were they would install carpeting in houses using glue. You wont see that happening ever unless it was outside carpeting for a patio.Reason is it wouldn't be on there very long with traffic due to people walking on it, and use from the vacuum cleaner. The glue would not hold. That is why they sew carpet when they have to use two separate pieces to finish a room. Or to patch it. If you will be happy with the temporary fix and don't mind doing it over in about two weeks then go for it. If not you will need to sew your little patches. I sewed mine as I could not afford new carpet but couldn't stand to see it with holes in it. Either way, I hope it works out for you.
