- Total replacement cost is NOT the same thing as matching. I have State Farm, and I pay extra for matching - which also wouldn't likely include hallway carpet, unless it runs from a room WITHOUT a door, like a living room. Go ask your agent if 'matching' is available in your state.

- I would reccomend taking it to a professional antique restorer. It would suck to mess up something that is that important to you. Also, the dyes may be natural-made dyes, and might be damaged if you used chemicals on it.
