Q: Last night we found our basement carpet soaked after a rainstorm---there was not standing water (until we pulled up the carpet and padding), but it was set enough to squish when you walk, etc. We pulled up the carpet and threw away the padding. We've been trying to dry it out with a fan, but it doesn't seem to be helping. What steps should we take to save the carpet? We really can't afford to replace it right now. Also, we live in Colorado, and there is almost no humidity. Thanks!
You don't salvage it, you throw it away! Mildew begin's soon after the water came in. You may not see the dampness, but when a pipe broke in my basement, a guy came with a meter was able to tell me where the wetness was even the walls had to come down. You need a dehumidifier no matter where you live! Good Luck!
Q: Which rug should I get?
If your walls are white / creame / a neutral color get the Herringbone Rug as you need something to accent the color. If you have a wall that is purple, pink, blue, green, red etc. and you have a lot of stuff in your room get the Zigag Rug, it wont make the room too busy, but it will compliment it as well as give it length/width (whichever way you place it). If you have a colored wall (eg the colors above) but a fairly empty space go for the Stamped Scallop Rug as it is will make the room a little more busy. Good luck!
Q: Me couple of friends are looking to get carpet to do up a quot;cubby housequot;. Crap carpet seems to be 90 to 100 dollars per broadloom metre new. Obviously it does not have to very good quality. Is there any wayyy cheaper solution to this? (South of Perth, Western Australia)
Go for it, It sounds fab... :)
Q: is there a laundry with big boy washers to wash a rug?
no she has wall to wall carpet and has washed all her laundry her house is very clean
Q: A bottle of gorilla glue spilt on the carpet (the kind that dries white) I can't get it off without tearing the carpet up...and I live in an apartment. Do I have to rip the carpet out or is there a way of getting it off. If I have to rip the carpet out how do I replace that patch?
I recommend renting a carpet steamer and running the spot over a few dozen times, if that doesn't work then you might need to patch it, alternatively any Non-bleach cleaner (Unless your carpet is white) and a lot of elbow grease has never been known to hurt
Q: my carpet is dirty it has stains and needs a good cleaning what can i use in a shampooer to clean it
You can rent a shampooer at any store or buy one at wally world. When you do shampoo, remember to rinse afterwards. The instructions may say let dry then vacuum but don't believe it. It always leaves it sticky and will stain more. Rinse a couple of times to make sure.
Q: What are the types of Persian rugs?
i'm persian and living in iran but i'm not a rug seller and cant help u more
Q: My vacuum cleaner picks up large amounts of powder every time I vacuum. The powder color is light grey and I am worried it may cause health issues for my family.I had the carpet professionally cleaned twice, but the powder is still there. What could it be? Should I have it lab tested? Please help!!
its just dust. That's why carpet isnt good to have in closed places or just generally in your house. It holds in lots of dust and pet hair and other stuff in the air that settles. Its most likely nothing toxic but it can have negative effects on health in the long run like shortness of breath. best advice...save up some money and remove the carpet and put tiles or hardwood flooring (easier to maintain too) Or you could vacuum like twice a week (at least).
Q: ive been searching for a simpsons rug to finish off my son,s bedroom and am having problems finding one ,can anyone please help
If his room is all Simpsons maybe just look for a rug that has the colors of one of the characters or something that way it won't be over kill on all the Simpsons stuff you know, like if you have walls with Simpsons and furniture or decor with Simpsons adding a rug with Simpsons may be a bit much where as if you just put a cool Marge's hair color blue rug or A simpson skin toned yellow rug it might pull it all together better, just a thought :)
Q: I've just moved into a beautiful older home (125 years) and, although it's been recently re-wired, there just isn't always an outlet where I need it. I live with my elderly mother and do not want to take a chance that she might trip over a cord. When I do short tasks like ironing or vacuuming, can I slip the excessive cord under a rug so that she will not encounter it with her feet. She is absolutely sure that I'll burn the house down - and she's incredibly intelligent, but I'd like to hear from a real fire prevention expert.Thank you for your expertise - I think that safety is essential - paranoia is a bit much, though!
