- Q: I dropped some candle wax on the carpet... How do I get it out?
- Often wax on carpet is just on the very tips of the fibers. If this is the case you can just snip the wax off with sharp scissors. Just cut the very tips of the fibers. Work slowly. Don't cut a single millimeter more than you have to and pull up while cutting. This will help prevent divots in the carpet. Try your best to do just one or two fibers at a time...not a whole clump. Dissect any wax clumps first by cutting them in half or thirds, so that you separate clumps. This will work unless you have already used an iron or otherwise melted the wax further in to the carpet. Also...cutting the wax off will work on shag or plush carpet, but not Berber or loopy carpet. Good luck. -

- spray carpet cleaner and a stiff brush and if it doesn't come clean enough for you dye the carpets. For leather go to autozone or pepboys and get a cleaner for leather and then put on a leather protector.
- Q: I have a carpet that I am having removed in order to install hardwood floors. The carpet itself is only about a year old and still in very good condition. (If we didn't have pets we would probably keep it.) We have another house we would like to put the carpet in, but would only like to do so in the form of an area rug. - I've done this twice. I took a wall to wall carpet and put in a smaller room wall to wall again. I just had to pay for the labor. The second rug I had bound on all four sides and used it as an area rug. They charge by the foot to bind it and I don't remember what it cost, but I was glad I did it.

- not meaning to be rood but have you tried looking where you are going, or maybe removing the rugs from your house?? on a more serious note, the edges of rugs can become uneven or frayed and can poke up the way leading to tripping so replace old rugs before this happens
