- Q: I want to get a rug to put under my dinning room table but I'm not sure what kind would be best. I have three small kids.
- Grandinroad and Frontgate catalogs offer indoor/outdoor rugs that are absolutely beautiful and can be cleaned by simply taking them outside and hosing them down. They are inexpensive and soft to the touch and come in patterns from traditional oriental looks to contemporary. I started by buying one for my outdoor deck but since have added them to my foyers and study. I get qreat compliments on them. No one knows unless I tell them they are so indestructible and easy to clean. You can check with both of these companies on line as well.
- Q: I have a smooth wood floor, and I just bought a rug without the rubber or weaved backing and it seems to slip around on the floor. Does anyone have any cheap suggestions that they know actually work to keep it from slipping all over my living room?Thanks!
- Go to you local hardware/home improvement store and pick up some of the rubber backing. They sell it in rolls by itself. Cut it to shape to fit your rug. It may be in the shelving area, because they also sell it to keep dishes and things from sliding off shelves. Double-sided carpet tape also works, but it can kill your wood floor.
- Q: What color of the tablecloth match well with blue carpet?

- Q: My son got orange marker on our carpet, (which is the longer strand kind). I went to my old standby stain remover of vinegar baking soda which I've never had any issues with until now. Now the orange marker is gone but I have a fairly large spot that's now much lighter than the rest of the carpet! And the spot cannot be easily covered and is in a very visible place. Please help!
- Most carpet is made from nylon or polyester, and the color is inside the fiber -- if you bleached a lighter spot with baking soda and vinegar (very weak acid), I opine that what you really did was clean grime from the carpet - it's almost impossible to bleach color out of hard synthetic fiber. Try renting a carpet cleaning machine from the grocery or tool rental store, and put some vinegar in with the hot water and detergent. Won't hurt the carpet, and might resolve the problem. If your carpet is very old or very expensive, it might be wool, but very little wool carpet can be found anymore -- it's just too expensive.
- Q: Okay, so i spilled sweet and sour sauce all over my living room carpet today. I grabbed a bottle of Zout and started spraying it all over the spot, grabbed some paper towel, rubbed the carpet and dabbed the liquid up. then i sprayed febreze and vaccuumed it. YET THERE IS A REALLY NOTICABLE WHITE SPOT!!! almost like i overcleaned the carpet. the carpet around it is quite dirty, and now there is that one clean spot! what did i do wrong? will this go away? also is it going to smell bad? how do i prevent it from smelling bad?
- Is the zout you used for carpet? I ask, because I have never seen zout carpet cleaner, only zout stain remover for clothes. Carpet cleaners will state to try it on an inconspicuous spot to make sure it won't remove the color from you carpet. You may want to rent a steam cleaner at a local store, they work really well, and then your spot probably won't be noticeable at all. It shouldn't smell after you steam clean it either, it will make the whole room smell fresh and clean. Good luck.
- Q: I am having new vinyl flooring installed in the bathroom and I know that rubber or latex backed rugs can stain the floor yellow. Any suggestions? Thanks!
- Have you considered a foam backed bamboo rug? This won't yellow the floor and it won't slip and slide either. A rug with no backing is NOT a good idea in a bathroom. As for a rubber backed rug, if you only leave it on the floor when you use it after a shower or bath and keep it on the rim of the tub the rest of the time, it will take years and years and years before the flooring is yellowed... It's leaving it on the floor all the time that yellow the flooring...
- Q: i have two cats thats hate being locked out of my room and when they are they scratch at the carpet so now there is a bald spot under the door.is there any way i can fix this without replacing the carpet on the whole floor?
- The size of the iron makes bigger pieces easier to attach; somewhere at least 12 inches by 12 inches is easy, but smaller is trickier.
