Q: I'm thinking of buying a shag rug similar to this type. I have 2 boys and a dog...so it will need to be steam cleaned every now and then. There's loads of people seriously injured every year due to them stepping on a rug only to have it slip from under them. If you must have them, I would suggest that you glue something rubber-based on the base of the mat. Possibly a silly idea, but what about some stick on replacement soles for shoes? They're rubber, and they even come with the glue!

Q: I want to put a rug down in the middle of my living room that has laminate wood floor. I have a couple of larger dogs that tend to run aound on occasion. The current rug has a smooth back and slides when they skid to a stop on it. The replacements that I've looked at all have the jute back and I'm concerned that when they cause this type to slide across the floor, over time it will behave like sandpaper and scuff the floor. Or if your really brave and have some extra carpet left over, take a utility knife and cut the area of material out that was burned. Use the area of carpet you cut out as your 'template to cut the new piece of rug out. Hot glue the new piece in place. Purchase a good quality glue stick at your local hardware store (not the craft quality glue sticks). Also check with your carpet installer, they will also do the repair by removing the spot and bond it in place.
