- Q: My fiance's 2002 Cougar is overheating and we can't seem to diagnose the problem. As soon as she touches the gas pedal, the meter shoots to quot;Hquot;, but when we sit at a red light, it returns to center. I tried googling a few things and I've gotten a few things about the water pump, but I know next to nothing about cars. Where is it so I can look at it and feel dumb about STILL not being able to do anything? =D
- Leave the water pump alone! It sounds to me like your gauge is malfunctioning. Every so often an electrical gauge will fail and give strange readings. It could either be the sensor that reads your coolant temp or the gauge body itself. Your car cannot go from overheating to fine while stationary at a red light. Take it to a shop (that specializes in electrical, they're out there) and tell them the temp gauge is acting wacky. If you INSIST to know the location of your water pump...should be on the passenger side of the car mounted to the engine. It's either driven by an accessory belt or the timing belt, I can't remember at the moment. Here's a trick also. Water pumps are designed to leak when they fail. See if you can find coolant spilling out of anywhere a few ounces at a time. Good luck!
- Q: are there any pumps that can save energy more? Environmental protection is necessary and the price is not high.
- Water pump. ( Pond ) Sump pump. ( Flood prevention ) Auto water pump. ( Radiator ) What is the specific purpose of the pump.
- Q: I want to build a portable, working steam room display for trade shows. I need to feed water from a storage tank to a steam generator when it's called for. How can I do this? Is there a type of water pump that would work for this?
- Be careful what you buy. Most aquarium pumps are AIR pumps. Why not just use a siphon? As long as the storage tank is higher than the generator it will work. Get a hose or plastic tubing of the size you need, put one end in the tank. Suck on the tubing to start flow. To stop flow just pinch off the pipe or raise the spout above the water level. you might even install a valve if the tubing is large enough.
- Q: vw tells me the pump is defective, bad water circulation. i noticed the fans did not turn on when it began to overheat. is that irrelevant with the pump being defective? i even drop the car cold(i started the engine and drove) within 10mins it began to overheat, but the fans did not turn on. is it just the pump? the fan switch is new, no fuses are blown. the radiator and fans are less than 2 yrs old. 2000 jetta
- if the fan doesnt turn on, check the fan relay and the fan fuse.
- Q: What is a water pump for?
- Providing kinetic energy to increase the flow of liquid to an energy increasing device for required head and flow
- Q: My friend wants to buy a 90's somethin dodge avenger.( not sure what year) and the guy says the water pump is bad. Does the car have to be re timed when u replace the water pump?
- There is no connection between the water pump and the timing. Timing is a function of the engine ignition system, water pumps are part of the cooling system. There is no relationship. The water pump is driven by the belt that drives all the other engine accessories. Changing a water pump does not in any way effect timing.
- Q: I think the water pump in my Oceanic BioCube is going up. What is a good brand that would be compatible? It is 29 gallons. Thanks.
- If okorder or just your local pet store and see if you can't buy a pump with a similar/same output.
- Q: WHERE IS THE WATER PUMP LOCATED ON A 1995 HONDA CIVIC
- Hello, okorder
- Q: We had a thunderstorm followed by power outage last night, this morning I went to use the water and it slowly went dead.I began by inspecting the pressure tank and pressure control switch, then found the outside water pump breaker was tripped, upon resetting the water was back on!But wait, after about 1-2 minutes of use there was a small quot;POPand smoke from the control switch and the breaker tripped again. It seems now that every time the water pump kicks in I've got a 50/50 shot of the circuit breaker blowing. I'm not sure what to do now, I don't want to keep resetting my pump breaker, we really didn't get that much rain so I don't know what would be causing this issue?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
- So, you say you have a 50/50 chance of the water pump's breaker popping out when you use it now. I would assume you mean when you've used it enough to make the pump come back on. Actually, I think I'd start by replacing the pressure switch, regardless of which system you have, submersible or above ground, the pressure switch will be where it can be serviced. I really can't think of any reason why a pressure switch would cause a breaker to trip, but at least that way you'd know you've done all you can do. If your system is a submersible you'll have to have a water company come out with a boom truck to pull that pump up out of the ground.
- Q: i am not sure whether the water pump is bad or how much water should come out of exhaust.
- It may not be your water pump at all. It could be a blown head gasket or a cracked block. Do you drive it very much? If you do and it doesn't totally overheat, it isn't your water pump. Water pumps usually tend to make a lot of noise when they go bad. Depending on the temperature of the air where you live, I would say don't worry too much about white clouds coming out of your exhaust. You do notice I said white? Condensation in an exhaust pipe is normal. Check the little stuff first. Check your thermostat and radiator cap first. Those are inexpensive. Have your radiator checked at the local Mom and Pop radiator shop where they will also check your hoses and engine oil, to see if it looks like mud. That will tell you if you have a cracked block. Total overheating can be a blown head gasket which is expensive because of labor. The parts cost is minimal, it is just a total b i t c h because you have to get the whole top of the motor off. Have your freeze plugs checked too and if they are plastic, have them replaced with brass ones. It is a very old vehicle and you are going to be looking at some money to fix things. I hope I helped, although you didn't tell me the name of the vehicle. That would help a bit more and if you know it is the water pump, go get a new one!!!!!!! And check your fan belts too while you're at it. Good luck! :) I'm just a dumb lady...lol!
