Q: What I am trying to explain is that I took my vehicle to be serviced for a water pump. They installed it, but when I got my vehicle back, it started making this clicking noise. I took it back to be diagnosed and they came back to me saying that I need a new engine? (Before I took in my vehicle there was no clicking sound or problems, just the water pump.)Could this be the dealer trying to pull something for their mistake or what?
It is hard to answer given the information given. What kind of car ? If your car has a waterpump that is turned by the timing belt, yes the shop could have messed up on the cam timing as they re-assembled after installing the pump. What is causing the clicking sound ? It could be a bent belt or any of a hundred things. Where do you hear the sound coming from ?
Q: So my daughter's car is an 02 Accord manual with about 127k miles. It's making a squeaky noise which apparently is the belts. The dealer says they're too tight, but are in okay condition. They want to change the water pump and adjust the belts for $750. This seems a bit steep to me. Does the water pump need to be changed if it's working properly? How much should it cost to adjust the belts? I'm thinking she should find a more reasonable shop. What are your thoughts?
Belts can and do squeal. Usually because they are loose and have begun to glaze up. They get a real slick look on the sides. In addition there are several pully bearings that can and do make noise. My suggestion is to find a reputable shop (or two) for another opinion. While you are there, ask what the factory recommended time intervals are for timing belts and water pump on that make and model. At 127k I have to wonder if the timing belt/water pump have already been changed. My last 3 vehicles called for the belt to be changed 80-90k and the pump 100k (if i remember correctly). And as it requires removing all the same parts (on a transverse mounted front wheel drive car like yours) to gain access to either one, shops often recommend doing both to save labor in the near future. As a rule Dealer repair shops charge more, a lot more. Granted they only use factory parts, no used or rebuilt as a rule. The pump is as little as $30 (aftermarket) or more than $200 depending on make and model. If it is located where I think it is you can count on at least 4 and probably 6 hours of labor. However, if like my 2000 Mercury Sable the pump is on the drivers side, in plain view it would only take 1.5-2 hours to replace.

Installing okorder /. You really can't scrimp on these cars. Maybe you can save a few dollars if you shop for parts. But if a timing belt fails or the pump bearing siezes, your engine is done. You need to be especially careful about water pumps, as a cheap rebuild may be poor economy. The part in the above post is an auxiliary water pump, not the primary water pump. The electric aux pump is a sort of preheater for the cabin, and need not be replaced unless it's stalled.

Q: Yesterday my car was making squeaky noises in the front and then the fan came on FULL FORCE it sounded lik an airplane. It then started to over heat. Q: Ok, so I was driving the other day when I heard this quot;clunksound...my AC went out (stopped blowing cold), and power steering went out. I pulled over and one of the wheels where the serpentine belt goes on was off and obviously the belt was off too. 400 okorder and the water pump replacement was 273 to 322 dollars. I could not find a price for the water pump belt and the tension-er pulley that is usually replaced then too but piece wise I think the shop is not trying to hose you. Its always good to pay attention however. anytime you lose a belt like that, shut off the car it can overheat quickly and blow a head gasket or worse the motor. Some people just do not understand that when a catastrophic failure occurs and you lose several important functions all at once park the car until it gets fixed. Repairpal takes a bit of getting used to when first trying out, but it can give you some price guides that are right on the money when you are not sure what the mechanics are telling you. good luck pay attention.
Q: i drove up a hill which was about a mile and when i got up the hill i drove anther half a mile to my location and as soon as i tuned my car off i notice coolant leak for the reservoir tank and being dumb i took the cap off off and i think you know so i drove it home after letting it return to a lower temp and it didn't run hot it just raised 2 line above the middle marker and i ran it today just to idle and refilled the tank and let it run it didn't leak but the Serpentine belt made a noise not loud but noticeable (could this be a bad water pump and i flushed my radiator before they swapped engine out which was not long ago) the current engine is used and run fine with power and pep
How Bad did you get burned when you pulled the cap off the HOT Radiator?? Sounds like you need to Boil/Flush Out the cooling system again since the Engine Swap, make sure the Coolant you add is 50%-50% Antifreeze Clean Water, Replace the Belt. is your Radiator Cycling Properly? Does the Belt run the Water Pump or is it run by the timing belt? Year Mileage. Thermostat in the Used engine could be sticking half closed?
