- Q: When I turn on my pump for the pool water-fountain it will run for 30 seconds or 4 minutes or anywhere in between then it just shuts off. I push the remote on button on again and it runs for a few seconds. Sometimes it will run for a while longer but mostly short durations. Thanks in advance for your help.
- For it to cycle it fairly is maximum possibly a overheat thermostat change someplace on the motor. A fuse would not reset itself. Are you particular the pump is circulating water. If water isn't flowing and motor is on motor can particularly overheat. have you ever tried priming the pump; the pump can no longer artwork if there is air in the pump or pump intake line (pour water down the pump to do away with air)
- Q: 1996 Eagle Vision tsi,has a small coolant leak, was told it iso.k. due to a water pump pressure release valve?has anyone heard of this on an auto?I thought they were only in hot water tanks at home.
- This is a new one to me! All water pumps have a weep hole in front of the water pump bearing to alert mechanics and owners the water pump needs replacing. The pressure inside a cooling system is controlled by the pressure cap on the radiator or coolant recovery tank. Many cars have the pressure cap now directly on the reserve coolant recovery tank. Ford is an example. As pressure builds when the coolant gets hot the relief spring inside the radiator cap allows coolant to pass to the coolant recovery tank @ atmospheric pressure if the pressure cap is located directly on the radiator. As coolant cools a small plunger in the center of the radiator cap opens and coolant returns to the motor and radiator. The whole idea is to completely eliminate air bubbles inside the cooling system. I'd have to actually see this in a Chrysler shop manual as you could be loosing coolant and have no idea where or why. What you're explaining to us doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Someone is whistling sweet nothings in your ear.
- Q: All the water to my house comes from the river close by - via a 1500kw surface pump, into a large pressurised tank. If there is ever any kind of blockage in the pipe - or if it freezes ...this causes the pump to run - 'dry' - which eventually burns out the motor. I have lost 2 pumps so far because of running dry - and they are very expensive.I would like to fit some kind of automatic cut-out - that will ALWAYS stop the pump running after 15 minutes or perhaps less - as that is ALL the time it needs - if the water is flowing freely - to fill the pressurised tank. I feel sure such a thing must exist - but I do not know what it is called or where to buy one. Does anyone know of a 'switch' of this kind? And where to look for one? What could I put into google to do a search - for suppliers and prices, please?
- the best thing is buy a submersable pump it is cheap and never burn
- Q: We bought a second hand Rover 75, three months later head gasket blew. This was replaced but blew again due to original wet liners. A reconditioned engine was then put in but head gasket blew again due to original water pump. I am not trying to ascertain blame i would just like to know which is accurate as car seller is saying fault of mechanic as should have changed wet liners and water pump and mechanic is saying it is not common practice to change this parts when you replace a head gasket or engine. Thanks for any clarification, especially if you are a mechanic yourself.
- Well the answer is..... I am going to take a guess that this is a Rover K series engine. They blow the head gasket just for something to do. Terrible problem when the engine was a 1.4 and it only got worse as they bored the engines out. The original fault will be poor maintenance and a failure to ensure it always has loads of anti freeze or corrosion inhibitor in there. That makes the liner to block interface corrode. The second is more controversial, if I knew the water pump was fairly new then I would probably not fit a new one with an exchange engine. If however the water pump was old or an unknown quantity then I would almost certainly change it, and the clutch too, if I had the engine out as it's such a fiddly job to do. BUT who was paying for the work? If it was you then this would have added a fair bit to the bill (if you didn't tell him to change it then really you can't complain that he didn't do it) and it it was warranty work then the terms of the warranty might set out what was supposed to be done. - Q: I think my water pump has crapped out on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. I have been leaking coolant for a few days now and there is a puddle under my Jeep after I turn it off and my reserve tank keeps emptying out on me. I replaced the lower radiator hose and still the same problem. It is not over heating so I am wondering if it IS a water pump problem? If it is, could I do the work myself?
- modern cars r hard to work on..I used to do all my work but now have a guy... Get a shop manual if you r going to try it..warer pumps are not as hard as some things. but the step by step helps..
- Q: Okay, I'm setting up an NFT hydroponic garden and am now looking for the water pump. I would like some suggestions for one that will give a steady stream at a good rate for the plants. But, it must have a minimum lift of 5ft to reach the first level.I would prefer one with a flow rate adjustment but if you could at least make a suggestion to the GPH it should pump for the right flow after a 5 ft climb I could search more in that range for one I like.Thank you!
- I think you may want to look at the small pond pumps and just about any nursery or home supply store or landscaping store. they may have the specs on hand, or see if they can demo one for you. some places have a display pond set up already. You also might try a small swimming pool pump and put a voltage regulator in the line and adjust the pump speed that way. maybe rig a sewing machine pedal in the line and use a C clamp for an adjuster. I love rigging thing. It may not work with a gfi plug.
- Q: Okay my well water pump keeps turning on and off, i can hear it click on and off. Then the water stops running completely! What is wrong with it?? It has been doing this since last night.
- You have what is called a waterlogged pump system. As Gordon said, all in one sentence, most domestic water pump systems operate by using the water they pull up from the ground to compress the air that's already in the resevoir tank either in your basement or back room. The standard working pressure limits are 20 lbs. on/40 lbs. off, or 30 lbs. on/50 lbs. off. The water is pumped in until the air is compressed to 40 psi., then the pressure switch shuts it down. When you draw water off by turning on a tap somewhere in the home and it eventually gets down to 20 or 30 lbs, whichever your system is set on, the switch calls for more pressure and the pump kicks back on. In older resevoir systems where air and water met, under pressure, eventually the air is absorbed by the pressure until there's no room left for air to be pressurized and the pump tank becomes waterlogged. If you have what is called a bladder tank, there is supposed to be a rubber film stretched across the tank somewhere near the middle to keep the air and the water separated, If that bladder bursts for whatever reason, eventually, you wind up with a more expensive older style water resevoir tank. You can repressurize these tanks, by turning off the electricity to the pump and turning on the house taps. Let them run a good long time, then shut them off, put some air back in the tank via the fixture on top, close everything back up and turn on the system. Let it prime itself and pressurize itself, it should be close to being right, if not right on. Or you can have a new tank installed.
- Q: a picture of a water pump and its parts, picture of cross section of a water pump how water pump works
- A pump is a device used to move liquids, or slurries. A pump moves liquids from lower pressure to higher pressure, and overcomes this difference in pressure by adding energy to the system (such as a water system). A gas pump is generally called a compressor, except in very low pressure-rise applications, such as in heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning, the equipment is known as fans or blowers.
- Q: i have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee, started overheating last week, i flushed out the radiator with water, i replaced the thermostat, overheated again, i felt the top radiator hose it was cold. so i replaced the water pump. still overheated. every time i drain the system when i refill it i had red to fill the radiator and reservoir, leave the radiator cap off, then start the engine and turn the heat on max, the radiator burps the air bubble out, then the coolant level in the radiator starts going up and down, my thermostat is rated at 195, when the guage hits 210 hot coolant sprays out of the radiator, but the top radiator hose is cold, what am i doing wrong? is there air still trapped in that top radiator hose?
- id say its the radiator after all what ya replaced. have it checked out at a shop. before ya do though ya might do a complete flush of the motor and the cooling system. might be a blockage in a water jacket in the motor. ya can buy the flush kit at any parts store, its simply a T that ya splice into on of the heater core hoses, hook up a water hose, turn heater on, and wait with the engine running. if theres any blockage it will spit and sputter till its pushed out with the water pressure. let it idle till clear water comes out then drain and add coolant. try this first with water only and if it doesnt solve your problem id say ya need a radiator.
- Q: I have a Chevy Express Van 3500, i believe that the water pump is leaking, how long would it last before major breakage?
- If it really is the water pump, then the coolant is seeping out of the weep hole at the bottom of the pump. Leakage from this location indicates that the seal around the shaft is worn. Eventually (no more than a few days), the leak will degrade to the point that the pump must be replaced. I personally don't use stop-leak in any system in our cars - I prefer to fix the leak and be done with it! For now, keep a close eye on that leak - and your temperature gauge.
