Q: When you are replacing a water pump on a vehicle, should you replace the timing belt on the vehicle as well?
if the water pump is driven by the timing belt then its a good idea to change both as the labor to get into water pump is the same as to do the timing belt. I'd spend the extra $50 for the belts and change them while I'm in there and that way you'll be ahead of the game instead of paying (or taking the time) to do it twice at two different times
Q: I have a big garden ,I have plant all kinds of flowers, including roses,Chrysanthemum, but everyday i have to water them one after one pot,a little waste time and waste my energy.who can help me ?tks
You can get automatic sprayers from the large home and garden stores which will spray over a given area on a set time...somewhat like a sprinkler.
Q: Car is ford taurus 98.The car had some problems including overheating as thermostat was bad so was was not working. i drove it 25 miles to garage (i had to stop once because too hot to let it cool), i brought it to Ford who replaced the thermostat. Now they tell me some bits of thermostat broke and they need to replace the waterpump and want $620 for it. The other repair were also extremely expensive and i want to bring it to another garage 1.3 miles away on flat road.-1- is it safe to drive 1.3 mile with no water pump or should iget it towed?-2- should i have to pay for the water pump or is it ford's fault if they did not remove the bits of broken thermostat before reconnecting new thermostat to hose ? Can i prove that the pump was working when i came in if i drove 25 miles with it ?Thanks for your help.
driving it 1.3 miles should be no problem, but why do they believe the water pump is bad? Do they have the water pump off the engine yet? It's not impossible for bits of the thermostat to break up and cause a problem, but it IS unlikely. Was the car maintained with the proper coolant otherwise? It is not unlike a garage to get you in for one repair and sell up to another that you do not need. Please answer the questions above... Thanks for responding!! The thermostat is made so that if the spring breaks (which it can),the pieces are captured around the center post and, generally, can't be sent thru the cooling system. When a pump goes bad, it is usually the bearings that go out and they can create a whirring noise and as they get worse, coolant will start to leak where the shaft comes out of the water pump. A simple way to tell if it is bad is to try to wiggle this shaft or look for coolant leaking out the area of the shaft (with the engine off, of course). To answer your original question tho, IF this is legitimate, then you should pay for the water pump. If the water pump is off already, did they take it off without your knowledge? If so, don't drive it. Get them to put the old one back on (free) and drive it down the road. If it's still on the engine, driving it the 1.3 miles shouldn't be any problem. Best of luck to you P.S. One of the responders above said to loosen the radiator cap because the water heats quicker under pressure. THIS IS NOT CORRECT. If the car were to overheat while the cap was off, you run the risk of losing all of your coolant.
Q: I want to know how to start up a water pump so i can move up to my camp.
There's a few different kinds of water pumps. If you're referring to a hand-pumped well water pump that doesn't work, then it's generally lost it's prime. Some well pumps are constructed so you pour a quart or so of water into the pump and stroke the handle up and down until the water rises in the well. Other kinds of well pumps you have to take the hand pump off and pour a bucket of water into the well hole. It just depends on what kind of water pump you have.
Q: I think my water pump is leaking and I want to replace it, but I can't figure out how to get the pulleys off. There is a large nut on the shaft that the pulleys are on, and I can't figure out how to remove it, or if the nut is attached to the shaft, and the entire shaft is supposed to come out, or how it's set up. Please help. Pictures would be great if possible. Thanks!
you take that big nut off, and if the pulley does not come off, you have to find a puller and pull it off the water pump, becaue more than likely the NEW water pump you need will not have a pully. Do yourself a favor, and buy a brand new water pump, it will last the life time of the car, and you will not have as many issues which may happen if you buy a cheap pump if you have never done a water pump,I suggest buying a repair manual, this will have a step by step guide that will make the job much easier on you and the truck
Q: honda acord water pump 1988
hello Purchase a how to book, because part of the water pump sits behind the timing belt cover.Hope this was some help.
Q: ok im ready to install my new water pump but it has to gasket in the package i no where one goes it shapes to the water pump but i dont no if the other one is used, and also where does the o ring go in the big hole in the center does it have to be pushed down into a seem or something and do the to out side holes need o rings as well, and does the hermonic balancer seal need to b replaced
The water pump should come off the block with 4 bolts, the gasket goes between the body and rear plate. The o- ring fits onto the transfer tube that travels between the valley of the block. Add a little lube to it to make installing the pump and cover easier. The lower t belt gear should slide off easily, if not a bit of heat may help, careful not to break the oil pump (front end of block). The upper cam gears are best loosened slightly while the belt is still installed. If not try slipping the old belt over the gear and holding the outside of the gear/ the belt. Air tools may be required due to torque required.
Q: I've bleed the lines, and gotten rid of all the air bubbles. I've replaced the thermostat correctly, (triple checked) and I don't think it's the water pump because it isn't leaking what so ever. My temperature gauge is not moving what so ever, and the coolant reservoir over flows heavily, and I can hear a thumping sound in the radiator.
Its gonna' take some doin' === Drain the radiator..remove the thermostat..fill the radiator with water and radiator flush chemical..run the motor..until hot..either with the Radiator Cap--ON or OFF.. If you left the radiator cap installed..the engine will need to cool down--to remove it.. Flushing your motor with the radiator cap removed offers time savings.. === Yet..the radiator might over-flow during the flushing. cedure.. === Stand away from the car..and be ready to turn off the motor.. ..safely drain all the flushed material..refill with fresh water and drain out(no need to start thre motor).. === Now..look at your thermostat..does it have a tiny little hole in the flange area.. The flange is the flat portion that supports the opening and allows a place to seal the gasket--there should be a tiny bleeder hole..that's not in the gasket portion.. It allows some coolant to flow--freely.. I once bought a thermostat that was missing the bleeder hole.. I used a tiny drill to replace that item..tiny hole like THIN Spagetti/..so fluid can escape thru thre system.. === With that in mind--get the system back together..check for leaks..//[end]
Q: I have a 1997 mazda 626 4cylinder. For a while now, my hot n cold gauge keeps wobbling back and forth. I was keeping water in it and it was fine. A week ago it went all the way to hot and started smoking. There is water gushing out right beside the pulleys. I'm not sure if it is the water pump or not. Now, my car won't crank. Someone told me that it was the rotor button, but i can't tell if it is bad. I don't really want to take it to a mechanic. Can someone help me?????
your water pump is bad if it leaks or whines. Sounds like yours leaked when you rcar overheated. I'd suggest that the overheating problem may have been caused by something else though, as you said that the water levels were not going down until it overheated. I would suggest you may have had a head gasket problem or thermostat or radiator problem. Now it sounds like you have done a lot of damage by allowing it to get so hot. You may have a ruined engine I'm afraid. It might have seized. Tip;- don't carry on driving when it keeps overheating. It does a lot more expensive damage if you do. Take your car to a professional to get it checked out. Expect the worse. Sorry to sound so gloomy, but I'm just trying to prepare you. I hope for your sake it isn't as bad as I think. Good Luck
Q: Hey guys, I have a American Volkswagen Jetta 1999 manual transmission Gas Fuel, and the water pump is messed and I need to know where it goes. In front of the radiator? or somewhere else? Does anyone know where I can get any websites showing me instructions? Thanks.
A instruction manual would be on hand to steer you by. it incredibly is a reasonably extensive pastime. As a run down, you will prefer a huge floor jack with a block of timber so which you will placed it below the oil pan. you're able to try this so which you will eliminate the motor mount which would be on your way. The water pump is pushed by the timing belt. you will prefer to get a sparkling t-belt, t-belt tensioner, rollers for timing belt, etc. additionally notice that as quickly as you're refilling equipment with coolant, there'll be lots of air interior the equipment. in case you do not have a device that vacuums all the air and pressurizes the coolant for the period of the equipment, you will could shop topping off the coolant for a whilst till all the air escapes as youchronic it. desire this facilitates.
