Q: gas is too expensive. here in florida i guess everyone has a noisy gas powered generator for when hurricanes knock out our power
yes bio-fuels are capable of running generators, just in order to make it usable it needs to be subjected to a process of trans-esterification, this will make it like diesel and then can be used easily in the generator. it too depends from which plant u have derived the oil. oil from some plants can be directly used in generator.
Q: Does any one have any experience with Kipor Diesel Generators?I know the price is really good. But are they reliable? Or will i shoot myself for buying another Chinese product?I'm looking at model KDE16STA
Dont buy anything Chinese. They are not interested in customer satisfaction or quality and just want to shift as much product as possible. The materials are usually sub-standard and the build quality is total rubbish! I guess it depends what you want it for? If it is a one off use and then you are prepared to throw it away then maybe consider it but otherwise spend even double the amount and get some equipment that can be serviced and that has a customer service and back up plan. It will be more value in the long run. It is also more patriotic.
Q: An internal combustion engine runs more efficiently at constant speed. If it was run to charge the batteries when needed, via a generator, it seems to me it would be much more efficient than today's dual mode hybrids. This is essentially what diesel-electric locomotives do, and they get much better gas mileage than cars.
The next generation of Hybrid vehicles are being designed to do exactly this. They are referred to as REEVs, or Range Extended Electric Vehicles. Essentially, they are a fully electric vehicle, like a Tesla roadster. Electric vehicles have greater low end torque than internal combustion engines, and are inherently more energy efficient (more energy used goes toward locomotion rather than waste heat) To extend the range of these electric vehicles beyond just plugging them in to charge the batteries, they have an on board generator that can be set up to run on gasoline, diesel, bio diesel, or ethanol. They also take advantage of the same regenerative braking systems that are already being used in current hybrid vehicles. REEVs are pretty much awesome. If you're looking at getting a new ride, I'd recommend waiting a few years and getting one of these.
Q: i means what's happen in diesel generator while just switch on ?
Depends whether it is a battery start or air pressure start. If it's started with a battery, the starter cranks the engine with an electric starter. If it is air started, a solenoid valve is energized, or a hand valve is opened to allow the air pressure to crank the engine with an air turbine. That's the first occurance. There is a definite start-up sequence, in the event the engines fails to start within a given time frame.
Q: Hi. I'm thinking about getting a 15KVA Cummins generator.I want to know how many hours can I run a Diesel Generator before I have to give it a rest? How many hours do I need to rest it before I can get it started again. I live in a hot and dusty area.I have heard that Diesel engines are happier if they are just kept running and they hate being turned off and on, is that true?Any help or insight would be appreciated.Greetings from Iran
the worst thing for a diesel motor bore is for it not to work, but to run at a constant revs but the electricity is not used. They need to be loadedsay 70% and they will run forever. just stop them to chage the oil. note they cost a fortune in diesel to generate power.
Q: Diesel trains use electric motors because the low-end torque is much greater than a mechanical drive drive train, I was wondering, since low-end torque is essential to starting with heavy dead weight, why more trucks and SUVs don't have electric motors on the wheels?
For most part, it has to do with reliability. A train runs on a set track, so no ups and downs and bumps and whatnot. Nothing under the tracks that'll come up and snag the bottom, that sort of thing. A truck on the other hand, do drive over things, and the wheels go up and down bazillion times, and all that. A truck's wheel hubs are designed to be as simple and robust as possible for maximum reliability. Adding a motor to the hub would decrease its ground clearance, decrease reliability, and if one of the motors fail the vehicle can't really run on the rest (assuming all wheels are powered) as it produces asymmetrical thrust. So you have to disconnect the matching one on the other side. The designers basically judged that currently, the technology cannot compensate enough for the advantages to outweigh the disadvantages. A while back, Ford was considering a system called gas-operated launch assist. Basically, it operates similar to the way a hybrid stores electricity generated from braking, and releases it back for acceleration. However, instead of doing battery/motor/generator, it uses a compressible gas as the energy storage medium. While driving and braking, gas is compressed into the the cylinder. When the start starts moving again, the gas is allowed to expand, adding a bit of oomph to the launch. Apparently, that idea didn't go anywhere, but it was interesting. And Dodge actually built a special hybrid Durango that only had the gas engine drive one set of wheels, and electricity drive the other set of wheels. It is much easier and cheaper to make than a regular hybrid, but apparently the traction control is giving them problems to coordinate between the two drivetrain systems. --- Kasey C, PC guru since Apple II days Borg Burgers: Have it our way. Yours is irrelevant.
Q: creating steam turbines that can run on ANYTHING to power the electric generators in modern engines?
So you people don't really read any of these postings do you? How many times do we have to answer the same questions? Bio diesel is not the way to replace fuel oil (diesel). There is not enough acreage in the USA to grow the amount of crops, any crops, to make bio fuels to power the existing fleet of vehicles much less the future fleet. And carrying water on locomotives is very inefficient. Steam Engines (Sterling Engines) are a very efficient means of moving huge vehicles. That is why they use nuclear/steam to power air craft carriers but hauling water to make steam cuts the payload so much that it becomes unprofitable. Why would we want to go back in time and technology? We can go to plug in electric powered vehicles that are charged by photovoltaic panels at your home or work. And, naysayers pay attention to this, Linear Electric Drive would power long distance and heavy hauling.
Q: I am looking into using solar energy and generators for commercial use. Using the solar energy during the day is a piece of cake obviously. But I would need a backup generator for night-time use. If I were to get a commercial grade backup generator, could I essentially recharge it during the day while it is not in use? Any other suggestions that this route are welcome. Maybe even a backup storage (battery) for the the excess solar energy. Something to store the unused energy?
well, thats will need very big battery capacity and also inverter ofcourse
Q: i read alot, maybe them all, but i cant understand how yachts work or get their power from. Please help !!
Most non-sailboat yachts longer than 40 feet (and up to 300 feet or more) are diesel powered using one or several large Caterpillar, Man, John Deere, Detroit or other similar large diesel engines. A yacht shorter than 40 feet is often gasoline powered. None are battery powered. All large yachts have diesel generators which are used to generate electric power for the onboard electrical systems. When a yacht is docked it usually obtains power from the shore using a large cable that connects to shore power supply systems. Yachts with sails usually also have a single small diesel engine that allows them to maneuver in harbors and other places where sailing might be dangerous or impossible.
Q: Can bases be sources of electricity? Please explain why and cite your references. Thanks :)
base has many meanings. Air force bases sometimes have a diesel generator. Base hospitals almost always have diesel generators. A chemical base, together the right metals, can act as a electrochemical cell (battery). A base metal, such as zinc and copper, with the proper acid can act as a electrochemical cell (battery). .
