- Q: Ex:cars. But im not sure about buses, motorcycles, and airplanes. Please help me out.thanks
- Trams, trains and electric bicycles.
- Q: can somebody explain to me electrical power distribution for jackup rigstarting from the engine to generator then bus,MCC1,MCC2,SCR
- Nice to have your Q, i am also a Jack up Rig Design Engineer. Ok. see 1st of Jackup rigs have diesel generators which provide power supply for the various electrical power requirements on rig. usually the voltage level is 6.6kV, 4.16kV, 690V or 600 V which is then further reduced upto 415V, 220V/127V as per load and client requirements since it affects the design and overall space required and size of rig as well. the generated power is 1st transferred to the main PMCC or MCC known as generator switchboards. from here the power is dirtributed to various other switchboards such as jacking MCC, drilling MCC, Ventilation MCCs, VFD panels (for top drive mud pump panels through VFD/SCR system) and other MCCs for other electrical loads. voltage is further reduced upto 415V/220V/127V for lighting and other lv loads using dry type transformers. oil filled trafos are not preferred since they r bulky and not feasible to have them on rigs since its in sea and also problem in maintenance. cables used are usually of XLPE or XLPO insulation. the configuration is as follows CU/XLPE or XLPO/Inner sheath (SHF)/Armour/Outer sheath (SHF), the inner and outer sheath has to be low smoke halogen free material, armour is usually bronze wire armour, usually cables used are all flame proof as per iec 60332, cat 3-22A and cables for emergency purposes are fire resistant as per iec 60331. hope this is fine.
- Q: From what I understand, when the earthquake struck, the nuclear reactors had shut down (control rods were inserted). As a result, the power coming from the steam turbine generators were shut off.At the same time, the earthquake had knocked out Japan's power grid, so power coming from outside the power plant was out. Then the emergency diesel generators went into effect, but was knocked out an hour later as well, and people suspect it was from the tsunami.Would the disaster still have happened if they kept the steam turbine generators running (which means never shutting down the reactor via control rods), and water pumping, instead of shutting it down and letting the backup power direct the emergency cooling?
- if hte control rods had not be inserted it would of catastrophic. the reactors would be working at 100% and no one can shut it down becasue there is no power. left for too long and unable to stop the reaction, it could lead to an actual meltdown like at the Chernobyl. there's a good reason why during any emergency the control rods are inserted. its standard protocol since the very first nuclear reactor experiments back in the late 1930s under some gym in the eastern USA. you want to shut down the most dangerous thing first, the one that has the most potential for catastrophe before doing anything else.
- Q: Can you estimate the amount each year in CA.?What are the concerns/issues related to this application.
- I don't know about CA but where I live the predominant fuel for permanently installed back up generators is propane. Propane is used because generators can sit idle for weeks or months between power outages. Gasoline and diesel have limited shelf lives and fuel systems can clog with varnishes when not used. Propane has an unlimited shelf life and does not gum up in the carburetor. Natural gas is not available here. In places where it is available natural gas might be preferable to propane. Its impossible to estimate how much fuel you would use in a year. It depends how big your generator is and how many power failures you go through. Most generator manufacturers will tell you how much fuel their products use in an hour.
- Q: How much power does the generator from the diesel need to produce in order to bring the train up to running speed?
- That all depends upon a number of things. First is the type of traction motor that is driving the wheels. Next is the weight of the entire load to be moved by the traction motors. Also is the grade the load is being moved upon. When a locomotive gets up to speed it might not be using many amps by the traction motors to maintain the speed. However, to start from a dead stop on flat track with a very heavy load it could run as high as 200 or more amps. Again, it also would depend upon the number of engines driving the number of generators driving the number of traction motors. A single locomotive might need to use more amps to get up to speed than a combination of locomotives hauling the same load. There are many variables to this question. Given a particular locomotive, types of traction motors, the load weight, it would be easier to calculate what would be needed in amperage. Everything depends upon all of these things. An engineer can burn up a traction motor(s) by exceeding the amount of amps maximum that the motor can handle. The generators don't care, nor do they figure into the problem. The diesels don't care either. They will just turn the generators faster with more RPM's, and the faster they run, the more the generators will produce, but will the traction motors handle what is given them?? It just depends .
- Q: I just watched the Chernobyl Diaries and it made me really interested with the actual disaster and the impact of it. I never really knew anything about it up until watching this movie and it just fascinates me. What happened that the nuclear plant exploded? Did people did from it? What is Chernobyl like today? Just some interesting facts about the whole thing would be great!
- On April 26, 1986, the operating crew planned to test whether the Reactor No. 4 turbines could produce enough energy to keep the coolant pumps running until the emergency diesel generator was activated in case of an external power loss. During the test, power surged unexpectedly, causing an explosion and driving temperatures in the reactor to more than 2,000 degrees Celsius—melting the fuel rods, igniting the reactor’s graphite covering, and releasing a cloud of radiation into the atmosphere. The precise causes of the accident are still uncertain, but it is generally believed that the series of incidents that led to the explosion, fire and nuclear meltdown at Chernobyl was caused by a combination of reactor design flaws and operator error.
- Q: I just purchased a KOHLER generator 500 KVA would it be safe to run at 10 % load for 6-8 hours
- 500 kva is a big generator and I am guessing it is diesel. It is safe to run at 10% load however it is not good for the engine itself to make a practice of that. It can lead to lower cylinder temperatures and incomplete combustion over time. It is always better to run at or as close to max load as you can.
- Q: I have a bunch of old diesel left over from y2k, a family friend stored 10k gallons and its turned a brown color, it dosent small funny at least to me, still looks red if you put it up to the light but it is not vivid red like it used to be it has a dingy brown color. It was originally RED diesel.Im afraid to run this in my generator, is there any additive I can add to clean it up or fix it that you have PERSONAL experience with.?
- confident, Sulphur acts as a lubricant for diesel autos. I tension Land Rovers, and in case you go online to a pair of those boards- there is usually a protracted checklist of communicate on it. you could upload lubricants to the gas to boost sturdiness of the gas pump - that's all which will positioned on out besides. in case you have a prized posession this may well be a solid theory. in any different case a small volume of latest Vegetable oil on your tank will supply a matching lubricant effect for the pump. - not too plenty or you would be able to wreck the pump in chilly climate. greater importantly for older autos is the fashion of oil you utilize. present day oils do not incorporate the same anti-positioned on effective properties older oils do, and a brilliant form of will reason your seals to fail. - study up on it and notice what the previous boys do.
- Q: I have no idea how to possibly even begin interms of comparison. i know for a standard diesel engine i can just look at fuel efficiency and overall engine efficiency, but how would i do this for a diesel electric engine??
- Simple. You know the efficiency of the diesel. If you're going to add an electric drive, simply allow for the 10% or so losses in the in the generator - motor drive set vs. the smaller mechanical losses in a gear drive set.
- Q: I am looking for a portable propane generator primarily as a home backup. I have a couple models in mind but have no clue about the quality. they seem to have good reviews, but wanted to ask in here anyways. i'm looking at the Sportsman GEN7000LP or Powerland PD3G8500E Tri-Fuel. anyone have experience with either of these? or can recommend a similarly capable brand/model?
