Q: gas is too expensive. here in florida i guess everyone has a noisy gas powered generator for when hurricanes knock out our power: I would suggest using a set of solar panels that will supply enough power to run the fridge and a bit more, with a battery storage to get through the night. This can get you through months of power outage. It will be much more costly than a gas generator to provide the same emergency coverage. But you do not use it just for emergency. It provides that power year round for 20+ years, cutting your electric bills. This is not a lot cheaper than just paying your electric bills. If you get the best, most cost effective solar panel system it will be a break even compared to the electric company.

Ususally for small purposes its an AC generator putting out say 6000 watts at 120 VAC or 240 VAC at 60 Hz or 50 Hz depending which country you live in or generator came from. Also along with the AC it puts out, it also has an output of 12 volt DC for charging batteries, even its own, for starting itself,like a car. You will probably found a label on generator with those Information: Ex. volt (maximum excitation voltage) Ex. amp (maximum excitation amperage) Your AVR output must exceed those specs. If generator is brushless type in most cases it does. Also input voltage of AVR must be the same as output of generator (ex. 110V110V, 220V220V). If generator is triple phase then you can do the same (ex. 380V380V, 440V440V) but if generator have output in star formation then you can use node for a smaller voltage of AVR (ex. 380V220V, 440V253V). If generator work in parallel operation (usually marine main generators does) then things get complicated. In this case AVR is good to support current transformer to make generator more elastic under load fluctuations and match other generators in the same circuit.

If you live where you can get lp or natural gas to the house then go with the generac whole house with automatic switch. I mean a constant supply like city gas or propane. NOT FROM A TRUCK. The trucks will not run if your in the middle of a hurricane or other types of storms If you have to use propane from a tank, rent the largest one available. A 300 pound tank will only last 4 days under full load. Gasoline is dangerous and to hard to keep fresh.

Q: I have two deisel engines and two tank feeds, how can I connect the genset (4KVA) . I am conerned when the engines are idling or even running they will start the genset. I do not want to put an extra tank.Thank you: If your tank has another port on it for a fuel line that is where you hook up. If not go to the supply line at the tank and put in a T fitting and then a shut off valve for each engine. Run the supply line to the generator from that T. You will also need a return line from the generator that you can T into at the return line from the engine at the tank. Many people that convert from gas to diesels run into these same problems. Often a fitting is made up that is put in the fuel fill line to allow for the return line. The generator supply and return lines will be smaller then the engine fuel lines. Running the engines will not cause the generator to start.

Q: i found a 1998 dodge ram 2500 with turbo diesel Cummings motor, and people tell me that Cummings is the best to get why is that? would $3300 be worth it for this truck?: well the Cummings engine is used in semi trucks but are compact to fit into trucks. the turbo is in all of the trucks so when you hit a certain speed it will kick in. my dad tried to race one in his work van but when the turbo kicked in the power was to much and the truck was all over the road. but these trucks have better gas mileage and last longer which increases its value.
