Q:i have looked around and nobody seems to be selling white carpet...yeah i know it's gonna get dirty and no i dont want a white area rug i want white carpet. I live in florida near tampa. Any help would be nice!!
Have you asked the carpet stores that you were already to if they could order the white carpet for you? I wouldn't think that should be a big deal at all. A lot of carpet stores may not have all colors of carpeting available on sight. They should have plenty of samples for you to look at and you choose the one you want. If you don't see it in the store, that doesn't mean they can't order it for you. There shouldn't be an extra charge for ordering the carpet you want.
Q:scorched my carpeting. the lamp cord had a split and it broke leaving black scorch marks on my carpet.
The only way you can remove the scorch marks off the carpet is to clip the black scorch marks off. Very carefully so you don't clip more than you need to clip. Hopefully it was across the top part of the carpet threads. When we had our carpets installed the installer told me to correct some threads that pop out is to clip on them rather than try to pull them out. So when you think of it I guess it is about the only way you can fix the scorched problem. If it is more than just scorched you can replace a small area with an other piece where it doesn't show or matter. Best of luck to you and hope you only need clipping.
Q:We want to store it under our house, but it can get dusty and being in Australia we deal wih extreme's in temperature, really hot to qutie cool. How do we prevent mould spiders gettting in there?
try plastic or buy a ben, storage
Q:I found a bath rug that is the perfect color for my kitchen but I don't know if it matters that it is a bath rug or not. What is the difference? And would it matter if it was in the kitchen?
The only tme it matters is IF the backing to the rug is latex AND it is going over a vinyl flooring that is light colored. Latex backing will turn the vinyl yellow over time and for some reason, it tends to happen more in the kitchen then in the bathroom. I had a latex backed rug in the bathroom for 10 years, but picked it up and hung it to dry after the last shower of the day. I had the same rug in the kitchen which I picked up and washed whenever it needed it, but it was on the floor continuously for most of the time. The same vinyl was in the kitchen that was in the bathroom and the kitchen vinyl yellowed while the bathroom did not. And, it also happened to several of my renters as well. One of my genuis tenants used a carpet pad underneath the one in the kitchen, she lived there for 6 years and that prevented it from happening to her...
Q:My apt is approx. 900 sq ft. Minus the 2 bathrooms, and dining and kitchen rooms is about 860 sq ft maybe. I want my old carpet to be replaced with the soft carpet. The one that is not too furry. Not Berbar carpets and not commercial. My current one is 10 years old and is commercial. I hate it cuz it roughens my feet over the years and i have to wear slippers.
860 square feet is 95.5 yards. The style of carpet you want is a sculptured plush, which can retail anywhere from 17.99 a yard upwards to 35.00 a yard. If you were to figure 19.99 a yard, for instance times 95 yards you would have around 1910.00 for only the carpet! You must also take into consideration the following costs: Removal of old carpet and pad- both the labor and the hauling away. New pad. Installation labor costs. Any cost for furniture or appliance moving or disconnecting. Moldings or cove base or quarter round. If your landlord was looking at commercial carpet it is due to the fact that it will stand up to the normal abuse most tennants subject flooring to. I work in a flooring store and I also own a rental. I know the usual life of carpet in a rental and the cost of the materials and labor for my area. In your area, it is likely that your costs would be much higher than here, since I live in a small town. Hope that helps! p.s. without actually looking at the installation area in person, to quote you a realistic price would be impossible!
Q:This might be a stupid question. But I'm about to buy carpet and I need to know how many sq. feet I need. thanks
What is your room shaped like? If it's a perfect square, then it should be obvious, but if it's L shaped or some other shape you'll have to work a little harder. If you've ever taken geometry, then you should have no problem. If your room is L shaped, break up the space into two rectangles. One for the vertical part of the L and another for the horizontal part of the L. Then measure each rectangle separately and add the two amounts together. The other thing you have to remember about carpet is that it's going to have a seam. Obviously there aren't 20 foot wide rolls of carpet out there, so installers will sew the pieces together to create a seamless look. That is something else you have to determine. You'll have to find the carpet you want and figure out how wide it comes. THEN you'll have to figure out where to put the seam in your floor in order to have it as out-of-the-way-of-foot-traffic as possible so it doesn't come apart after a few years. In all honesty, carpet is a lot more confusing and difficult than most people think, which is why there are professionals you can call for help with this. I suggest you call a local carpet dealer and ask them what they recommend. After all, they're not going to charge you to call and ask. Good luck!
Q:I have carpet in my kitchen (awful). I decided to change the oil in my deep fryer and just put a couple of grocery bags together and poured in in there. I mistakenly put the used oil in my regular trash bag. When the bag was almost full I pulled it out and set it on the floor to continue stuffing it. When I moved the bag I noticed that the oil had leaked out and is now all over my carpet. A huge spot. How do I get it cleaned up.
Before you use the dawn, try this: take lots of paper towels, newspapers, etc. and put them down, then apply a hot iron, this will absorb a lot of the oil. Keep doing it until there is no tangible oil. Then take Dawn. Pour it right on, let it set and then scrub scrub scrub. If you have a wet vac, vacuum up the water so the carpet and pads don't get moldy. If you don't, try to borrow or rent one. Good luck.
Q:Do most people prefer carpet over hardwood/vinyl/linoleum?Carpets collect dust hair mites and all things gross.. and you have to vacuum which costs money.. not to mention hard work and is loud and annoying. Also, many Americans wear shoes in their homes. So why would you want a flooring that collects the dirt on the bottom of your shoes? When has home carpeting become generalized standards for most homes? Anybody know?
Most homes don't have carpeting at the entrance door where alot of people take their shoes off. Carpeting has a pad underneath it, unless it's like mine where I have underfloor heating in my ground floor living room. Little kids like to play sit on the floor, so carpeting is warmer/softer for them in the winter months. Most bedrooms are carpeted for barefoot warmth. (You can't fall asleep if your feet are ice). Mopping shampooing is work, shampooing a carpet is done less frequent. I'd rather have baby tip over and bonk his head on carpet than on a tiled floor. Full room carpeting became popular about in the 60's. Under floor electric heating is catching on, I have it in my bathrooms built in '99. ele ^ (my delete isn't working)
Q:I want to know which carpet cleaner is better the Hoover Platinum or the Rug Doctor. I am just using this for my home. Anything better I don't need the huge professional monsters.
If the Hoover Platinum is a steam cleaner, that would be good to use. The best way to clean your carpets is with a steam cleaner, and please open your windows in your home a crack, and possibly turn the heat up a little in the evening, to help the carpets dry quickly, and help the air to circulate and it's the best way. Should be dry within 3-4 hrs. Take care.
Q:can chemical fiber carpet be mopped?
The carpet generally cannot be mopped, it is not easy to remove dust, a vacuum cleaner is suggested; or brush completely
