- Q: Is this really difficult to maintain? I have a 7-year old and we live in the tropics. What are the products that we need to use as protector?
- I live in North Carolina, and in the Summer we have Tropical Weather.I wouldn't recommend any Leather, Vinyl, or Plastic because you stick to everything, even with A/C on all the time.Also mold and mildew grow really fast on leather. Buy a Cloth Sofa. 9/29

- If you like your sofa, why not get an area run to compliment it (it sounds like the sofa has a busy pattern, so select a solid rug; maybe pick a favorite or neutral color that's in the sofa upholstery somewhere, and get an area run in that single color). A tile floor - even one that mimics wood (tho the newest wood look tiles are very cool) sounds cold for a living room, so a large area rug in a complimentary color kills two birds. If you like the floor and are ready for a new look for your sofa, get a slip cover for the sofa. You coud pick out fabric in a fabraic store and have one custom sewn (not necessarily cheap) or check out ready-made slip covers at a site like Sure-fit.

- Put some double side tape or rolled up duct tape on the side of your couch or where ever he is scratching. Just keep that there for some time and after a while he will stop scratching.

- Buy enough fabric plus a a bit more to completely cover the sofa, sew a hem all the way around the fabric after cutting off enough to sew a long strip that is going around the bottom of the sofa. This strip has to be wide enough to put elastic in so it depends on the size of elastic, I used the round elastic. Place fabric properly on sofa tucking in at cushions etc then put the strip with elastic half way down the bottom of the sofa all the way around. This will hold it all in place and look more like it has been recovered.

- 1) Get a scratching post. You can easily make them with strong cardboard tubes some old carpet. I find my kittens like scratching in the natural fiber door mats. 2) In pet shops you should be able to find sticky pads that make it unpleasant to scratch. 3) reward the cat with a food treat when you see it scratching on the pad or other approved area. 4) Use a loud clap, stomp and Low voice when you see the cat scratching the sofa. 5) be patient. Make sure the cat has toys (empty boxes, drinking straws, wool are all cheap toys) Good luck :)
- Q: I have this great old 1920s Empire Sofa (curled arms, navy velour, brass claw feet, uber comfortable)But the problem is that it is sagging. I felt underneath the couch and I feel wire or springs or something like that. I have a friend who can reupholster, but I wonder about the springs or whatever on the bottom. How do I fix that so it wont sag?
- The springs probable need to be retied or replaced. I would not reupholster it unless it was absolutely necessary..if you must do it use the same kind of fabric that is on it now. It sounds like a really beautiful piece!
