Q: I would like to recover them but they want $1000 just for the sofa. I could buy a new (junk but new) one for that. I prefer to keep these because I will probably retire next year and we can throw them out at that time. They are now both covered in green vinyl that is cracked in many places. Q: Pottery Barn tells me that a sofa that they have with overall dimensions of 80w x 36d x 36h will not fit through my doorway. They say that the diagonal depth of the sofa is 32 and that's what determines whether or not it will fit. However, the sofa has removable back cushions and the actual back of the sofa is 29. Will it fit through the door?: The reason they calculate diagonal depth is because that is how it would normally be carried in. From my experience with very narrow doors: You could try to stand it on its end, and then swivel it in as though there is a dowel in the corner of the L shape, like someone else said, but I would make sure to check the following: 1: that you have some sort of moving blanket to put the sofa on so that it slides easily. 2: that your door is high enough for the length of the sofa 3: That there is room inside the doorway to turn the sofa to bring it fully inside 4: That there is enough ceiling clearance to tilt it back down once it's in. If you want to carry it with the back facing down, (which you think is the same measurement of your doorway) I would say to check that 1: there is room inside and outside the doorway to angle the bottom legs in 2: That your door moves all the way out of the doorway. I have a 30 doorway but the door bumps into the steps so that there is really only 28.5 of clearance - check it fully! 3: if you can take a tarp and somehow tie it inside and outside so that it is spread flat around the door frame and covers the doorjamb so that nothing gets snagged on hinges or lock mechanisms, and it may make the couch slide easier if the fit is tight. If it is a leather couch consider sacrificing a sheet or tablecloth for this purpose. Or even just get two extra people to spread it out and hold it taut instead of tying it. It can be a couch party! Another option would be (in the off chance you haven't thought of this) to check if you have other bigger doors, like a sliding patio door, which might mean more carrying outside but less manouvering to get it in etc. Then of course you need to check any internal doorways to make sure it would fit those as well.

Q: We are moving into a new empty house. The walls were painted light brown and there's this good condition display-set full-leather sofa on sale, which is really cheap and is light brown in color as well.. almost identical to the wall. we haven't really bought any other furniture. The floor is a much lighter brown than the wall. Is it OK to get the sofa set? Or do i need to find something that contrast to the wall?: It is honestly not something I would suggest, especially since the floor is also a light color. I am thinking that there is a good possibility that it will leave the room looking washed out. What I do suggest though is that if the couch is really a good deal, just repaint that one wall. Leave the rest the light brown and paint that wall behind the couch a darker or bolder color. It will add depth to the room and a bit of drama.

Q: Just got a used sleeper sofa, want change the look of it. It has two fixed cushionsin the front and I want to know how to take them off so I can put other fabric on them. any ideas please or a good book for this answer.Thank U: You can't take off fixed cushions because, by definition, they are fixed in place. What you might try is getting a used sofa without fixed cushions. That way you can remove the cushions and re-upholster them before you resell it and go back to your sofa without fixed cushions.

Q: Just bought a second hand couch and loveseat...im pretty pissed now because I get it home and because I do not have a dog, now I can smell it. I tried everything...EVERYTHING...I heard vinegar works. Its a microfiber set, will it even soak in? Has this method worked for stubborn smells such as this for anyone? I dont have the money for a cleaner or steamer to come, or another couch..im upset about all this...please help. I tried natural enzymes, odo ban, pet urine eliminator, bottles and bottles of stuff. Vinagar is my last hope. Please tell me if this has worked for you, or im just at a complete loss :(: NOTHING is going to work, unless you completely recover the sofa, getting RID of the cover and the stuffing that is probably holding the urine odor. You made a really bad mistake. OWN IT. Buying second-hand upholstered furniture, is never a good idea. You've got: skin cells, dander, dust mites, semen, urine etc. etc. Utter FILTH.

Q: I had to choose a neutral colour for walls in the livingroom (well the only room since it's a small apartment) and I didn't want white or light grey so I chose beige. I just hate the fact beige is so light and kinda boring. What colors go with beige with the decorating, what colour sofa and paintings? I'm thinking about pinkyish flowers and ornaments but I can't make it all pinky even if I wanted to;) I want it to be really cute and not use too many colours.. For the curtains or blinds, I would stay in the same color family as the walls. The reason for all the beige is to create a backdrop for the colors you want to add. Also keeping the walls, flooring and sofa neutral, you can easily change the whole look of the room whenever you like by just switching out the pillows and rug, and changing one or two pics in the room.
