- How about a futon? There a sofa then easily make into a bed and come in diff. sizes and styles. Generally they are less expensive than what you are talking about and they save a lot of space.

- I know you don't want to spend too much money but keeping your back in shape and your body not sore is more important. I'd buy a good quality mattress, make payments if necessary because in the long run it's worth it. And a good mattress will last years. Sofa bed mattresses are better nowadays than they used to be, but still not good to sleep on every night and if you get a cheap mattress, trust me in a year it will be junk. You get what you pay for. A good mattress is a good investment even if you have to put it on the floor until you can afford the bed. Good luck. Oh and buying a used mattress.....?.....uh I don't know how you feel about laying on someone elses' stuff...but I wouldn't. Get a new one.

- did you try checkin a thrift shop? They probably have couch covers and sheets that you can get for like .25-$1 a piece. If your local habitat for humanity has a thrift shop you should go check it out...

- I totally understand...we have two cats (one orange, one calico) and just aquired a new puppy with black hair. I have a livingroom set in a greenish/gold/tan kind of colour...it is really hard to describe it..but it is textured...there is a pattern that sticks up...it is the greatest material if you have animals...none of the hair shows up..very little stick to it..I love this set..and our puppy is getting teeth and likes to chew...she is learning to chew on her toys instead of the sofa skirt, but she still has yet to hurt this material. Just shop around..you can find pet friendly material.

- It will almost certainly fit for a couple of reasons. A furniture manufacturer would soon find itself out of business if it made things that couldn't fit through a standard door, which yours is. Even though the numbers don't seem to add up and that it appears that the dimensions of the sofa are bigger than your door, all it takes is to bring the thing in at an angle and it will go in without a problem. In rare cases, the feet of the piece or a door may have to be removed from its' hinges, but those aren't hard to accomplish and will not slow the process down much. Delivery people with a little experience will know the tricks to make large objects fit into tight doorways without damaging anything. I've moved things up stairs and around seemingly insurmountable obstacles with a little finesse and forethought. Sometimes you have to tip a sofa up on end as well as on its' edge in order to get it through a particularly tight spot, but it is rare. I wouldn't worry as it sounds like your situation is a lot better than some, and the delivery guys will have no problem with it. You're right to be concerned, and it's probably a good idea to remove any possible obstacles prior to them showing up, like wall hangings, lamps, and anything they can trip over. Blankets to protect stair railings and floors isn't a bad thing to have on hand, too. - I've had a sofa and a few chairs reupholstered. The sofa was the most expensive because of the amount of materials needed. I think I paid about $175 for that and about $100 each for the chairs. But I didn't have to pay labor because my mom did them for me. Some tech colleges offer upholstery classes and you can do your own for less than paying a professional or sometimes the people in the class are looking for projects to do.
