- Q: Hi...We have 4 1950's vynil chrome kitchen chairs. I'm wondering how much (just a ball park figure) it would run us to have them redone with new vynil. Anyone know of any websites where I can find out? Thanks. :)
- If my memory is correct chairs like that have a seat that screws onto the frame of the chair, would actually be pretty easy to do yourself. You can buy foam padding and vinyl at a fabric store. Turn the chair upside down and unscrew the screws holding the seat on, there should be staples holding the vinyl on, pull them out. Now you should have a wood? base, pad and a sheet of vinyl.Use the old sheet of vinyl as a guide to measure the new. Use the old pad as a guide to measure the new pad too. Put it all together as before with the new materials, re-staple and screw back on. As far as price I am not really sure I am guessing vinyl is going to set you back about 12 dollars a yard. Foam padding is pretty inexpensive, around 4-5 dollars per chair. If you do it yourself there is no labor charge and you do not have to take the chairs anywhere. Good Luck and have fun.
- Q: I bought a hanging chair at the market, but I'm not sure how to attach it to the ceiling without it falling down when somebody sits on it. Help please!
- Before you attempt to hang this chair, you need to do the following: 1) Use a stud finder to find the floor joist 2) Once you find it, find the center of the joist 3) Take a drill and a small 1/16th drill bit and drill a pilot hole into the joist. If you see wood in the shavings, you are good. Otherwise you have not hit the joist. 4) Take a lag bolt type hood and screw it into the joist. At least 3 should be in the wood. The deeper you go, the better. 5) Hang your chair. Good luck
- Q: How do you get a fresh stain out of an upholstered chair and it cant be complicated. please help.
- If the stain has set, use Resolve rung and upholstery cleaner.
- Q: Do you need help to install a chair?
- No, i'm fine.
- Q: The kind of chairs where they're a bit like a bean bag chair, but filled with scrunchy foam inside rather than beans, and the more you scrunch the foam inside the bigger the chair gets. Anyone know what I mean? I want one but I can't find one cuz I can't for the life of me remember what the heck they're called. :p
- No I have NEVER heard of these - sorry.
- Q: Our puppy likes to take a few pieces of food from the kitchen and carry them over to the chairs by the kitchen table, sit down, and eat under there! What's going on? My wife thinks it's a sign of a problem...
- I'm not positive, but it kind of sounds like the beginning of a food aggression. Monitor her closesly to make sure that she is capable of eating around other dogs and people.
- Q: I am needing to reupholster my dining chairs, and I found some fabric that I really love. It is woven cotton (quilting weight). Can it be used for the dining chairs if I use a protective treatment on it to protect it?
- Quilting fabric is not meant to use for upholstery purposes as it will not resist the constant wear and will stain easily, shortening it's life span quite a bit. However, if you really love the fabric, you most certainly can use a heavier gauge clear plastic vinyl over the quilting fabric for a long life and wipe clean feature. I used vinyl on my kitchen chairs and quite frankly, it lasted so long that I actually tired of the fabric and it was in like new condition when I redecorated. Even if you change your mind and use upholstery fabric, you really do not need much fabric. Home Decorating fabric is 54 wide. You will need 2/3 of a yard/24 of fabric for every two chairs. A 54w , 24l piece of fabric cut in half will net you two 27x 24 chair tops. So, you will only need 1 1/3 yards per every four chairs, believe it or not. So, it is affordable. If you get on the JoAnn Fabric mailing list or e-mail list, you get a 40% off coupon you can use in store or on line.
- Q: It still hurts in the spot where I hit the chair. Wondered if this has happened to anyone else? I am hoping it didn't harm the baby. Don't want to rush and call the doc or anything just yet, but what signs should I look for? Obviously if I start bleeding or something crazy I will go straight to the er, but I am just concerned that I might have just hurt my little one!
- Don't worry. Your baby will be just fine. babies are very well protected inside of you in their little sac. They are tough little things, its not easy to hurt them. just bumping into a chair, would not be enough force to damage the baby. just keep an eye on how you are feeling. if you start to bleed, or severely cramp, then you should go in to the doctor and get checked out asap. i myself fell once during my pregnancy, and another time i accidentally rammed my stomach into the door knob. it even left a bruise. but i brought it up to my doctor and he wasn't concerned. he said that would not hurt the baby. don't stress. your baby will be just fine. good luck. :)
- Q: When I was in the Air Force I never just sat in a chair.
- I first heard the term chair force about 6 years ago when I served on a joint services mission with Air Force nurses (I'm an Army nurse). I asked about the term's origin and was told the term came about because of all the services, the Air Force has the most sedentary jobs. I honestly do not know if that is the case. And the Air Force nurses I served with hardly sat around...they were as busy taking care of patients as us Army nurses.
- Q: I really like the look of the Eddie Bauer high chairs. I really don't like plastic high chairs because they just look cheapy to me. For those of you with the EB high chairs, do you like them and which model do you have? Any recommendations? Thanks!
- Hi! I have the Eddie Bauer B is for Bear Highchair. It is really nice! I know it's probably not something for people who have little space because it doesn't fold up, but it DOES look really nice! I have had mine now for 3 1/2 years and it has held up wonderfully. It is fairly easy to clean (getting baby food out ofcrevices is difficult no matter which high chair you get) and as long as you don't put the pad in the dryer, you CAN put it in the washer on a gentle setting. (Just was it by itself). The wooden high chairs seem to be the most durable, and even though the tray is plastic, it is well made. I even had a mishap where the high chair fell forward (empty of course) and landed straight onto the tray. I thought for sure I had busted it! Fortunately, it had only unsnapped one of the tray locks out of place, and it went back together without any problems. The ONLY downside I have ever had with it is your baby fits best in it when he/ she sits well on their own first. I have propped my girls up using rolled up kitchen towels on either side, so you CAN do that if you choose to. Well, that and I guess it's not something easy to store after you are done with it. Mine sat in the corner of my kitchen or dining room gathering dust for about a year before our second daughter was born. It will definately hold up for many many years and through multiple children! I highly recommend this high chair! EDIT: The cover says fabric, but it is actually vinyl- so you can just wipe it down after too.
