Q: My wife and I are putting chair rail in various places of our new home. We have seen a few pictures of rooms in magazines in which the chair rail was quite a bit higher (for instance, about 5 feet up on an 8 foot ceiling) than usual and liked the way it looked. My dad told us that we probably shouldn't do this. Anyone have any opinions?: Some older homes do have very high chair rails or what are sometimes called dados or wainscoting capped with chair rails. Sometimes they have ledges for hanging pictures or for resting plates and platters, too. Especially in Europe where you see it a lot more than in the states, chair rails or wainscoting will be higher on the wall because the ceilings are so much higher and they are intended to be in proportion with the height of the ceiling and also to make the room more cozy.

Q: I have a computer chair that has been re-covered with normal fabric similar to curtain fabric. Over time stains have appeared on the chair and they have got really dark now and wont come off, the material is a pale biscuit colour so the stains really stand out now. What is the quickest and easiest way of getting rid of them.Thanks to anyone who answers: get a bowl of hot water with some washing up liquid and a dustpan brush and give it a gentle but good scrubbing, make sure you do the whole chair or you will have water marks, if not take it outside and jet it. or maybe get some handwashing powder put it in a bowl of hot water and give it another good scrubbing, all else fails try and fit the chair in the bath and give it a good showering whilst scrubbing it with yet more fairy liquid. that should do it lol x

This one support must be between the middle of the chair and where the two back legs would be. First of all the back legs in a normal chair are not at the back of the seat but extend out further so they are under the top of the back of the chair or further. In addition, the center of mass of someone sitting in a chair is not in the center of the chair but is close to the bottom of the tilted back where the hip bones support the upper half or more of the body weight. Having said that, change the specifications so the 135kg is centered on the chair seat and the single support is moved in various locations from that center away from the front legs (and the chair itself has no weight) The distance from the front legs to the middle is D and the seat is 2D deep. The distance from the middle to the rear support is X and varies from 0 to D. When X is 0, then entire weight is on the rear support. When X is D, then half the weight is on the front legs and half on the support. Therefore the amount of weight in any position is F = 135 * (D / (D + X)) When X =0, D/D+0 = 1 When X =D, D/D+D = 1/2
