- When I first saw this question, I was going to make a snappy answer such as - randomly draw lines all over the place and then erase all the ones that don't look like a chair. But, after reading the question, it's a good one. Measuring curves can be very tricky. I usually draw a straight line parallel to the curves on the actual object and mark the line at several preset, equally spaced points. I then make several measurements at these set intervals on the line to the actual curves - the more measurements, the more accurate the drawing. I then use this information to duplicate the curve from a straight line in the drawing. There may be other methods, too, but I find that this one works best for me. Good luck.

- Hi Kevin.. A standard therapy for phobias is called systematic desensitization. It involves a series of closer and closer approximations. You'd first learn to achieve a relaxed state through visual imaging or progressive relaxation. Once you learned to relax you'd be presented, while relaxed, with a distant and relatively nonthreatening approximation of a chair. Perhaps simply saying the word chair.. or looking at a photograph of a chair. Once you can remain relaxed while seeing the image or hearing the word you'd be exposed to a closer approximation.. perhaps seeing a chair on the other side of the room. When you can maintain relaxation you might be asked to approach the chair while maintaining a relaxed state. Eventually you'd be able to approach and sit in a chair while maintaining your relaxed state. The principle is that you can't maintain two opposite states.. fear/anxiety and relaxation at the same time. You might try this yourself over a period of days/weeks but having the help of a psychologist is likely to make things work out more easily. It works. Regards.

- You need to be comfortable as you possibly can. When i used to meditate, i would lay on my bed but lean my back up against the headboard so i would be upright. You need to be relaxed, but not to the point in which you will fall asleep.

- Depends on how good your sewing skills are. Take the chair completely apart. Carefully remove the upholstery from each piece of chair to make a pattern for the new fabric. Make the piping, and baste it to one piece. Sew all the fabric pieces together and place each complete section back onto the section of the chair it came from. Staple it to the frame. Mark the screw holes so you'll know where they are. Re-assemble the chair. This is a simple as a simple job gets.

- At that price point you won't get durability, but if that's what you can afford, so be it. Things to look for: Heavily padded arms. The seat is comfortable immediately when you try it out. Arms have removable covers. Arm covers and seat cushion cover are washable. Matching footstool or small ottoman. The chair fits you so your back is against its back and your legs bend naturally at the knee. FWIW, if you're in the US you can do better on Craigslist than in an inexpensive furniture store.
