- Q: I need some advice! For my wedding we will be borrowing tables and metal folding chairs. I already have the tables planned out with white tablecloths and a fuschia tulle runner down the center. My problem is the chairs are really ugly and I need a very cheap idea on how to cover those. We are on a really tight budget ($3,000 for everything)as we are paying for everything ourselves. I was thinking of buying some tulle for the chairs and ribbon, but I wanted to know if anyone would have any idea what that would cost per chair? My colors are fuschia, yellow and orange. Thanks!
- This may sound weird..but it works! My friend had the same concern/issue for her reception, so here was what we did... Pillowcases! We went to a few of our local discount/closeout stores that sell bed linens. We bought out all of the white pillow cases they had and even found a few that were in the blue color that she was using for her wedding colors. They came 2 in each pack for only 1.00 to 1.50 per pack (depending on which store we got them from) so we really only pd about .75 or so per chair. here's how to do it.... 1-Slip the case over the back of the chair and pull down just until you reach the seat and the entire back is covered. 2-Standing behind the chair, fold the excess at the top towards you in a way that results in a cuff that is about 3 to 4 wide, 3-fold that down towards you over the back of the chair and pin it to secure. 4-Then use your tuelle and tie a bow to camoflouge the fold. We used wide satin ribbon and created more of a banded look (like a ribbon sash on a wedding gown). We tied it into a knot- without the bow-and left the long streamer-trails. We had also arranged it so that all of the 'knots w/trailing ribbons were more towards the right sides of the chairs, rather than directly in the center. It was very striking and we got a LOT of compliments on it! If you DO use cases in both white and your wedding color, use your wedding color ribbon/netting to tie on the white chairs and then use white ribbon/netting to tie on the color chairs. Hope this helps a little! CONGRATS ON YOUR WEDDING!
- Q: I have to make a cad drawing of chair , but first I have to measure the chair and put the dimension in the drawing , but there are lot of curved shapes on the chair and lot of angle , but I couldn't figure out how to measure those curves and angles.Should I lie the chair down and sketch it on the surface and measure it from the surface. Thanks
- When I first saw this question, I was going to make a snappy answer such as - randomly draw lines all over the place and then erase all the ones that don't look like a chair. But, after reading the question, it's a good one. Measuring curves can be very tricky. I usually draw a straight line parallel to the curves on the actual object and mark the line at several preset, equally spaced points. I then make several measurements at these set intervals on the line to the actual curves - the more measurements, the more accurate the drawing. I then use this information to duplicate the curve from a straight line in the drawing. There may be other methods, too, but I find that this one works best for me. Good luck.
- Q: I mean there are thousands of beautiful and esthetically pleasing chair designs, so why is this one considered so iconic? And the knoll's price of $4000+ for a chair?? RIDICULOUS!
- You have to look at the chair in its original context. Look at other furniture from 1929 and you won't see anything else like the Barcelona chair. Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich were pioneers for designing this chair from heir choice of materials, minimal lines, construction (stainless steel had just been developed). When properly built to original specs, it takes a lot of high quality materials and skilled labor to produce -- around 28 hours of labor is involved. $3900 is not much for 28 hours of labor considering all the sales people, craftsmen, managers, suppliers, delivery people, laborers needed to build and move one chair. Plus all those people require work buildings, offices, insurance, cars/trucks, phones... etc. $3900 only gets you the cheaper model, there is one made of higher grade materials at $6,000. When the chair was originally designed, it did not sell for that dollar amount, the price has been adjusted for inflation, but it still was not cheap back then, it is and will always be an exclusive item. Surely, the chair can be mass-produced by machine now and sold for cheap at Target, but then it wouldn't be an exclusive item anymore. BMW and Lexus could cheapen their products for everyone to have, but then, why bother? There are Corollas and Ford Focus for the ones who don't want to/can't spend the money. By the way, it's not a simple chair at all, it's very complex, it just looks simple because in the past 7 decades, other chair designers were inspired by that iconic design. It;s iconic because it was ground-breaking, an original thought at the time. To say it is simple is to say paper is simple... yes it sort of is, but it took humans millions of years to get around to inventing it.
- Q: why on earth would I feel better in the morning sleeping in that old chair than in bed? thats just crazy
- sleeping in a semi-upright position helps lots of people with back pain, poor circulation, heartburn, acid reflux, heart disease, congestion, sinus issues....I could go on and on.
- Q: I recently got a job as a wheel chair assistant at the airport, and I am so excited! I begin training monday, but I wanted to know if there were any people experienced in it, that can tell me, how easy or hard it might be for me to catch on, and any tips on how to make my job better! Thanks
- As my parents grew older, I helped both of them with wheel chairs. Working at the airport is a good choice, as you are out of a hospital setting and airports have great facilities for those in wheel chairs. Listen well to your supervisor and don't be shy about asking questions, even about the most tiny of things. For example: I was never told the little tricks like parking and locking the wheelchair when helping people in and out, as my supervisor had been doing it for so long, he just assumed that I already knew about those things. Ask about assistance if you have to lift a heavy person out of the chair. How do you ask for assistance from another employee? Actually walk the routes at the airport, even if you are alone. Some turns and ramps may be more difficult to use, or a corner causes the turn to be a tight squeeze for the wheelchair. As you help someone into or out of a wheel chair, make sure that their feet and legs are not blocked. Ask about the policy for holding or carrying a passenger's coat, bag or purse. Passengers dislike bumps and corners that are narrow and cause you to perhaps bump into them. And, often they will get a bit disruptive. Learn like a pro and act like a pro. Airports, for many, are already a bit hassle. Just think if you were restricted to a wheelchair, too. You would be tired, cranky and feel helpless as others just walk by you. Know how to help them in they need to visit the restroom. Finally, you need to be prepared as well. Make sure that you are using your arms, back and legs properly. One last tip, have you ever been in a wheelchair? If not, ask someone to push you around, especially with corners and such. This will help you to know exactly how it feels and you will learn a lot from the experience. I used to work for a hospital and take care of my parents. If your teacher is good, and if you know the territory and how to work the gear, you'll do great. It will be a fun job and you will truly enjoy helping people in need.
- Q: In my dream, my dad-- whom I have not made contact with in almost ten years-- received the electric chair. Apparently, it was because of a worldwide scam he did, or something like that. As he was about to be executed, a red number 5 was burned on his skin from black ink (I know, I don't get it either). What do you think any of this could possibly mean?
- Dreams don't necessarily mean anything, they are merely a random recombination of past events and emotions, which you relive in your sleep because it seemingly was important or remarkable to you.
- Q: What constitutes a stool and what constitutes a chair? Some say all stools are round, which is false. Some say only chairs have backs, which is also false. There are tall stools and short stools, as well as tall and short chairs, so height makes no differences. Both stools and chairs are made of the same materials. At what point does a stool become a chair and vice-versa? Please help.
- A type of chair without back and arm rests, a bar stool, or a footstool. A chair is a raised surface used to sit on, commonly for use by one person. Chairs often have the seat raised above floor level, supported by four legs. A chair without a back or arm rests is a stool, or when raised up, a bar stool. A chair with arms is an armchair and with folding action and inclining footrest, a recliner. A permanently fixed chair in a train or theater is a seat or airline seat; when riding, it is a saddle and bicycle saddle, and for an automobile, a car seat or infant car seat. With wheels it is a wheelchair and when hung from above, a swing. BTW... this is NOT an ETIQUETTE question. Have a polite day.
- Q: I'm going to Ober Gatlinburg in a week with my church group. I am really afraid of heights. We are going to ski ( which I have never done before.), ice skating ( never done that either), and other things. We have to go on the chair lift and I am so scared. What is it like? Is any of this hard? Any tips? Help!
- ha no. it's really not bad. there's like hardly any way you can fall off unless you deliberately force yourself to. it's like being in a convertible car cept you're in the air. don't worry bout it ;]
- Q: I'm trying to find reviews or opinions on the Brio high chair
- no i've been looking for a highchair myself. sorry
- Q: I have a really big budget to buy a great office chair. I need something I can sit in for long periods of time without pain but also looks modern to fit with my office. I have been looking at the Steelcase leap and think, Humanscale Liberty, Knoll life, and Eurotech Ergohuman. Any ideas?
- they're called 'govt' whilst they're made out of stronger or severe tech supplies and are super adjustable for optimal convenience. only google the term and you will see what I recommend.
