Q:Do people still do this? As a teacher, sometimes the little 2nd graders can be loud and disruptive and can't quiet down. Do you like the quiet chair method? If not, what method do you use. As an example, this morning as I was teaching a lesson, a girl was constantly whispering to her friend so I simply said Mia, will you please go sit in the quiet chair? Not saying it doesn't work, but should I update my method?
Time outs are used frequently and are probably the easiest way to solve the problem. I agree with Lily that the first step might be to separate students who can't leave each other alone, but if that fails the quiet chair is a good option. The child can still observe the lesson but can't really bother anyone else. I think the VERY first step should be a seating chart. You should know by now which pairs or small groups don't work well, and make sure that they don't get the chance to act out. Sitting with friends is a privilege that has to be earned in my classes.
Q:These chairs are supposedly good for the back. Does anyone have one and what do you think about it?
You could buy a GOOD Lane or LaZBoy and spend 1/3 the money.... They are stylish /minimalist but they are sure Hiding the cushioning.... Do you think your butt could handle HOURS of that chair? And do you think your butt CARES how stylish it is? They may say it's good for the back, but anyone can say that...and without PROOF I would NOT believe anything they or anybody else says.... Show me a Zero Chair Showroom where I can go and SIT on a Zero Chair....then let me sit for an hour while I read the Sunday paper....And get me a cup of coffee while I sit here reading my Sunday paper... And stop trying to Sell me on the chair while I'm reading ! My Back and Butt NEED silence to think ! That's the best way to know for sure...and get that salesman to give you some space to think....
Q:Ok, I cant offer much help but I have wanted one of these chairs for a while but I don't know what it's called. Here is the only picture I could find without the name.
It's hard to tell in the picture, but it appears to be a pair of high-backed wing chairs. The style of the back with the puckers and buttons is called tufted. This style of a low-backed sofa is called a chesterfield. You can look up images online to see examples. The arm is rolled, and the trim is called nail head trim. And of course, the material is leather. These chairs look like the type that would be found in a fancy home library or in an elite country club setting or maybe even an exclusive pub. I don't think a similar chair would be hard to find. But if the back is as high as it appears to be, that may be a hard part to come up with.
Q:I plan on keeping this chair in a corner and pulling it out whenever I want to use it, so both of those solutions would make that hard to do. Is there any other way I could stop it from falling?
basically the footing is small, not lending the chair to balance on its own. so increase its footing by attaching each leg to a longer board having the same width as each leg. - think snow skis. you can paint paint the wood to match or accent the chair frame. if you know of a good welder, they could do something similar with the base, but would probably appear seamless.
Q:The chair is very sticky and smells very bad. I wish to clean it, but I cant just vacuum or wipe it down to get rid of the smell. Any ideas?
The same way you clean any fiber product. Liquid cleaning chemicals, agitation, removal of soil, removal of cleaning chemicals, dry time... Laundry detergent works great on most fiber products. Dissolve a little in water to create a cleaner that just won't allow you to snap your fingers. Scrub it into the fiber using a scrubber that is less-tough than the fiber itself. You want a scrubber that will move the fibers without damaging them. Then, using a small wet vac, suck up the loosened soil and moisture. Follow that with a scrubbing of a mixture of 1/8 cup of plain white vinegar mixed in 1 quart of water, to break down the cleaner for removal. If you dip your hand in the cleaner mix, then dip your hand in this mix, you should be able to snap your fingers again, if not, add a little more vinegar, you wasted detergent in your cleaning mix. Repeat this one more time with plain water Suck that up with the vac and let it dry completely. After it drys completely, you can repeat the procedure until it's as clean as you like. Note: Never soak a fiber that has a backing. Most backings usually break down to some degree when wetted, and take along time to dry. A scrubber can be anything from a towel to a brush. If it has abrasive qualities that will not harm the material, it can be used, including your fingernails. And... don't be fooled by the dry cleaners... water is necessary to flush out soils... it's the #1 solvent on earth, and chemicals simply make water wetter... Last note... this works for carpet spills also, all my old Clients have 1 gallon wet vacs under their kitchen sinks.
Q:If i was sitting in a chair on wheels and someone else was tied to a tree and we both pulled with enough force to move at 5m/s would I roll in my chair or would I stay stationary because we are using the same amount of force? thanks
No. your your chair would ROLL Because you applied a force on the rope backward pushing chair with the same amount of force in forward direction and there is no other force except friction to stop the chair which is not enough hence you would go forward. force applied on the rope only cancels out. you can assume you(on a wheel chair) pulls a rope fixed to tree at other end. This would also give same result. Hope this would help you.!!!!!!
Q:I have a 6foot foam filled bean bag chair. What are some fun creative things to do with it? :) thank you
Microfiber The Cozy Sack foam chair is the most comfortable place to sit anywhere. They are filled with the softest virgin urethane foam available. The urethane foam will spring back to normal size after every use and not go flat like the traditional bean bag chairs. Machine washable micro suede cover. Includes inner liner with child safety zipper. Filled with our own specially designed foam. Requires a 6' X 4' floor space
Q:I have a wood side chair that I am going to re-paint and re-cover to use with my desk. It is currently painted black and needs a paint job. I know spray painting is easiest to use, should I sand it first even for spray paint?
Yes. You definitly need to sand it first. Especially since your chair is black! It will be hard to cover black up with white, whether the paint is spray or in a can. Sand your chair, and yes spray paint will be fine. With paint, or glossy stains it is hard to get paint to stay on something and not stick easily without sanding. Hope it works out for you!
Q:Found a very old wooden chair from what I think could be the 1900s. Do you know what type of chair this is called?...how would I look it up to know its worth. The bottom of the chair has a GB or CB stamp on it. Would you know how much somthing like this would go for? Thanks :)
Take it to a couple of art dealers and have it appraised.
Q:Can a handicapped person be allowed to take an (International) airplane? He is paralysized in one side of his body and needs to ride a wheel-chair.Would business class seats be recommended? Any requirement on the companion? Any accomondations that can be expected from the airlines, e.g. UA, ANA, American?
yes. They are boarded first and deplaned last using an aisle chair, a wheelchair that fits down the aisle of an aircraft. For best results, try to avoid flight segments not boarded through a jetbridge (where you have to use the aircraft boarding stairs) -- it can be done but it's very awkward. Talk to an airline representative about the equipment you'll need (lead-acid batteries require special handling), and if you'll require oxygen on board. A premium cabin (first or business) would be way, way, way better. The airline will do its best to accomodate your needs.
