- Q: I got a flat woven rug and it keeps getting caught in my door. It drives me nuts. I just want to cut an arc out of it for my door. Is there a way to go about that?
- Probably hard to do if you're talking about an area rug. Scissors don't usually cut through rugs very well, even very good scissors. A utility knife doesn't do it very well either. And whatever you cut it with, the cut edges are going to fray. Better to move that rug back a bit and get something flatter for just inside the door.
- Q: I'm thinking of buying a shag rug similar to this type. I have 2 boys and a dog...so it will need to be steam cleaned every now and then. I'm wondering if those are cleanable with professional steam cleaners, or if the sucking action will tear up the rug. Figured it would be good to find out before I buy one! Thanks!
- yes it will take longer due to haven to move slower to allow a good cleaning an if hiring out don't be shocked if they charge you more then normal due to extra effort
- Q: I got a rug burn on my toe Monday and not quite sure how to treat it. When I looked up how to treat rug burns, every site said that they were like 1st degree burns or a sunburn and should be pretty much treated the same way. However mine is open and for the first few days, was leaking pus and a clear liquid. It hasn't healed up yet and I have been treating it as a cut. It fizzes when peroxide is applied but today didn't do it as much (and hurts much less). Am I doing the right thing? Also is there a cool trick to get a band aid to stay on my toe? The burn is at the joint that is the foot equivalent of a knuckle.
- If it is getting better than you are doing the right thing. The trick to the band aid, would be to get a longer one, so that it will go all the way around your toe and stick to itself. Measure it before you take those tabs off to make sure it is long enuff.
- Q: I've heard it can be done, but I sure don't want to make a quot;not too badquot; carpet any worse! I'm wanting to make a light carpet darker. Any suggestions?
- I suggest investing in getting a professional to come out and dye your carpet. Try using yahoo's directory to find a carpet business in your area that won't take your money.
- Q: I have carpet at one end of my house and tile on the other end. i want to install new carpet but still keep the tile. how do i install the carpet with tile at the end of it???
- if the carpet is lower than the tile you can use the tile as a border, but if they're level. put a thin strip of wood as a saddle
- Q: appropriately enuff my mom gave me an area rug and she smokes, so does everyone else around her, we don't smoke at my house...febreeze only makes a quot;freshquot; smokey sicko nasty smell.
- There is a product called Pure Ayre that truly removes odors and does not just add another scent like febreeze. This I would do if the area rug is too large to fit into the washing machine. I have heard bounce might also work. You could roll up your rug and put it into some large garbage bags and drop in a few bounce sheets if the other 2 don't work.
- Q: Can anyone tell me if it is tacky to use a large carpet remnant as an area rug rather than buying a regular rug? I'm on a pretty tight budget, and I need a LARGE (10x10 ish) rug for our living room. Regular rugs that large are several hundred dollars. What do you think? Any other suggestions?
- Not tacky! I was wondering about the edges though... Will they look worn out after some time? I guess it depends on the quality of the carpet. Have you considered buying a used rug? Check out second-hand shops, Salvation Army shops, garage sales ect - plus ads in the local newspaper. Or you could place an ad yourself?
- Q: I have a large area rug on top of a wall to wall carpet. It has furniture on it but it still keeps wrinkling up. Why? How can I stop this?

- Q: Okay, so that's 2 questions in one. Don't hold it against me. Instead, please suggest a cleaner (or a home-made recipe/solution) for cleaning and shining stainless steel small appliances (coffee maker, panini maker, barmen's toolset, and some others) and for how to get set-in stains out of a small oriental rug. Don't know the composition of the stains; they've been there for awhile. They are on a white-ish background. Thanks!
- No idea about the rug, but a company called simple human makes a cloth that you can use with just water to shine up/clean all your stainless steel appliances. There aren't any chemicals involved! You can also use a small bit of olive oil to a cloth and use that to clean and shine them, then wipe with a clean dry cloth. Weird, but it works. I have a small steam cleaner for my rugs that works pretty well. I'd try one of the oxy type cleaners.
