- Q:Water pumps are always pumping water, what's the matter?
- Cause analysis of water pump without waterThere is air in the inlet pipe and pump body(1) before the water pump is started, the water is not filled enough. Sometimes it seems that the water has been discharged from the vent hole, but the pump shaft is not rotated. The air is completely discharged, resulting in a small amount of air remaining in the inlet pipe or pump body.(2) in contact with the water pump inlet of the horizontal application of reverse flow direction, fell more than 0.5% slope, connect one end of the highest import pumps, do not completely level. If the upward tilt, the intake pipe will retain air, reducing the water pipes and pumps in the vacuum, water absorption.(3) pump packing has been used for long-term wear or packing pressed too loose, discharge gap caused by the large amounts of water from filling with the shaft sleeve, the external air gap into the pump from the inside, affected the water.(4) because of the long latent water and the corrosion of the pipe wall, the water inlet of the water inlet is constantly dropping. When the holes appear above the water, the air enters the water inlet pipe from the hole.(5) there is a crack at the bend of the inlet pipe, and there is a small gap between the inlet pipe and the water pump, which may cause the air to enter the inlet pipe.
- Q:Ok, so I was driving the other day when I heard this quot;clunksound...my AC went out (stopped blowing cold), and power steering went out. I pulled over and one of the wheels where the serpentine belt goes on was off and obviously the belt was off too. I got it towed to a shop where they showed me I needed a new belt - it was ripped, and told me I need a new water pump...all together a 400 dollar job after labor and parts. I was hoping I would just need a new belt and they could bolt back on the wheel...From a chic standpoint, this seemed logical. I know nothing about cars and I'm always very skeptical when I take my car anywhere to get it worked on bc I could be told anything and wouldn't know the difference...Has anyone had a similar experience or does this sound like the problem? I have a 07 honda civic...around 80,000 miles.
- Price about right around $200.00 for all parts including new coolant.Plus labor. But a suggestion Honda had a recall on bad water pump pulleys in 06 maybe yours is covered under recall. Get vin number and call them, may get done for free, wouldn't hurt to ask. They'll need vin number and production date. If not a free job get estimate on repair from them to see if close to other one. Mileage doesn't matter if on recall list.
- Q:Hello, I have a 1996 Cavalier and it's got a small coolant leak by the water pump so I figured I'd replace it. I called around a little bit and one quote was $250. I'm sord of handy and have a few hours on Saturday is it that hard? I heard it's just a few bolts? Thanks!!
- The water pump on that vehicle is a ob-centric style that you rotate to create belt tension. This is a bit tricky and some people have broken the pump trying to tighten the belt so be careful. Look at the replacement pump carefully before you attempt to change it, this will give you clues as to how it works.
- Q:How long should it take a mechanic to replace a water pump on a 96 dodge intrepid ES with a 3.5L engine? I was given a estimate of 6 hours does it really take that long? at 100.00 a hour I'm not sure my car is worth fixing
- I work on all different types of cars but just hearing you mention this one makes me be able to recall what a nightmare these cars really are. The water pump on these cars are driven by the timing chain, yes timing chain. Whats really different about this car is when the water pump goes out, it leaks water but since the pump is under the front cover it can't leak water into the oil pan so they put in what they call a weep hole. When the pump starts to leak you will get dripping water out of the left side of the block which is different but normal in this case. The fact that the timing chain drives this pump says this repair is going to take alot of time I believe standard book time on this job is around 6 hours.
- Q:i'm trying to make a small water fountain, i have a tiny motor that i can use, but i dont know how to use it to make the water go up :( haha heeeelpthanks in advance:)
- I doubt that your motor is waterproof. You would do better to just purchase one of the many fountain pumps all ready available at many home improvement centers or online. They are water proof and have the pump and motor all in one enclosure.
- Q:A water pump that consume 2kW of electric power when operating is claimedto take in water from a lake and pump it to a pool whose free surface is 30 m above the free surface of the lake at a rate of 50 L/s. Determine if this claim is reasonable. You have to show the minimum power required is 14.7 kWand i can't get it.
- A liter of water mas a mass of 1Kg. How much work must be done to raise 50 Kg of water through a height of 30 m? You can say: Work done (W) = potential energy gained (mgh), Or you can say that Work done is the weight force (mg) * the distance moved against the force (h) Either way, W = m * g * h where m is the mass; g is the acceleration due to gravity {9.8 m/s?}; h is the height W = 50 * 9.8 * 30 = 14700 J If you need to do that amount of work in one second, that's a rate of working of 14700 J/s A joule/second is a watt. Minimum power required = 14700 W = 14.7 kW
- Q:I have a 2000 chevy impala with 85K on it. I have heard/a weird rattle noise from under the hood for some time now. I once asked about it on here and got suggestions regarding front end problems. I had that checked out and the front end is good. I still have the rattle noise along with a high pitched, but not very loud, squeeling noise when I accelerate. I am leaking coolant and it seems to be coming from near one of the belts. Is this a bad water pump? If so how expensive of a fix is it and how involved of a repair is it?
- It sounds like a water pump or maybe a loose connection. It is probably time for a water pump if it hasn't been replaced yet. Parts will run under $60 and it probably involves an hour of labor. The Impala is a big car, it shouldn't be hard to get to and remove. Taking it to a shop will run under $100-$150 for everything.
- Q:Car started making noises right after hitting deer, week later car that has never had a problem began to overheat and mechanic says water pump went out and that it has nothing to do with hitting the deer.
- water pumps sometimes just go. just like most other auto parts the water pump will give little or no notice. get it to a garage quick!!! call around in your local area for the best estimate and go with them. replacement can be somewhat costly depending on your car. don't forget to replace the timing chain at the same time. if your car is close to the 80,000 mile mark the timing chain could go soon. to get to the water pump you remove most of the parts in the front end so you might as well replace the timing chain while you already payed to go that far. timing chains go for around$60-$80. i replaced my own in a truck a few years ago ,so take my advice and do both if you plan on keeping your car. i'm from n.h., we have alot of deer related accidents. i hope he was tasty!!!
- Q:How does a pump get water from a low low elevation to a higher elevation.
