- Q: One month ago, mechanics replaced water pump for my car, 04 dodge stratus, 100000 miles. When I went to get the car, there was big noise coming out from engine. The mechanics told me it was because of sediment in auto oil system and he show me some sediment he took out. I know little about car so I thought he was right. But now the noise changed and engine light came on. I went to firestone to check it. The report said timing jump and cranked. The second day the engine died totally. And I went to another two mechanics. They said the previous one who replaced the water pump did something wrong to timing chain. But that mechanics didn't admit it. What can I do?
- You're on thin ice with this, unless you had the timing belt replaced before 90,000 miles. That big noise was the pistons hitting the valves after the timing belt slipped, or more likely, broke from being worn out. When the engine's water pump is driven by the timing belt, the belt must be slacked to get the pump off, then tightened back up after the new pump installation. That old belt couldn't hold up under the tension. It's just bad luck for the mechanic he didn't think to question the age of the timing belt and insist that it be replaced. Of course that would cost a bit more. It will be an uphill battle. You might as well find a used engine if you want this car back on the road. Good luck to you.
- Q: we are trying to replace a water pump on our ford windstar mini van. my uncle cant figure it out and we can not get a manual until tomorrow. was wondering if anyone knew how. thanks
- water pump are kind of difficult to replace you have to remove several parts to get to it. specially if is your uncle first time. my recommendation is if you want to do it yourself to save money, have some one (family member)that did it before, just in case. go to source i will post instructions look at Table of Contents or go all the way on the bottom of the page good luck
- Q: I'm not familiar w/ this model but need to swap out the water pump. I have no pictures or publications. Anything in particular to watch out for? Is this a pushrod engine w/ a water pump mounted in the front center of the engine and driven by a serpentine belt? Thanks in advance.
- It's very easy to change. It's driven by a serpantine belt but it's off center Right up front closer to the radiator and on top. Break the 13mm pulley bolt's loose, remove the belt, remove loosened pulley bolts and pulley. Then there's like 6, 8mm bolts to remove the pump and that's it. You might have to remove the overflow tank to make it easier to get to. The pump is round and looks like it will go on any 'ol way but it doesn't. It only goes on one way.
- Q: i have a 97 mercury mountaineer and i recently got the thermostat changed in it. after doing so we noticed that the car was leaking antifreeze. we checked to make sure everything was tight and there was no cracks and my uncle said he thinks its the water pump how can i tell
- Water pumps usually leak when they wear out. There is a weep hole on the bottom of it - you will see antifreeze coming out there. Another clue is overheating if the pump is not moving water.
- Q: When I buy submersible pump, the other party did not inform is the aluminum submersible pump, water pump factory production of aluminum submersible pump illegal? Is it against the law to sell the pump to the pump without informing me?
- No, the state does not have special laws to prohibit the use of aluminium wireIn fact, the aluminum core wire or mechanical or good, low prices, especially in the dry environment of small and medium-sized mechanical and electrical, with good performance. Only in the submersible pump, because aluminum is easier than copper wire, moisture infiltration, bacteria and other corruption, and its survival time is sometimes less than copper wire. But the pump inlet, aluminum often requires rewinding coil, because of a small submersible pump well around Electromechanical General scrap. Therefore, the quality of submersible pumps will not generally use aluminum, but the production of aluminum submersible pump is not illegal, but in the sale should be based on the principle of honest business detailed notification.
- Q: For the past couple days my car has been over heating quickly and there ha been some leaking underneath my car. well I went to start my car today to run to the store and the heating gauge was going up and down from overheating to perfectly fine within seconds...I popped the hood and there was antifreeze spraying on the engine. So my friend that I called said that meant there was a leak in my water pump. The autoshop in town is busy with over cars all day, I already called, and there isn't another shop within 15 miles. I work in 3 hours, and the drive is 30 minutes away. I have no other way to get to work, is it safe to drive my car or should I call in and let my manager know I can't make it? I have been working there almost 2 months and have never been late or called in.
- for someone that has spare hose laying around, it could have been repaired in less than 15 minutes with a piece of hose with an inside diameter the same size as the outside diameter of the original pump hose. 2 hose clamps and your good to go. fill her up and drive to work then get a new hose and replace it yourself or get it to a shop. This answer is more for anyone visiting this question now rather than the original poster.
- Q: I switched on the pump and smoke came out of it, i opened the pump n found it hadsome water probably caused the shock. How to repair it or is it dead?? ** its not a wellpump just a normal one that pump the water to the tank from a small reserve
- All electrical things work on smoke - once the smoke escapes then they don't work. Seriously if water got into the works it’s probably burned out and needs to be replaced - having the motors rebuilt on these things usually costs more than a new one. More details click the following link…
- Q: Water pump located on the ground floor of our 10 story building is leaking and therefore it is constantly running and spilling water into the parking lot. Therefore, a plumber shut the water pump off and opened a bypass valve. After we shut off water pump all units still have good water pressure so why do we need to replace water pump? When water pump is on the incoming city water gauge reads 60psi and the gauge measuring the water shooting up into the building reads 80psi. Now both gauges read zero. How can water coming from the city at 60psi travel all the way to the 10th floor without a boost? I do not understand what is happening.
- It will be less pressure on 10th floor for sure. If everyone is showering or using water on 2 and 3, 10 wont have any pressure. Its probably time to replace gauges and fix the pump. May just need a seal and impeller adjustment. It also sounds like you need or need to replace the pressure switch that is supposed to only turn pump on when demand is high. Check it out. Run ad on craigslist for a pump man to check it out. If you need to replace pump go with an ANSI pump. All parts are interchangeable.
- Q: we changed the water pump it went bad and there is still a knock in it please help it is running really sluggish
- Have your radiator checked, replace the radiator cap and thermostate, look at all your hoses and you should be just fine,, 2002M7
- Q: I have a Chevy Express Van 3500, i believe that the water pump is leaking, how long would it last before major breakage?
- Fix the pump. One of the easier do-it-yourself jobs. I'm a girl and I can do it.
