t’s a very common question I get asked all the time in the gym, via email and on the forums. “Can you give me some tips for increasing my bench press?” You see the bench press is often used to measure a guy’s strength. The heavier your bench, the stronger you are right? Wrong. Now anyone who’s knows anything about lifting weights and body strength knows that that this is absolutely not true. However, as far as upper body exercises are concerned it’s probably the best exercise to measure upper body strength. So I’m going to give you my top 10 tips for increasing your bench press. I have hit bench press plateaus before, and I can tell you from personal experience that not being able to up your bench press for a matter of months is extremely frustrating. But using these tips below has always got me through the plateau to add those extra pounds.

I watched a show awile back on tv that featured the top 10 inventions of all time and the number 1 was the printing press. It helped mass production and served as the number 2 means of information. It was almost like the internet of the 1700s. However, the show failed to mention the invention of casting metal. Without the ability of shaping metal, you could not have a metal printing press.

The muscles used in the bench press are the following: -Pectoralis Major, but mainly the sternal (lower) head. -Triceps -Anterior Deltoids (the front segment) Other muscles that are involved but not really trained in this exercise are: -The wrist flexors/extensors (forearms) -Biceps (for stabilization) The effects of different grips - a closer grip will shift the stress onto the triceps more. A wider grip will shift the stress onto the chest more. An incline bench press will put most of the work on your clavicular (upper) pecs and anterior deltoids.
Q: Does the quality of a French Press matter a lot? Would buying a 50$ press from Williams-Sonoma be much better than the 15$ one from Canadian Tire?
Maybe in how long it lasts but not in how good the coffee is. Personally, I recommend buying glass (not plastic) but you can get a fairly cheap one that works fine.

Or they aren't blending it properly Pressed powder foundation can be used, but whether or not it looks good depends hugely on the four conditions I listed. To find a foundation that won't show up, it has to match your skin perfectly. The best textures for this are spray foundation and Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse (I use it and I love it). No matter what texture foundation you have, blending it in and using the proper amount is key. I see far too many people with orange cakey lines around their faces!

This is a question that only you can answer. Only you know your capabilities, and if anybody demands more than you are capable of, you need to tell them to go fly a kite. Clint Eastwood put it succinclty: A good man always knows his limitations. This doesn't mean that you should sell yourself short either. You should constantly strive to overcome your own limitiations, but there is a limit to everything, including how much your maximum bench press should be. Just try to improve your maximum bench press weight gradually, adding a few pounds from time to time. You don't mention what position you are playing for the football team, but that is important. If you are an interior lineman, you should be stronger than a wide receiver or a defensive back. The latter positions stress running speed and agility more than strength. Set realistic goals for yourself and try to reach them. Your next goal should be 150 pounds with the same number of repetitions. Keep adjusting your weight lifting goals upward, but keep in mind that you need to stretch those muscles too, or you will be prone to muscle strains, the most common sports injuries. Work your upper body on alternating days, and the lower body in between. I wish you a great football season, both individually and collectively.
Q: if i start working my forearms and they get stronger, will this help improve my bench press?
improve the bench press? wouldn't hurt./ also, if you're not already doing it ,squeeze the bar very tightly and you'll notice that all the contracting muscles will amp up also. And visualize that you are pushing yourself away from the bar instead of pushing the bar away. concentrating on tension in the body is more important that concentration on the weight lifted. /good technique is strength.go to some powerlifting website for advice. good luck
Q: i was lifting about 160 pounds in decline bench press which is ok for me when i heard a crack in my right shoulder my hand is properly working and i'm able to do biceps exercise but now i'm not even able to press even 40 pounds in bench press whenever i try to lift the rod my right shoulder starts paining terribly and i can't even do one rep.please help me it's been four days now but the problem is still the same.
