- Q: Im changing my water pump and it has a pully that the belt gos on in front of it and the pully has 1 big bolt in the middle of it and like 4 small ones around it and when i try to undo the bolts the pully turns and im not quite the mechanic but i do know that the pully has to come off 1st so how do i take out the bolts without the pully turning???? and yes the belt is off and battery id disconnected and the car is not hot it hasnt ran in days. and it has a 3.4 v6
- Leaving the belt on with tension to hold the pulley while you break loose the 4 bolts is the easiest way... you will have to come up with a way to hold it still while loosening the bolts... one way is to take a good sized flat tip screwdriver and while you are holding it wedged between the shaft and one of the bolts while breaking the other bolts loose..
- Q: Water pump is STILL constantly running! Since this past thursday, we did:new check valvenew pressure controlnew foot valve (well)well is not dryprime, air pressure are finewe have above ground pump in the basement. we called a plumber and he could do nothing! we have water and pump/tank and everything seem working fine. But the pump is on and off every 30 seconds - 1 minute. It is so annoying and out of ideas what could be wrong. My husband think it could be the tank and suggested that we replace it. But the plumber didn't say anything about the tank. And it is not too old.Do you think it is the tank and we need to replace it? If so, we will do it on this Sunday morning even though it might cost extra charge! please help!!!
- you have what is called a water logged tank!! that means you are not putting enough air into it to act as a pressure source for the water,, this makes the prsessure switch kick on and off constantly,, if you have a bladder in your tank you have to add air thru a bicycle like valve usually on top of the tank,, if no bladder then you have to drain all the water from the tank and then screw everything tight before you turn it on to refill with water!! the air in the tank will compress then!! or or pressure switch was not bled right!!!!
- Q: can you give me some information?
- Little Giant makes a good, reliable, reasonably priced water pump. You can get them at Grainger, MSC and I'm sure many other places.
- Q: I have taken off the fan, and radiator, and ect, and i'm down to this silver circle thing-the fan clutch i believe and black circualr piece that connects to the actual water pump. I need help getting the quot;fan clutchoff. I tried using a wrench and wrenching on this peice between that and the black piece, but i cant stop the black piece from moving. I tried this site called pelican or w.e, but they dont tell u how to do that. I'm stuck, plz help!
- Usually there is a notch, slot, or hole in the housing into which you can insert a screw driver or punch to prevent it from turning and then you can use the wrench on the bolts.
- Q: my marine engine doesnt pump water can you tell me some faults can be thanks vic
- Depends on what engine and what pump check the impeller to see if it is bad.
- Q: how often do i need to change a timing belt and water pump on my car? also, how much should it cost? should i have it done at the dealers or at a small mechanic shop if i chose to? which would be best? what are steps when having timing belt change?
- Not knowing the car and the market you live in... $3-500 is a good guess... Call the dealer and price them, sometimes they are so experienced doing a job they will quote less then an independent repair shop... Usually not though. As your friends for a referral. Bob
- Q: me and my friends are contemplating going on a road trip.almost 20 hours of driving.but we dont have a water pump, can you drive without one?
- Not unless you intend to spent about 4 days walking the 19 1/2 hours that will be left of your trip after the engine seizes up.
- Q: I have 2000 ford ranger v6 3.0 I replaced the water pump ten months ago and all of a sudden it's running hot it only runs hot when I stop for a second at a red light or stop sign. I changed the radiator today but still is running hot. The top radiato hose going to the thermostat housing is building a lot of pressure and the water is bubbling in the reservoir what could be wrong? And I took the thermostat out last week
- You waited too long, over heated the engine, and now have leaking head gaskets. If water is boiling in reservoir, that is DEFINITELY the problem. Take heart, though. Many times, all you need do is replace the head bolts and re-torque them to specifications. This will usualy un-warp the heads and restore good gasket seals on the Ford 3.0 engine. Compression is forcing air into the coolant. It's that simple. Untill your head get resealed, you will contiue to have boiling and overheating. GOOD LUCK!!
- Q: im buying a mazda 626 for 800 abd the owner selling just let me know that the water pump is going out. is it a fairly easy fix or should i keep shopping for a vehicle?
- Keep shopping. Do you really think the seller is honest about the water pump? Sounds like he is trying to unload a car with a bad head gasket.
- Q: Yesterday my car was making squeaky noises in the front and then the fan came on FULL FORCE it sounded lik an airplane. It then started to over heat. I looked to see if there was any antifreeze/coolant in it and it was BONE DRY. I found out the water pump is bad. My boyfriend wants to change it himself but he doesn't know if where it is located is so complex he should take it to a mechanic. He has changed water pumps before. If you know anything about this.. your advice is very much appreciated!!
- Water pumps arent too bad to change. Just follow the hoses to the pump, should be connected to the sepentine belt. Your diagnosis seems to be correct,
